Has anyone ever been drugged in New Orleans?
We were on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and I ordered a drink, never left it unattended and my friends were with me the entire time. I drank about 1/2 of it (it was in a 16oz plastic cup). About 20 minutes later I started feeling fuzzy and disoriented. We left immediately and before I could get two blocks away, I could not walk without assistance. I do not remember going back to our hotel and my friends tell me that a couple of hours later I was somewhat combative and then unconscious for a while. I have no memory of what happened after that drink. It was early (around 8PM) and we were back at the hotel by 9PM. I woke up the next morning feeling hungover and disoriented. Im not a lightweight drinker, I had eaten dinner just before we went down into the Quarter and I had not had a drink before we went or at dinner. Thank goodness I was with my friend and was taken care of. If I had not had them I can only imagine what might have happened.
No - It was just a regular Margarita, on the rocks, nothing special or strong and my usual drink of choice. Im always aware of my surroundings (worked in law enforcement). It was just really out of the ordinary - because when I went in to the bar I was fine....within 30 minutes I couldnt function. Had I left the drink unattended it would have made more sense. My current job requires quite a bit of travel and I am in New Orleans at least once or twice a month - and have never had anything like that happen before. I hadnt taken any medication or anything that would have interacted with the alcohol. We ate at Dickie Brennans and then went down Bourbon Street. The drink was at the Cats Meow. I have been there more times than I can count and have never had an incident like this.
Answer: Yeah maybe like 25 years ago when I was there for the New Orleans jazz festival. Them good 'ole times!

How do I report a pothole on a busy street in New Orleans? What is Bill Capos website?
S&WB was repairing sewer lines on Freret and Gen. Pershing St. Of course they left a big hole filled with sand. Since then someone has filled the hole with shells -that didnt work; they filled it with sand - that didnt work. They are no orange cones or yellow blinking lights to warn drivers of the hole. Yesterday a ladys car got stuck in it and they had to literally push her car out of it. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS HOLE AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND REPAIR!!!! The pothole has caused some accidents, as well as causing damage to my home that I just finished repairing. I really would like Bill Capo to come out and do a report on it. The Streets Dept, S&WB and the City Council (O.Thomas and S. Head) had been notified and NOTHING - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - has been done yet to correct the problem.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
Answer: • 6 On Your Side: (800) 416-NEWS (6397)
This is the number for WDSU's 6 On Your Side. Call them and tell them about your problem. They seem to get fast results for people. The S&WB is freakin' joke. City Council doesn't care. Good luck.

On what street in New Orleans is it still legally ok to duel?
We were having a discussion in my American History class and one of the students said she read an article where it said that on one street in New Orleans it is still legal to hold a duel. Any ideas?
Answer: Yes, I have an idea. You should never listen to someone who says "I read somewhere".
It is not true, dueling is illegal and has been for decades, even in Louisiana. I guess technically it's not really right to say duelling per se is illegal (only 20 states have felt the need to specifically ban duelling), but if someone is killed or injured, anyone involved can and will be charged.

Is Rampart Street in New Orleans safe at night?
I am headed to New Orleans in October, and will be staying at a B&B located on Rampart Street. The first three days of my trip I will be spending with a male friend, but the last day I will be on my own. As a female, it is always a concern whether or not the neighborhood you are staying in is safe after dark.
Answer: The other answers are correct and you need to be a little more cautious than usual on Rampart Street after dark. The reason is there is a public housing development (the "Iberville Project") just outside the French Quarter and it is a couple of blocks past Rampart.
Unfortunately, pubilc housing developments across America became scary places by the 1970s, and that includes New Orleans. New Orleans had two public housing developments close to downtown, and one of them (the Iberville) has reopened after Katrina. The other (the "Lafitte Project") is scheduled for demolition. Before Katrina, the Iberville and Lafitte Projects were the crime generators for the central business district and - to a lesser extent - the French Quarter. Why the Iberville is being reopened is beyond my understanding.
That all said, the serious violence you see in the news about New Orleans is almost all drug characters killing each other over literally deadly competition and drug disputes. Use normal common sense, stay away from people involved with crack cocaine, and you should be fine. "Normal common sense" may include taking a taxi back to your hotel if it's late at night. That would be good advice in every city in the world.
Note that questions like yours (about New Orleans) tend to attract highly negative "answers" from people who do not live here and who do not know what they are talking about. There are several of us who answer qestions about New Orleans and who really live here. Please post another question if you want more specifi information, or write directly to one (or more) of us.
Hope you have a good trip!
