Why do you suppose Obama came out in support of gay marriage prior to the election?
Do you think this will hurt or help his reelection chances and why?
***please post answers that resemble ones an adult would give unlike the first response.
I would like to believe it was "the right thing to do" but I agree with the idea that it will pull in the young independents and would never have effected his vote (lack of) with the conservatives
Cris Ray: That sounds like a bit of wishful thinking on your part. ;)
Answer: Help him.
Recent Gallup poll showed 53% of all Americans support marriage equality.
His statement today boosted his base, and pulled in many young Independents.
And what did he lose? The hard core conservatives and religious right that would not have voted for him anyway? It was a win / win situation for Obama.

Is Obama gonna make a statement in support of marriage equality before or after the 2012 election?
Right now, some 53% of Americans support gay marriage, according to national polls.
and theres gonna be a number of states voting on gay marriage in November 2012....
possibly California, Oregon, Maine, Colorado, Minnesota, Maryland, Rhode Island......
Will Obama make a statement in support of gay marriage before the election?
The thing is........
those who support gay marriage are likely to vote for Obama anyway.......even if he doesnt make the statement.
by the way Conservatives: Have you enjoyed your years of being able to boast "Obama opposes gay marriage" ?
do you realize that is only temporary?
just like your boast, "Every state that voted on gay marriage rejects it."
None of that will be true come November 2012.
Ranger: Im not talking about changing federal law.
Obama will support keeping it a state issue.
but the question is about him coming out with a statement stating that he personally supports it.
Answer: on the eve of the election, depending on how his polls are

Chick-Fil-A and homosexuality?
I always see groups on Facebook, such as Wipe Out Homophobia, that always complain about how Christians (by the way, Christianity isnt the only religion that disagrees with homosexuality- I wish people would realize that by now) force their beliefs onto other people.
Then I see this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/25/joe-moreno-chicago-alderm_n_1701646.html
Guess what gay people? Youre pushing your views on other people, and thats exactly what you always complain about with Christians.
I dont get it. If less than 50% of the American population even supports gay rights, why is homosexuality acceptance being forced on the 50% that doesnt agree with it? http://www.google.com/imgres?q=americans+that+support+gay+marriage&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1218&bih=683&tbm=isch&tbnid=eZImQZvgj9lK6M:&imgrefurl=http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/same-sex-marriage-keeps-getting-more-popular-so-why-does-it-fail-at-the-ballot-box/2012/05/09/gIQAnMnbDU_blog.html&docid=j0RDIgsRuqV80M&imgurl=http://www.washingtonpost.com/rf/image_606w/2010-2019/WashingtonPost/2012/05/08/National-Politics/Graphics/w-SameSexMarriage.jpg%253Fuuid%253DydghQJitEeGcAEh2U4gA1g&w=475&h=310&ei=6jMQUMeQOMro0QHF0oGoCw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=117&vpy=124&dur=3149&hovh=181&hovw=278&tx=186&ty=100&sig=113917111882219419353&page=1&tbnh=125&tbnw=192&start=0&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0,i:107
Vegeta, how could you possibly be a true Christian and say that? Its not up to me, but you might need to check and make sure that you even have a relationship with God if you truly believe that. You should at least read Genesis 2:21-25. I normally dont throw Bible verses at people, but since youre insisting that youre a Christian.. at least read the book of the religion you claim to be.
Jessie, Vegeta and you clearly dont understand Christianity. Homosexuality is a sin and is equal with every other sin, but thats not the point at all. People exaggerate homosexuality and make it seem like its okay, and thats when it becomes wrong; homosexuality IS a sin. You said so yourself. Also, you never said how I was lying. You just insulted me multiple times, which is not the way to have a mature argument.
Its not bad when you want people to be happy, Vegetta, but when you claim to be a Christian and the support homosexuality in the name of Christianity, thats wrong. Christianity does not support homosexuality.
Gay marriage and gay rights correspond very closely, Hermes. People who claim that homosexuality is not a sin under the name of Christianity and Christianity supporting gay rights are two entirely separate things. Thats just like Westboro Baptist Church doing things under the name of Christianity when it clearly does not coincide with true Christianity (I do not support them at all).
Yes, a true Christian.
True Christianity is Christianity with doctrine wrapped around the Bible. You may not like it, "Bud", but sticking yourself to a label, such as Christianity, and then professing things in the name of Christianity that clearly go against the Bible (which, again, is the basis for all Christianity), is not true Christianity. I speak for people that are Bible-believing Christians.
Answer: Firstly, you are incorrectly using even the link you gave. You said "less than 50% of the American population even supports gay rights, why is..." You then linked to a study showing that 52$ of the American population supported GAY MARRIAGE.
a. Gay marriage is NOT gay rights, they are not coequal or the same.
b. 52% indicates that more than 50% of Americans support gay marriage, not less than, even if the two things were the same.
c. The support for either civil unions with the rights of marriage OR SSM jumps to 62% while only 36% support "No partnerships at all" according to a major CBS poll - which itself was a tracking poll.
d. The tracking poll overall shows that support for both some form of legally recognized relationship equivalent of marriage AND SSM has been steadily increasing for many years.
Support on various gay issues among the young are as follows (under 30 - from Pew):
SupportOppose
equal protection in housing
86%10%
equal protection in employment
85%14%
protection from hate crimes
85%13%
ability to legally marry
56%39%
ability to adopt children
53%39%
With support steadily increasing the younger you go.
Now, on the issue of Rights themselves, things like equal housing, protection under the law, etc.etc Across the board more than 60% of Americans support them - in all age demographics except the oldest.
So from first to last your post is misleading and in places lies. More than 50% of people in America appear to support gay people on all the questions of equality -- EVEN marriage. So that argument is bogus.
You lie in other ways too -- not all Christians are against homosexuals, for example. The Episcopal Church, USA just approved a same sex ritual that can be used for gay marriage, and the UCC has supported gay marriage for decades. Many other churches as well. As for other religions, the two largest divisions of Judaism (Reform and Conservative) both support full equal and marriage rights for gays. So do most Buddhist groups, NASC, and every Wiccan group (the fastest growing actual religion in the country) that I know of, including COG (covenant of the goddess) and the Correllian Nativist Church International (sic).
Regards,
Hermes
PS A TRUE Christian? Oh come on. Christian means Christ follower, not biblio-idolator. If she believes in Jesus Christ she is Christian, just as much as any other person who professes him; the Bible is just a book, and the only story in it that needs to worry a person professing Christ is the one about Him.
At least now we know where you are coming from, so let me note, among those under 25, even among evangelical youth, equality for homosexuality holds majority support - despite 30 years of propaganda and thought control.
PPS You may not like it bud -- but you do not define Christian. The definition is there. Those at Westboro profess Christ; those at the National Cathedral profess Christ. By definition both are Christian. The fact that neither one agrees with you is utterly meaningless, and asserting otherwise will not change it. Argue theology if you want - but then argue theology, don't pretend falsely to have "the truth" when what you really mean is your interpretation of a given religion. You speak for no one but you and MAYBE your congregation.
PPPS And you immediately attempt to prove my point for me by then stating your definition and insisting its the truth. But, it isn't. The Greek word Χριστιανός (christianos)—meaning "follower of Christ"—comes from Χριστός (christos)—meaning "anointed one" It has the implication of a form of voluntary or involuntary slavery to "the Christ." Believe anything you want, but the false trope that somehow the "real" definition of Christianity is what you want it to be, or I want it to be, or anyone wants it to be is just that, a false trope, unless it is simply the profession of Lord Christ -- and all the attempts to argue from the "appeal to authority" won't change it. After all, that's even the definition that Christ himself gave according to the book you idolize, isn't it? (Matthew 10:32, Luke 12:8, Romans 10:9) For all the other arguments in the book, if you are going to supposedly take it seriously, its kind of hard to misinterpret any of these three wouldn't you say? Notice the COMPLETE lack of any additional requirements beyond belief in Christ? Of course, the book was hundreds of years from being formalized when these words were written.

Tuesday was a Banner Day for Atheists and Non-Theists - the fastest growing BLOCK in America!!?
I am an non-theistic Buddhist myself.
Are you glad in the rise and acceptance of Non-Theists in American Politcs!!
**OUR TIME HAS COME - we are the future!!!!!!!****
Election Day a Win for Nontheists
According to Sarah Posner, with Religion Dispatches, "Given what weve learned recently about religious realignments -- declining numbers of Catholics, declining numbers of mainline Protestants, declining numbers of evangelicals in the 18-29 year-old age group, and increasing numbers of unaffiliated voters, and in particular, atheists and agnostics in the 18-29 year-old age group -- it seems like a significant shift is underway."
Wed, 11/07/2012 - 17:12
Election Day for the nontheistic community was overwhelmingly a very good night!
In Florida, Amendment 8, which would have allowed for taxpayer funding of religion was voted down.
Voters in Washington state, Maryland and Maine approved same-sex marriage. "Weve lost at the ballot box 32 times," Paul Guequierre of Human Rights Campaign told CNN. "History was made tonight."
In Minnesota voters rejected a measure that would have banned same-sex marriage.
President Barack Obama was reelected. Obama received a "C" grade on the Secular Coalitions Presidential Candidate Scorecard, coming in behind Libertarian Gary Johnson, who received a "B." However, of the two major party candidates, Obama came in well above his challenger, Republican, Mitt Romney, who received an "F" on the Scorecard.
Missouris U.S. Representative, Todd Akin, lost his seat. Akin, who sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, has repeatedly denied scientific evidence in many areas, including regarding climate change, and making explosive claims that the female reproductive system is able to block conception from an unwanted pregnancy. He also objected to removing "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.
Kyrsten Sinema, won her Arizona Congressional race, she is the first bisexual member of Congress and now the only nontheist [see "the Bad" below].
The Bad
Sadly, longtime California U.S. Representative, Pete Stark, lost his reelection bid. Stark was the only open nontheist in Congress.
Minnesota U.S. Rep, Michelle Bachman, who received an "F" in every category on the Secular Coalitions Presidential Primary Candidate Scorecard and an "F" on our Congressional Report Card, was reelected.
The Opportunity?
Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin will be the first openly gay Senator. Baldwin lists no religion and could be a strong ally for the nontheistic community.
Looking Forward
Prior to the election same sex marriage was permitted in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont and the District of Columbia. We can now add three more states to that list. Additionally, we saw a successful effort to block marriage equality. According to CNN a majority of Americans now support same-sex marriage, with the number of Americans saying they have a close friend or family member who is gay at 60 percent-up from 49 percent in just 2010. Public opinion is definitely shifting on this issue.
The religiously unaffiliated are quickly becoming a voting bloc politicians-especially Democrats-will need to court. According to Pew, unaffiliated voters are now equal to white evangelicals. According to exit polls, the nones voted for Obama by a margin of 70-26. Obama won more than half of those who seldom or never attend religious services, and a full 70 percent of the religiously unaffiliated, according to CNNs exit polls. And in various states, that number was even higher. For example, in Pennsylvania, where unaffiliated voters make up 12 percent of the electorate, Obama won 74 percent of the "none" vote.
A shift indeed. One we are looking forward to.
20% and growing dude
More NON-THEISTS than Blacks!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer: I am atheist, but my goal is not to make others the same way. Nor am I a non-believer for political gain or purpose. I simply opt for science and not religion.
There is no reason to try and covert, some people want and need religion. As long as it stays out of government, I dont care if they worship a rock.

Why do most American Catholics support gay marriage?
http://www.washingtonblade.com/2011/03/31/most-u-s-catholics-back-civil-marriage-for-gays/U.S. Catholics are more supportive of LGBT rights, including same-sex marriage, than the general public and other Christians, according to a newly released study analyzing public opinion polls taken in 2010.
The study, conducted by the D.C.-based Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), found that nearly three-quarters of Catholics support either allowing same-sex couples to marry (43 percent) or allowing them to legalize their relationships through a civil union (31 percent).
Just 22 percent of Catholics indicated same-sex couples’ relationships should not be legally recognized, the study found.
“If marriage for gay couples is defined as a civil marriage ‘like you get at city hall,’ Catholic support for allowing gay couples to marry increases by 28 points, from 43 percent to 71 percent,” a 22-page report describing the study’s findings says.
“It may come as a surprise to many that rank and file Catholics are more supportive of rights for gays and lesbians than other Christians and the public,” said Robert P. Jones, PRRI’s chief executive officer. “But the best data available paints this consistent portrait across a range of issues, including same-sex marriage, workplace non-discrimination, open military service, and adoption rights for gay and lesbian couples.”
PRRI released its study report, Catholic Attitudes on Gay and Lesbian Issues: A Comprehensive Portrait from Recent Research,” on March 22, four days after the release of an ABC News-Washington Post poll showing similar views among U.S. Catholics.
The ABC News/Post poll, conducted March 10-13 by landline and cell phone among 1,005 adults — of all Americans, not just Catholics — found that an all-time high of 53 percent of those responding said it should be legal for gays and lesbians to marry.
The 53 percent support for legalized same-sex marriage represents an increase from 32 percent support for same-sex marriage shown in a similar poll conducted in 2004, the ABC News-Post pollsters said. Forty-four percent of respondents in the March 2011 ABC-Post poll said they oppose legalizing same-sex marriage compared to 62 percent saying they opposed such marriages in the 2004 poll.
The ABC News-Post poll showed that support for same-sex marriage among white Catholics increased by a dramatic 23 points between 2006 and 2011, from 40 percent to 63 percent.
Support for same-sex marriage among white Evangelical Protestants rose from 14 percent in 2006 to 25 percent this year, the poll shows. It shows that support for marriage equality among white non-Evangelical Protestants increased from 41 percent in 2006 to 57 percent in 2011.
The Public Religion Research Institute study is based on findings of six separate polls conducted between July and December of 2010. Three were conducted by PRRI and three were conducted by other survey research organizations.
The sample size for the six polls ranged from a little more than 1,000 to just over 3,000. According to the report, the Catholic “subsample” for the six polls ranged from just over 185 to a little over 350, resulting in a margin of error ranging from plus or minus 3 percent to plus or minus 7 percent, the report says.
The PRRI study report lists these additional findings:
• “Seventy-three percent of Catholics favor laws that would protect gay and lesbian people against discrimination in the workplace; 63 percent of Catholics favor allowing gay and lesbian people to serve openly in the military; and 6-in-10 Catholics favor allowing gay and lesbian couples to adopt children.”
• “Compared to the general church-going public, Catholics are significantly less likely to hear about the issue of homosexuality from their clergy, but those who do are much more likely to hear negative messages.”
• “Compared to other religious groups, Catholics are significantly more likely to give their church poor marks for how it is handling the issue of homosexuality.” Thirty-nine percent of Catholics give their own church or parish a grade of either “A” or “B” on its handling of the issue of homosexuality.
• “Seven-in-ten Catholics say messages from America’s places of worship contribute a lot (33 percent) or a little (37 percent) to higher rates of suicide among gay and lesbian youth.”
• “Catholics overwhelmingly reject the idea that sexual orientation can be changed. Nearly 7-in-ten (69 percent) of Catholics disagree that homosexual orientation can be changed; less than 1-in-4 (23 percent) believe that it can be changed.”
• “A majority of Catholics (56 percent) believe that sexual relations between two adults of the same gender is not a sin. Among the general population, less than half (46 percent) believe it is not a sin.”
The PRRI study found that support for same-sex marriage among Catholics varied greatly depending on how frequently they attend church. A PRRI poll conducted in September

Should I vote Democrat or Republican in 2012?
I support the fiscal views of the GOP; I believe cutting spending is the best way to balance the budget and reduce the deficit.
However, as an avid supporter for gay rights, I dont like the idea that I would be voting for a candidate whose party is against social justice. The only GOP candidate for equality would be Ron Paul, but he isnt doing too well in the polls and I doubt he will win the nomination.
Should I sacrifice my desire to see equality anytime soon so that the fiscal issues of this country are addressed responsibly? Or are civil rights more important?
Answer: I find it odd that you would have concerns over how the republicans view gay rights when it was Bill Clinton that signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law that defined marriage as between one man and one woman. If he supported gay rights he could have vetoed the bill and there was not enough votes to over ride that.
You are left with a decision of supporting American as a nation or supporting your own agenda.
If democrats regain control of both houses of congress you WILL see the national debt increase, the rate of which will depend upon who is in the White House. When Bush was in the White House and democrats controlled both houses of the legislature the national debt increased an average of $975.9 billion each year. Once Obama took over the debt increased an average of $1.71 trillion each year.
That 4 year period of time, the national debt increased by $5.4 trillion.
OK some folks will say well things were bad during Bush's last 2 years so I will also tell you that when Bill Clinton was president and democrats controlled but houses the national debt increased an average of $304 billion each year, with the republicans the debt increased an average of $155 billion each year.
Now after blasting the democrats it is time to tell it like it is.
Cutting spending will help to balance the budget but if you were to cut it that deeply you would need to cut 46% and this would leave to many people struggling to survive. At some point republicans have t realize that the only way that we will ever get a balanced budget is to increase taxes and make spending cuts. Taxes can not be to high or the economy will be crippled and cuts can not be to deep because it too will cripple the economy.
The problem with a balanced budget is that it does not address the debt. Even if you did not borrow any more you will still owe more than $14 trillion.

Why do people aged 15 to 25 overwhelimgly support Gay Rights? Has the GOP Lost its war on gays/minorities?
Note that this poll was taken in 2003 when right wingers were in total control of Government -
http://www.pewtrusts.org/news_room_detail.aspx?id=16224Young Americans Support Civil Unions, Marriage and Protections for Gays and Lesbians
Contact: Cindy Jobbins, 215.575.4812, Kevin Bonderud, 202.667.0901
Washington, DC - 02/05/2004 - Young Americans show strong levels of support for tolerance and equality toward homosexuals, and majorities say gays and lesbians should be able to form legal civil unions and get legally married, according to a new national survey of 15-25 year olds. And young people overwhelmingly support equal protection when it comes to housing, employment, and hate crimes. By six-to-one margins, American youth support gay rights and protections related to housing, employment, and hate crimes and those sentiments are held by all ideological, partisan, racial, geographic, and religious groups. One out of two respondents said they know someone who is gay; knowing a gay person has a significant impact on attitudes.
“The breadth of overall support demonstrates that young adults are doing more than showing simple support for fairness and tolerance toward homosexuals,” according to a report on the survey issued by Lake Snell Perry, which conducted the survey. “For them, these values transcend the realm of gay issues and have become part of their larger view of the way America should look.”
The survey was sponsored by the Center for Democracy & Citizenship at The Council for Excellence in Government and CIRCLE (the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement). It is the largest survey of young people on gay rights issues since last November’s Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, when the debate became more prominent in Washington, state houses, and across the country.
The percentage of young people who support and oppose rights for gays and lesbians are:
Support Oppose
equal protection in housing
86% 10%
equal protection in employment
85% 14%
protection from hate crimes
85% 13%
ability to legally marry
76% 19%
ability to adopt children
73% 27%
Contrary to conventional wisdom, African American and Latino youth are more supportive of extending equal protections to gays on housing, employment, and hate crimes than whites. And majorities of these young people, although less intense, support civil unions, marriage, and adoption.
Majorities of Republican, conservative, and Born-Again Christian youth also support protections on housing, employment, and hate crimes, although they oppose gay civil unions, marriage, and adoption.
“These findings compliment other research we’ve done showing that young people are more socially tolerant than older generations,” said Peter Levine, CIRCLE’s Deputy Director. “This survey adds clear and detailed evidence that the DotNet Generation is the most tolerant and respectful of diversity in American history.”
Among the most intense supporters of housing, employment, and hate crimes protections are those who know a gay or lesbian person, women, Democrats and liberals, moderates, and African Americans. Among the strongest supporters for family rights, such as civil unions, gay marriages, and adoptions, are young people who say they know a gay person, women, and young African Americans.
“We know that an issue-based appeal is an excellent way to get the attention of young adults,” said David Skaggs, Executive Director of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Democracy & Citizenship at the Council for Excellence in Government. “This important data suggests an additional way for candidates and political organizations to reach this critical voting bloc.”
“These results confirm what we’ve sensed: that America’s youth--the undeniable leaders of tomorrow--are increasingly more supportive of some of the most important issues facing the gay community,” said John O’Connor, national director of the Gill Foundation, a funder of the survey. “We commend CIRCLE and the Council for Excellence in Government for their leadership in including gay issues for the first time in a public policy survey of young people.”
The survey of 1,000 people between the ages of 15 and 25 was conducted November 17-24, 2003, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent. It was supported by CIRCLE, The Pew Charitable Trusts, Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Gill Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and the W.T. Grant Foundation.

Is it illegal for me to marry my mom when I turn 18? Or does Obama support equality?
Answer: Two days ago polls showed that for the first time ever, most Americans favor gay marriage. If the polls ever show that Americans favor marriage between mothers and sons, then Obama will be in favor of that too if he's up for reelection. But not until then.
Some of the other answers point out that laws about incest have nothing to do with Obama. I mention Obama and the gay marriage issue here because the questioner is obviously not asking if it's illegal to marry his mother. He is (somewhat unskillfully) trying to make a point about President Obama and the gay marriage issue, so that is what this question really IS about. The questioner is basically asking why, if Obama thinks equality is a good reason for supporting gay marriage, doesn't he also logically support legalization of incestuous marriages. You may not like the question, but any other interpretation of the question is misreading its intent.

How can most Americans support same-sex marriage and want a federal ban on it at the same time?
There has been much controversy over the polls coming out lately about SSM. CBS poll today shows the majority of Americans want a federal constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage and Obama has been tanking in the polls ever since he made the announcement about it. In addition that his announce has lost him independents 2-1.
Yet thats juxposed with these strange polls showing a majority of America supports SSM..
Why is there such a descrepency in what the media is advocating and what seems to actually happening (I.e. gay marriage bans winning by huge margins)? Is the medias blind support for SSM actually costing Obama votes?
For example: Here is the latest poll on SSM
The headline trumpets, Majorty supports gay unions..But when you look at the numbers on 38% support SSM. The rest is split between civil unions and no recognition! Many networks are literally lying!!! The poll even reads majority was to ban it on a federal level
http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/CBSNYTPoll_051412.pdf?tag=contentMain;contentBody

Do you think Obama can get re-elected now after the gay-marriage snafu?
I was sure he was going to be re-elected, but now, Im thinking he has probably alienated way too many independents.
And yes, its a snafu and he knows it. Biden put his foot in his big giant mouth, basically forcing the issue.
Answer: Probably makes his position stronger.
Gave his base a huge boost with his historic proclamation (no other US President has every come out publicly for marriage equality)
Recent Gallup poll shows 53% of all Americans support gay marriage rights.
And if you look at 18 to 30 year olds that support number goes up to almost 60% so he's probably an even stronger pull for young Independent voters.

Do You Think Gay Marriage Should Be Legal?
Do You Think Gay Marriage Should Be Legal? In Califorina gay marriage is now legal. View my blog at http://jtsthoughtsnow.blogspot.com/ to take a poll on if you think it should be legal or not.
Answer: I think its fantastic! I am so happy. It is the biggest thing to occur so far this century, comparable to the 50's and racism.
OF COURSE IT SHOULD BE LEGAL.
Here is my answer to a previous question on this topic. I came across the following verses in response to people who argue that homoesexuals will destroy the "sancity" of marriage. NOTE: PLEASE READ IT IN HUMOUR!! It is intended to be SARCASTIC against those who come up with pathetic excuses about why gar marriage is "wrong"
1) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
2) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning. Also apparently those homosexual animals have picked up some unnatural behavior.
3) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
4) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
5) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
11) Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans was constitutional and worked just as well as separate marriages will for gays & lesbians.
Haha fantastic! Please remember it is all sarcastic...it is making fun of those who are against gay marriage for the reasons mentioned above. We really are a hypocritcal society. In 50 years time, we will look back at this decade as the decade that made a difference. I truely believe our treatment of people who are homosexual is equivilant of the treatment of black-skinned people in the 50's (and to some extent, still today).
And I will say it again, becuase there will always be someone who reads this the wrong way...These statements SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE. They are showing just how uterly rediculous arguments against gay marraige are through sarcasm.
I am heterosexual, and I am for EQUALITY ALL THE WAY (not part of the way like "civil unions")

Gay leaders blame TV ads and Obama for loss in Maine?
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hBQZTCRkDlS7z_xQdkG_Ut9OCdagD9BOVS0O0
"SAN FRANCISCO — Stunned and angry, national gay rights leaders Wednesday blamed scare-mongering ads — and President Barack Obamas lack of engagement — for a bitter election setback in Maine that could alter the dynamics for both sides in the gay-marriage debate.
Conservatives, in contrast, celebrated Maine voters rejection of a law that would have allowed gay couples to wed, depicting it as a warning shot that should deter politicians in other states from pushing for same-sex marriage.
"Every time the citizens have voted on marriage, they have always sided with natural marriage," said Mathew Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, a Florida-based Christian legal group. "Maine dramatically illustrates the will of the people, and politicians should wake up and listen."
Gay activists were frustrated that Obama, who insists he staunchly supports their overall civil rights agenda, didnt speak out forcefully in defense of Maines marriage law before Tuesdays referendum. The law was repealed in a vote of 53 percent to 47 percent.
"President Obama missed an opportunity to state his position against these discriminatory attacks with the clarity and moral imperative that would have helped in this close fight," said Evan Wolfson of the national advocacy group Freedom to Marry. "The anti-gay forces are throwing millions of dollars into various unsubtle ads aimed at scaring people, so subtle statements from the White House are not enough."
The White House, asked about the criticism, had no immediate comment.
The marriage debate is simmering in at least a half-dozen states where a same-sex marriage bill is pending or where a court ruling or existing law is being eyed by conservatives for possible challenge.
Had Maines law been upheld by voters, it would have become the sixth state to legalize gay marriage — and the first to affirm it by popular vote. In Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Iowa, gay marriage resulted from court decisions or legislation.
California is sure to be a major battleground over the next several years. Last year, conservatives succeeded in winning public approval of Proposition 8, which overturned a state court ruling allowing gay marriage. Gay rights groups want to take the issue back to the voters but are divided on a timetable.
In the aftermath of the Maine vote, some California activists appealed to their supporters for money to help them put a measure on the 2010 ballot. Other activist leaders want to wait until 2012.
"Its never too early to go back to right a fundamental wrong," said Chaz Lowe of Yes! on Equality, who favors shooting for 2010. "A lot of people are angry, a lot of people are upset. It at least has the potential to be a mobilization for the grass roots."
Some California activists said the outcome in Maine strengthened their belief that it will fall to the U.S. Supreme Court — not the voters — to make gay marriage legal. A federal lawsuit challenging Prop. 8 is scheduled to go to trial in January, the first step in a legal journey that is expected to reach the high court in a few years.
"The results in Maine underscore exactly why we are challenging Californias same-sex marriage ban," said Chad Griffin, president of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the Los Angeles group spearheading the lawsuit. "The U.S. Constitution guarantees equal rights to every American, and when those rights are violated, it is the role of our courts to protect us, regardless of what the polls say."
The situation elsewhere:
_ In New Jersey, the election Tuesday of Republican Chris Christie as governor puts extra pressure on gay rights supporters to win passage of a pending same-sex marriage bill before the legislative session ends in January. Christie says he would veto such a bill, while lame-duck Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat, says he would sign it.
_ In Iowa, where the state Supreme Court legalized gay marriage last April, conservatives have no quick way to overturn the ruling. Their only option would be to amend the state constitution through a ballot measure — in 2014 at the earliest — and that effort would need approval from a legislature whose current Democratic leaders dont even want to debate the issue.
_ In New Hampshire, conservatives have filed legislation to repeal the states new gay-marriage law and amend the constitution to ban such unions. Kevin Smith, executive director of the conservative Cornerstone Policy Research, said he doubts the measures will pass, but hopes the vote in Maine will give gay-marriage opponents ammunition for the 2010 elections.
"It gives us more fodder to go back to people and say, Look, they arent letting you vote on it," Smith said.
_ In Washington, D.C., conservatives are trying to force a popular vote on a bill headed toward City Council approval that would legalize gay marriage. Mic

Gay Marriage In Maine Will Be Put Up To A Popular Vote Like California. Thoughts?
Gay marriage foes in Maine have gathered enough signatures to put the gay marriage debate on the ballot this year. Its going to be Prop 8 all over again. Gay marriages were supposed to start September 12th, but they will now be put on hold since the signatures were gathered.
Im really furious about this. Gay marriage is being put up to a popular vote yet again. Im pessimistic about this, since the whole Prop 8 fiasco. I thought California was going to yet gay marriage remain legal since its a liberal state, but that didnt happen, and I imagine that Maine is less liberal than California.
And polls show only 45% of Maine citizens support marriage equality and that number will only go down further when anti-gay organizations spread lies on how legalizing gay marriage will harm society, like they did in California.
I feel bad that gay Maine citizens didnt even get the chance to marry.
Thoughts?
Answer: The minorities must be protected. It's unconstitutional if they're not. You can look at the Gay Rights Movement the same way as people used to look at the African American Rights Movement. They were denied the same rights, more or less, as gay people are now. If left up to the majority vote, it would have taken much longer for them to get equal rights.
People might not agree with their lifestyles or the way they behave or look, but this is a free country and they are entitled to the same rights as any other citizen.
So, I don't think it should be left up to a people's majority, at least when it comes to civil rights. The minority should always be given the same rights as the majority.

3 Out Of 4 Americans Under 30 Support Same-Sex Marriage, New ...
Bottom line, most Americans support marriage equality, a finding that almost every major poll has reported for the past three years, and those who oppose civil same-sex marriage have no legal basis for doing so.
POLL of these 8 reasons what ones the strongest?
8 reasons why Proposition h8te is wrong
1. The US Constitution.
The American Constitution pledges equality to all US citizens. Not allowing a certain group to marry, is denying them a basic fundamental right. Equal Rights.
2. Freedom of Religion.
Not only is it discrimination against the LGBT community, its also discrimination against many religions that accept gay marriage. Just because some religions are homophobic, doesnt mean all of them are. After all, marriage was around thousands of years before the first church was even built. Todays major religions symply adopted the idea of marriage. They dont own it.
3. The Family.
A common argument against gay marriage is that it destroys the family structure, and that it damages children of gays mentally. This argument is COMPLETELY baseless. Most children of same sex couples are for gay marriage and are anything but mentally damaged. The vast majority of children of gay parents are reported to do well in school and go onto higher education.
4. Nothing bad happened to Spain, Holland, or Canada after gay marriage became legal there.
5. Children.
If you care about children, then vote against proposition h8te. Regardless of whether gay couples are legally documented as married or not, they still have the right to have children, often through invitral fertilization. The only problem is, the child doesnt recieve the same benefits as a legally married couple would.
6. If gay marriage is a sign of you fundies rapture, then its just one step closer to you all becoming saved! You arent scared of being left behind are you? Youre such great Christians after all.
7. Common sense.
8. Excuses.
There are no logical arguments that support proposition 8, as proven through pro-h8te advertisements.
(Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gE5oOuf_... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoMA_kcRy...
Where anti-h8ters offer reasons backing their arguments, pro-h8ters merely offer excuses backing their homophobia.
Copy and post this is you HATE propostion h8te and LOVE equality!
Answer: 7. Common sense.
