When will 0bama get back in the seat and actually do something instead of just talking about it? must somehow?
be GWs fault! He is in way over his head we know, but surely a community organizer has some talent and competence
Nay! me thonk bout it, you even more ignorant
Answer: Obama wants a second term.
So his main concern in forming policy is to avoid any mistakes that could blow up in his face prior to November 2012.
He super loaded his White House with high powered talent, and yet he is extremely cautious in making any decisive and irreversible policy decisions.
Everything else is sacrified to his caution.
That's why only 45% of the Stimulus Bill money has been spent, and this is a year after the bill was enacted and Obama had the money to spend.
He wants to use that money in the final 90 days before the election for the new Congress in November of 2010. He will, announce the grants, and then make stump appearances with liberal democratic candidates and give them credit for the money coming to their districts.
He needs to avoid a Congress-wide GOP sweep in 2010. If that happens everything that he's done gets de-funded, repealed, and goes down the drain.
Right now it's very likely that there will be a GOP sweep of the Congress being elected in 2010, and the reason is 85 million furious Medicare beneficiaries who are appauled that Obama is seeking to Feloniously Larcenize $400 Billion out of the Medicare Trust Fund and Embezzle those funds so they can be used for purposes other than providing medical care for Medicare beneficiaries. That Criminal conversion is a violation of the RICO statutes. By all rights the whole Congress presently seated should be indicted for participating in or failing to prevent a Massive Larcenous Plot against people who have paid their FICA taxes for the past 25 years and are now on the verge of coming into their Medicare entitlement.
These 85 million people do vote -- in the rain, in the snow, with their walkers, in their wheelchairs -- they find a way -- they do vote.
100% of all American politicians in the past have decided it's best not to touch the Third Rail of American Politics = Social Security/Medicare.
But Obama is a dedicated Marxist. His whole street cred is based on raiding the assets of anybody that has assets and dividing that money up among his ACORN street rabble cohorts.
If he thought he could knock over banks, he would do it.
He's in the tradition of Emma Goldberg, Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Bill Ayers, and Saul Alinsky.
But with no support in Washington -- no House no Senate -- no Pelosi -- no Reid he becomes President Lamebama, President Vetobama. He's basically downsized to President Halfbama. He gets to decide about the White House menu, and pick out the drapes.
We will call this the Right-Sizing of Executive power after USA elected a Radical Marxist Activist to the Oval Office.
Democracy is a flexible system. Adjustments are made. There's one coming -- Nov 2010 -- mark your calendars.

Why are GOP politicians so much afraid of a potential female Democrat president?
US is one of the countries touting democracy and equal opportunity, but when it comes to elect a female to be a Chief Commander, even the Christian leaders do not fail to trump up tales and badmouth about her and things in her bedroom, let alone the males counterpart? Are they afraid that she might discover their incompetencies all along?
Answer: They are afraid, but it's the only strategy they have right now. The Bush administration has been such a dismal failure for the last six years that the neo-cons don't have the political legs to attack anyone else's political record.
So instead they go after Hillary as a woman, Obama's middle name, and Edwards haircut.

How is being happy about Gonzales resignation an indication that one hates the US?
Another poster here asked why the liberals and conservatives differed so drastically regarding Alberto Gonzales resignation. One answerer responded by merely saying that conservatives loved America and liberals hated it. How is being happy about Alberto Gonzales resignation an indication that one hates America?
Answer: Narrow minded people see the world in black and white, right or wrong, my way or the highway. That responder is likely one with that kind of viewpoint. They should be glad that Gonzalez is resigning because it may put to rest any of the hearings and so on that those same sort of people were whining about. They are the kind that want strict absolute obedience to fearless leader like one would find in a totalitarian state. They don't understand that democracy thrives on dissent and difference of opinion. Some how they seem to take it seriously like they have personally been insulted or have failed because the failure of their gods is exposed. They can't respond rationally or humbly but lash out saying the other side must hate America because they don't agree with them.
It is sad that people who live in the greatest democracy ever to exist would accuse others of such treason just because they excercise the very democracy all are so proud of.
Being happy about the resignation of Gonzo is something that should be shared by all. For different reasons people should rejoyce in his departure. The Democrats can rejoyce because he is gone and can feel some vindication in pressuring him to leave. The Republicans can rejoyce to see him gone because it will allow the spot light to be shined somewhere else and not on the Attorney General's office. His poor decisions were making Republicans look bad. With major elections coming up the GOP can hardly afford any more negative publicity. Get him out and done with should be thier desire and probably is.

If neither Democrats nor the GOP can fix the jobs crisis, whos the best scapegoat we can find to blame?
Often during times of prolonged economic crisis, national leaders -- whether theyre politicians in a republic or a democracy, or tyrants in a dictatorship -- look for somebody else to blame, someone else to serve as the targets for the publics anger.
As the U.S. today continues to suffer from officially defined unemployment of nearly 9 percent, who do you think American politicians are likely to choose as our national scapegoat?
If we dont want to express our fear & our anger towards our own elected leaders, for failing to safeguard us from the more painful aspects of capitalist crisis, who else can we choose as the target for our rage?
1. Muslims?
2. Jews?
3. Religious people in general?
4. Atheists & "secular humanists" in general?
5. Women?
6. Men?
7. Socialists?
8. black people?
9. white people?
10. immigrants?
11. middle-class conservatives?
12. public employees like teachers, firefighters, cops?

Has anyone else noticed the change in McCain since the debate?
I seen part of an interview with him on Fox and he seemed almost wicked, very nasty tone. What is up with him? Or is this the real him and hes been fronting for the campaign?
I think he would be a tyrant in the white house. Maybe hes not getting enough sleep because hes acting like a grumpy old man.
The questions were not tough...it was Fox (republican) News
At least Biden is funny. McCain tried to be funny a few times...but failed.
Answer: Its the real him he sees his grab for power failing like it did in 2000 expect him to get more vicious and rabid. The GOP would have a strangle hold on our country if it wasn't for that whole democracy thing.. Gear up folks and make sure your registered to vote VOTE OBAMA =D

Why wont the GOP just break all ties with Rush and his other hate mongering minions ?
I love the democratic process. I love the debate. However, it is always dangerous when the opposition is extremely weak.
I hate the fact that every utterance of the republicans is now generally received as "you racist bigots !"
More directly, I wish the Republican party would just break ties with idiots like Rush Libowl (spelling ?).
All these idiots do is weaken the Republican argument. They ( Rush and his other weenos) attacked Sotomayor so blatantly, that Republicans in congress are now almost afraid to say anything , no matter how relevant the question may be.
That is not good for a democracy. Yes I supported Obama, but I dont like the idea of the nation having practical ONE AND A HALF political parties !
The answer cannot be for the Republicans to completely change their message. If that happens, then our democracy would have failed, because then both parties would be offering the same thing.
I believe that their is a market for Republicans and their so-called conservative values, and if brought forward in a platatonic matter, can even be persuasive to the voter.
But the longer idiots like Rush , keep on spouting hatred as "unofficial republican representattives" they do nothing but alienate the Republican message.
I am not celebrating that the opposition is so weak.
SUNSHINE: Apparently, a large portion of the GOP agrees with them. You are correct, it has tainted the appearance of everyone in the party. To be fair, when you are a member of a party that supports people like that, what else is the public supposed to think? Ive said for years that the moderate, logical conservatives need to re-take their party. The nutcase extreme right-wingers have taken it over. If the reasonable people have allowed this to happen, how reasonable are they?
YES ! thats what we need !

Dems and GOP have traded platforms since 1870. When and why?
Dems were once for the business, and for repressing peoples rights. Now the GOP is on that side. When did they swap platforms, and for max credit, why? I will select an answer, with a bias to the first really good answer, good being better than first.
Gws35:
Good long rant, not an answer.
I still feel that the Dems and the GOP have substantially swapped platforms in the last 150 years. I want to know when and why. Even if the Dems have supported business, they are generally for the unions, and generally for the little guy. This was not so some many decades ago.
steph w,
you take the question up to the resolution, and leave it there, unanswered.
Maybe I should have asked if the views in the parties have swapped.
Because I now have 4 answers that say that they did not, or that the people answering do not know, or answer its irrelevant.
Could someone give me a straight answer?
I have some serious issues with wiki, but it would seem that the New Deal and such was a turning point. Having answered my own question, I suspect I will withdraw it.
gynter,
I am looking for change, not stasis.

and picked the last of 4 bad answers after downing all.
Answer: Excellent question.
Before there was a republican party and democrat party, it's important to remember that there was a republican-democrat party.
The spirit of Jacksonian Democracy animated the party from the early 1830s to the 1850s, shaping the Second Party System, with the Whig Party the main opposition. After the disappearance of the Federalists by 1820, there was a hiatus of weakly organized personal factions until about 1828-32, when the modern Democratic Party emerged along with its rival the new Whig Party. The new Democratic Party became a coalition of farmers, city-dwelling laborers, and Irish Catholics. It was weakest in New England, but strong everywhere else and won most national elections thanks to strength in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia (by far, the most populous states at the time), and the frontier. Democrats opposed elites and aristocrats, the Bank of the United States, and the whiggish modernizing programs that would build up industry at the expense of the yeoman or independent small farmer.
You had "southern" democrats and "northern" democrats. Views were strongly based on rather you were from the south or from the north. There were so many different views that even those parties were divived into factions and so on and so on. The same with the republican party.\
Which brings us to the civil war. Many "northern" democrats were against slavery. And actually supported Lincoln's policies.
At the 1924 Democratic National Convention, a resolution denouncing the white-supremacist Ku Klux Klan was introduced by forces allied with Al Smith and Oscar W. Underwood in order to embarrass the front-runner, William Gibbs McAdoo. After much debate, the resolution failed by a single vote. The KKK faded away soon after, but the deep split in the party over cultural issues, especially Prohibition, facilitated Republican landslides in 1920, 1924, and 1928. However, Al Smith did build a strong Catholic base in the big cities in 1928, and Franklin D. Roosevelt's election as Governor of New York that year brought a new leader to center stage.
The rest is History. I think that with putting all of the above into consideration. There was a moment in history where the question of Morality came into play. SLAVERY. Was is right or wrong. Many felt it was wrong. And based on those views, rather you were from the north or from the south, 2 Main parties were created. That is when political views began to change.

Lethal drugs collapsed levies&bridges failed forgien policy whats more dangerous terrorists or repubilicans
incompetence? From Vioxx and other lethal drugs, to failure to inspect everything from coal mines to levies to bridges and do I even need to bring up the failed inspections in Iraq, Republican incompetence has killed more people than terrorists? Why do Cons hate America?
Answer: It is not Incompetence, it is the plan.
If all the Government programs worked well like in much of Western Europe, people would be happy and think that Government had a job to do.
In Wiemar Germany the Nazis and other conservatives deliberately made the government as unworkable as possible so people would support a totalitarian government as it would not squabble all the time.
Ever since FDR's New Deal Conservatives have taken the same tack. If they cannot kill a good program they invent ways to make it unwieldy and then complain that is was that way all along.
That is why the health care system in the UK, and Canada is worse than much of the rest of Europe for instance. Or why people stayed on Welfare in the US instead of getting a job, because the Gang Of Pirates eliminated the paths out of welfare, until they were able to kill it.
At one time Medical research was done by the Government, and drugs were tested without bias, both if it worked at all and if it was better than existing.
The GOP cut the funding and privatized both the questions and the answers, so there is less transparency, and only questions that support the drug companies are asked.
Worse than the Vioxx thing is when thousands of poor people in Africa and elsewhere are used as first testing subjects often leading to thousands of deaths, and permanent injury because it is cheaper to test on them than do animal testing.
Cons don't hate America. It is worse, they really don't care about Americans or anyone else but themselves, and only hate those things that stand in their way, like freedom (for anyone but them), and Democracy.

DO WE NEED A BLAMER AND CHIEF OR A COMMANDER AND CHIEF?
Answer: Great info!!!!! Here's more...
This tells the whole story, why Bush was so bad at the end of his term, supposedly bad.
Don ' t just skim over this, it ' s not long, but read it slowly and let it sink in. If in doubt, check it out!
The day the democrats took over was not January 22nd 20 09 , it was actually January 3rd 2007, the
day democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.
The Democrat Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.
For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush ' s Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress.
At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at $12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush ' s Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH!
Remember the day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd
took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
Unemployment... to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans
on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky
for the US economy.
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac?BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
OBAMA and the Democrat Congress
So when someone tries to blame Bush..
REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress
since January 2007 is the Democrat Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 20 09 as well as 2010 & 2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending,
when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 20 09 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions
to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus
spending bill to complete the 20 09 budgets.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these
massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 20 09 .
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.
That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.
After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.
If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold
since January 20th."
"Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack Obama does with mine."Anonymous

Open Question: Do you think its fair for NHL players to join European or other leagues & possibly just leave mid-season?
--- Read/Respond to this article; The flow of star players to European teams during the NHL lockout Sunday, players have turned to Europe to find playing time and salaries until the stalemate between the league and NHL players union is resolved. Fasel said it was good for fans to see stars come home, including two-time MVP Alex Ovechkin to Russian club Dynamo Moscow and New York Islanders captain Mark Streit with Switzerlands best-supported club, Bern. ``That is very positive, theres no doubt, said Fasel, a former Swiss league referee. ``Mark Streit never played in Switzerland when he was a junior. Now he can come back and play for a top team as a big star - thats a great story. Still, Fasel acknowledged mixed feelings. ``You have to pay the insurance (for salaries) and we know most of the clubs have troubles with their budgets, so they should be careful, he said. ``There are some teams in Switzerland that will never be able to pay half a million and more to hire these guys. @Watchdog - I Strongly disagree. That mentality of "oh, well just worry about that if and when it happens" is one of the reasons the NHL cant even get deals done on time. By the time( if and when this happens) it will clearly be too late to have a fair procedure that everyone understands and respects. With your reasoning, wed have a disaster waiting to happen, while tested the integrity of leagues all around the world.

When All Else Fails, the Republicans Decide It's Time To Bash Gays ...
May 19, 2006 ... When All Else Fails, the Republicans Decide It's Time To Bash Gays Again ... We live under the false impression that America is a democracy and that ... are so disconnected with the people they represent, all they can do is try ...
So, basically Republicans are claiming that Obamas a failure because he couldnt fix the mess Republicans?
made in only three years, and the solution the Republicans are offering is Mitt Romney (Bush II).
How is electing Mitt Romney any different from someone saying, "Well, this cut on my arm hasnt healed up just yet, I think I should get a butcher knife and slash my arm open again."
Answer: Yeah pretty much. Here's how it sums up:
GOP: "Obama's got to go"; "Obama's awful"; "He didn't live up to his promises"; "He failed to fix the economy."
Dems: oookaay. Who BROKE the economy in the first place?
GOP: mmmm....well... but he didn't fix it and he said he would! He's had FOUR years to do it and he didn't.
Dems: Well, actually he's only had about two, since when the Tea - Cons took over the House of Representative in 2010, they pretty much killed any other efforts to help job growth. But ok, so what are you proposing to help the situation, since you don't like the President's proposals?
GOP: We're gonna cut taxes some more, b/c the wealthy people are the job makers. We're gonna deregulate the banks & finance companies so they can do whatever they want again. We're gonna stop the EPA regulations from making oil & chemical companies do things they don't want to do b/c it eats into their profits. We're gonna keep pumping money into the Department of Defense budget, b/c by golly, we're gonna take over Iran! And we'll cut spending to those lazy do nothings that are sucking on our money! Old people and disabled people just drag us down! Who needs 'em anyway?
Dems: I see. So basically you want to go back to the same failed economic policies that caused us to teter on the verge of a catastropic economic depression? It was the GOP deregulations that allowed the banks & finance companies to wreck havoc with peoples savings, and lose the value invested in their homes. Wealthy people have continued to benefit from the lowest tax rates in our history, yet haven't really provided any of these jobs they keep promising. Plus, the GOP got us involved in two wars, without having the means to pay for them, which is the biggest cause of our astronomical deficit. You'd rather cut spending to those in need, rather than curb spending to the war chest, which is the biggest portion of our failing budget. That's your plan for the American people?
GOP: uh no. No. That's not all. We're going to make sure "commies" and "socialists" don't destroy our democracy. We're gonna make sure women stay pregnant and in their homes where they belong, and put those damned gays back into the closet where they belong! We're gonna put Jesus Christ back into our public schools, and we don't give a hoot what the Constitution says about "separation of church & state." We're a Christian nation by God, and we're gonna stand up for the Bible and against any people who aren't Christian, and take science out of our classrooms, and stop college education where people get idears, and stop those tree hugging hippies that want to "protect our environment"! That's what else we're gonna do!!
Dems: I don't think you really know what communism and socialism are, because no one is proposing any such thing. Having adequate social programs is not the same as "socialism" and in now way is equivalent to communism. However, what you have just described in fascism. Do you know what that is?
GOP: That's just liberal b.s. We're not fascists you commie pinko b*st*rd!
Dems: I see. OK. Now you've made it perfectly clear where you stand. I'm sure Hitler would be proud.
