THE LONG RUN; Conservative Stars Small-Town Roots
JANESVILLE, Wis. -- Representative Paul D. Ryan s childhood home here was not overtly partisan. His parents were enthusiastic supporters of Representative Les Aspin, a Democrat, yet adored President Ronald Reagan from their glimpses of him on the evening news. But the death of his father when Mr. Ryan was only 16 punctured his life of math tests - Representative Paul D Ryan began developing self-reliance and a political philosophy as a teen after his father died that has culminated into a defining role as a vice-presidential candidate; in Ryan, Mitt Romney has found not only a sympathetic life story to animate his campaign but also a politician who fills in what many see as the gaps in Romneys conservative bona fides (Series: The Long Run). WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney and his team of advisers built a reputation during the Republican primaries as tough street fighters skilled in the tactics of political warfare. The aggressive posture ultimately became one of Mr. Romneys selling points, - Campaign memo; Mitt Romney and his advisers were aggressive and tough during the Republican primaries, but his recent restraint has opened a round of second-guessing about his insistent focus on the economy as Democrats have turned attention to other topics; some Republicans worry he is not nimble and aggressive enough to withstand the Democratic assault against him. Should disaffected Democrats draft Mark Warner (VA)?
Mark Warner is a centrist Democrat. He is primarily responsible for turning the formerly deep-red state of Virginia into a battleground state at worst, a blue state at best (just ask Gov. Tim Kaine and Senator Jim Webb), so he can appeal across party lines. He respects both the 1st and 2nd Amendments.
He is only a former 1-term governor, but only due to Virginias constitutional term limits. He is also a successful businessman, so by those 2 points alone, he is at least as qualified as Mitt Romney.
Right now, the Democratic Party is tearing itself apart with this Hillary-Obama fight. Also, the idiot liberal Howard Dean has DISENFRANCHISED voters in Michigan and Florida (Havent we heard this before?), two crucial swing states.
The Republicans are either going to nominate John McCain, who will then win the White House if facing Hillary or Obama, or Romney, who will try to cater to the Religious Wrong, and thus further polarize this country. Draft Warner!
Answer: I have heard good things about Mark Warner, but I don't know enough to be able to say that he'd be a good presidential candidate for us Dems. I do have to say that he couldn't be worse than Obama & Hillary, so you may be on to something.
