Would You Wish This On Your Child?
Drew Petersen didn’t speak until he was 3½, but his mother, Sue, never believed he was slow. When he was 18 months old, in 1994, she was reading to him and skipped a word, whereupon Drew reached over and pointed to the missing word on the page. Drew didn’t produce much sound at that stage, but he already cared about it deeply. - Andrew Solomon is a lecturer in psychiatry at Cornell. How to break a sleeping pattern?
This whole winter break ive been up all night, then fall asleep at like 6am,then wake up at 5pm.So i did the same thing today, and now i have school tomorrow and need to go to bed at like 10 cause i gotta be up at 6am for school,so what should i do ?! i have sleeping medicine.
Answer: Geeez... how did you even get anything accomplished over break if you didn't wake up till 5pm everyday!? lol
Uhh.. try laying down at like 930/945 and just read a book, magazine, newspaper, etc. But turn off all electronics like phones, TV, computer, etc. because it's harder to fall asleep if you were just checking your phone or reading something on the internet. Anyway, just lay down and read something.. you get tired when you read a book so it usually puts me to sleep. Also, you could try listening to your ipod on low until you get really tired.

WEALTH MATTERS; Giving Time to Schools Sometimes Beats Giving Money
A COUPLE of weeks ago, I wrote about a group that rated charities for their effectiveness but was surprised when one of the group’s young founders said he had stopped supporting groups focused on education. He had a perfectly rational-sounding reason: the problems were daunting and he didn’t feel his donations would have an impact. - By PAUL SULLIVAN

Will downing a whole canister of SlimFast protein powder make you lose weight faster?
I heard that if you eat a whole tub of SlimFast in one day you can lose 20 pounds. Is that true and if so how does that work? My overweight honey and I are going to our 10 year school reunion on Saturday and I want her to look really hot. So if I get her to eat the whole thing today will she lose 20 pounds by then?
Shes only made four shakes so far... Ive got to figure out how to get her to take the rest; she seems to think its unhealthy or something.
Answer: I don't know if that would work or not, but here is what I do.
My husband set up a reward program for me. Whenever I lose a few pounds for him he takes me on a trip or buys me something pretty. I so want him to love my body. You should try the reward thing with your wife too. We keep a chart on the fridge for me, keeps me from eating too. And, in the beginning my husband would put pictures of the Victoria Secret models all over my fridge and my mirrors to remind me that I can't eat. It works.
Oh, and if I gain weight he takes a piece of jewelry from me or goes out to dinner without me to give me extra motivation. ;)

I just ordered like 10 things today, and i was wondering how long it takes because on the website it said 5 to 10 business day, but I start school in like 2 weeks :/...so i was wondering because i kinda need those clothes for school...so like if you have personally ordered online from there, that would be great if you could tell me! Thanks! (FYI- i live on the east side of the country)
Answer: You ordered today which is a working day; they normally take three days to sort what you want for the warehouse and be posted, then you need to minus the weekend because everyone isn't working.. So I would say around a week. That's how long it normally takes for me anyway. :)

What things today are based off of plays that were written by Shakespeare?
My friend and I are doing a report on how things today are based off of plays written by Shakespeare. Things like tv shows, books, plays, movies, board games, etc. We already have a few examples so if you are going to say that you dont want to do my homework your not, i just want more examples. We dont want things named after the plays themselves, like the movie Romeo and Juliet or Taming of the Shrew. Just some more examples would be sooooooo helpful!
Thank you so much for helping!
Answer: Here are five movies are based on Shakespeare's plays (but never acknowledge him in the credits). None of these actually use the language in the play.
-O (2001) (play "Othello")
-Scotland, Pa. (2001) (play "The Tragedy of Macbeth")
-10 Things I Hate About You (1999) (play "The Taming of the Shrew")
-West Side Story (1961) (play "Romeo and Juliet")
-Forbidden Planet (1956) (play "The Tempest")
There are hundreds of famous phrases taken from Shakespeare's plays that were used by other writers.
(1) "the game is afoot" is also a line from Henry IV that is re-used by Arthur Conan Doyle for his fictional character, "Sherlock Holmes"
(2) "the sound and the fury" is a line from Macbeth that is re-used by Faulkner as a title for his book
(3) "not a mouse stirring" is a line from Hamlet that is re-used in "The Night Before Christmas" (as a paraphrase)
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse'
(4) "Time Out of Joint" is a line from Hamlet and the title of a 1959 novel by Philip K. Dick. This novel was the basis for the "Truman Show", starring Jim Carrey
(5) "Murder Most Foul" is a line from Hamlet, that became the name of an Agatha Christie movie
(6) "Brave New World" is a line from the Tempest. Aldous Huxley used as the title of his famous book
Some of the best known phrases in the English language come from Shakespeare. For example There's hundreds of phrases, but I'm not sure if this is what you want.
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". (Henry VI)
"What's in a name?" (Romeo and Juliet)
"Discretion is the better part of valour" (Henry V)
"To thine own self be true" (Hamlet)
"The play's the thing" (Hamlet)
"Brevity is the soul of wit" (Hamlet)
"I must be cruel only to be kind." (Hamlet)
This last phrase was used by Nick Lowe in a popular song
Cruel to be Kind [by Nick Lowe ; 1979]
You gotta be cruel to be kind in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you
Ba-by, you gotta be cruel to be kind

What makes Canada so different from the US?
List 10 things that makes us different from our neighborhoods south of the border.
Answer: An IMPORTANT PART OF THE ETERNAL CANADIAN IDENTITY DEBATE IS about what makes us different from the United States. We are on the same North American continent. Canada is party to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and 87 per cent of its external trade is with the U.S. We increasingly share joint security arrangements with the Americans, and three quarters of Canadians speak the same language as they do. I will argue that there are differences, arising from our different histories, political institutions and ethnic compositions, but in the crunch, we are a good deal more like them than not.
If we take to heart Seymour Martin Lipset's argument in Continental Divide, the Charter of Rights has Americanized Canadian political culture. If we take to heart Stephen Clarkson's argument in his recent Uncle Sam and Us, the new North American constitution that free trade agreements have wrought has swept aside much of what once represented Canadian distinctiveness. Even before these treaties, Canada had been a strong supporter of American positions throughout the Cold War years. We had accepted continental arrangements in defence, trade and investment. We had increasingly come to see Canada as sharing a common destiny with Americans, a feeling powerfully reinforced for most Canadians on September 11, 2001. There is also evidence of growing support for a common North American currency, which at least a third of Canadians would support today and many more see as inevitable within the next couple of decades.
The commonalities begin with geography. Like the United States, Canada is a sprawling, continent-wide state, with lived habitats, both urban and rural, that differ strikingly from the smaller-scale ones of Europe. Our nature may be harsher than the American, but it is a North American nature after all, and where the border lies, between New Brunswick and Maine or British Columbia and Washington, is more a matter of chance than of physical geography.
When it comes to environmental practices, Canadians are just as given to energy gluttony as Americans. We were not much more ready than they to embrace the Kyoto Accord despite Canada's late conversion to the cause at the August 2002 Johannesburg summit. Nor does our use of fossil fuels show any sign of diminishing much in the near future.
Films, videos and CDs move effortlessly across the border, and Canadian television and radio, despite valiant efforts by public broadcasters like CBC/Radio Canada, are very much in the American mould. True, Canadian high culture, helped by an intricately developed system of state support for the arts, has been enjoying considerable success. But Canadian popular culture remains far more the creature of American sitcoms, Hollywood and mass publications than of home-grown production.
At the political level, federalism is an institution we borrowed from the Americans, adapting it to a parliamentary system. Canadians are fundamentally a federal people, believing in a division of powers between two distinct levels of government. The particulars of the division of powers are not identical in the two countries: Canadian provinces have somewhat greater relative powers than American states, while Canada's patronage-appointed Senate is a shadow of the powerful American institution of that name. Still, the experience of living in a federal state has marked both societies, and ensures that regionalism continues to be an important force of both identity and cleavage.
Order and compromise
So where does the difference lie? Part of it begins with the "peace, order, and good government" phraseology in the 1867 British North America Act (St. Augustine's "pax, ordo, iustitia," in City of God, Book V). Contrast that with "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" in the American Declaration of Independence...
