Answer: No We need to alter the course. The current direction is not working. Start w/ legalizing/taxing marijuana. The mj policies in America are at extremes. Seattle celebrates hempfest smoking it in public w/ the mayor guest of honor and NYC is arresting multitudes w/ small amounts in their pocket.

Do you think marijuana will be legalized in Washington?

Its on the ballot for this November and it had many supporters, but will it be allowed to pass? Same for colorado.
Answer: I really don't think it has sufficient support in Washington. The coalition to legalize marijuana has a television ad showing a middle-class woman who one would not suspect as a pot user coming out in favor of legalizing it so the state can realize some tax dollars from the sales. I don't think too many people are buying this ad. I think the better approach to this issue would be to decriminalize marijuana, completely. I live in Seattle and unless someone is standing on a downtown street corner with five pounds of leaf to sell, these laws are not really enforced anyway.

Ive never heard of one who did.
Answer: I don't use it , . I'm a father of 6 children. But I think it should be legal. Its use has been lauded as a treatment for everything from depression, to cancer. I've watched several documentaries on the subject, and found my opinion of it change over the last 10 or so years. Things to point out- 1) Its called a gateway drug - so is alcohol and cigarettes. Why not make them illegal? The billions of dollars in taxes they generate, plus the 1000's of jobs they produce. 2) Marijuana use related deaths in the US since 1937 - 0 3) Alcohol and deaths related to smoking in USA since 1937 - 22,500,000 (est) 4) The biggest parties interested in keeping marijuana illegal - pharmaceutical companies. Why pay $80 for a pill to treat something, when you can get it from you're back yard? 5) Amount of money spent on the "War On Drugs" since 1967 - $2,000,000,000,000. Are we really winning? 6) Over 50000 arrests in NYC alone ( mostly african americans ) over a provision in the law where if you're in possession of it, it's a fine. But if it's in public view, its a felony and you go to jail. So , if you're stopped in NYC, and have weed in your pocket, out of sight, and the police tell you to empty your pockets - Boom- felony. Millions of taxpayer dollars spent on frivolous charges and burdening an already over-worked court system. So, I say legalize it. Legal to possess an amount for personal use. Purchase it at a location where a trained and certified proprietor has made sure its safe for you to use. Price it at or below what you were paying for it from the guy down the street (who knows WHAT he put in it). Pay the sales taxes on it. But- Illegal to grow. Illegal to serve to minors. Illegal to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of it. You know; common sense laws. How many people in the country use it? Who can say for definite. How many good people who like to smoke a little on the weekend (same as sharing a 6-pack) with some friends, lose their jobs because random drug testing just happened to fall on that month? How many-basically good- people are sitting in over-crowded jails right now because of laws that were made in the 20's and 30's, mostly against African-American jazz musicians? I've seen those festivals they have in Seattle and San Fransisco every so often. Know whats missing? All the fist fights and pushing and shoving, and people just being butt holes. I'm white, middle-aged, non-user male. Even I can see what good can come from legalizing it. A whole new industry around a resource we've had for centuries and never thought to exploit. A resource that can create jobs, tax revenue, AND fight crime? Where the f*ck are the politicians who want to here my opinion? Oh , right. Would prop 19 for legalizing marijuana have a better chance of passing in Oregon or Washington state?

those states are far more liberal than California? Oregon is so liberal that they legalized assisted suicide where every other state Christians shove their religious crap down everyones throat. Washington has Seattle and has the Hemp Hest where they let pot smoking hippies smoke that crap even though its still illegal there but tolerated to some degree. Would Marijuana more likely be legalized in those states than California? Or not?
Answer: Big reason it did not pass was their was no personal responsibility in the law. Impaired driving was not clearly define and penalties for selling or giving pot to minors was also not included. In short it said that you could get high whenever you want to. For pot to be legalized those who are supporting it must come to grips with the reality that it is a mind altering drug. Those who support pot as non addictive need to recognize that a lot of people are being treated for addiction to pot. So a honest legalization law will need to have the penalties for abuse, illegal distribution and the taxes placed on sales and growing to cover the cost of the problems that will arise. Also the pot today is far more potent than the pot in the 60's and 70's.

Answer: I find it strange that substances far more deleterious than THC are allowed to enter our blood streams, such as ethanol and nicotine. Answer: I'm all for it. Seattle hasn't legalised it, but the police basically take the policy of "we have better things to do than pot busts." I'm not a heavy user, haven't smoked at all since just after my 7 month old was born, but I have in the past and I personally find alcohol much worse than pot. Compare the rate of impairment and disinhibition you get from drinking than what you'd get from smoking a joint, and you tell me what's more harmful. As for the "OMGZ IT KILLS BRAIN CELLS" reaction, well, so does alcohol and watching television: should we outlaw that? My parents are both occasional (infrequent, non-habitual) users, have been since their teens in the UK, and have never run into trouble or addiction... however, one of them had a brother who was a hardcore alcoholic and succumbed to alcohol poisoning at age 33. It'd be taxable and bring in massive profits for the state, as well as decrease the illegal activity surrounding pot sales, AND it would free up the time of the police to go after people and practices that are actually harmful to society. The taxpayers can't lose as far as legalising marijuana goes. Regulation for sales could also have the benefit of eliminating bad or contaminated strains, and the quality better controlled. As far as children and the youth goes, I think it should be regulated like cigarettes: no sales to anyone under 18, et cetera. But legalising it might actually be beneficial. If it were legal, there'd be better education about responsible and safe use, and better education might lessen the chances for abuse. Decriminalising it also would make it less appealing for them to go crazy with it.

Answer: Just about anywhere on the West Coast. Many states, cities, counties, etc have announced they're not going to waste scarce police resources chasing 'casual' pot users. President Obama has announced he's not going to hassle medical pot users in states where it's legal. And here in California you can get a medical marijuana card very easily--they have doctors that sign you up, you just say 'I have headaches sometimes' or something like that. You are also allowed to grow a certain number of plants for yourself In November we have a ballot initiative here in California to legalize pot for recreational purposes. It's looking very likely to pass, and if it does, other states might pass similar laws (we led in medical pot also). In the meanwhile, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and just about all in between, it's almost impossible to get in trouble for small amounts of pot. If you're caught with an 18-wheeler loaded with it, you're in trouble.

Answer: It does have medicinal use, we've known that for quite some time hence funding of studies and medicinal permits. I don't know why it's still illegal, but change is coming. There's a lot of talk here in Seattle about what needs to be done to legalize, along with public education. They also announced that WA is going to reduce penalties from a misdemeanor to a civil infraction.
