A MEASURE OF CHANGE; Obamas Journey To Tougher Tack On a Rising China
WASHINGTON -- President Obama s patience with China had been fraying for months, and by November 2010 he was fed up. Meeting with President Hu Jintao in Seoul, South Korea, Mr. Obama warned that if China did not do more to curb North Koreas bellicose behavior, he would have to take steps to shield the United States from the threat of a nuclear - Pres Obamas tougher line toward China is showing itself on several fronts and has become a focal point in the presidential campaign, one that encompasses both security and economic concerns; harder stance also puts to the test Obamas management of a crucial, and occasionally combustible, relationship (Series: A Measure of Change). Is this the one advantage Romney has over previous Republican nominees?
In the past, GWBush being the most recent of many, the Republican primary forced Republican candidates to prove how far right they were in order to pass on to the general. Once in the general, it was a race to the center.
Mitt Romney somehow in the era of the Tea Party Conservatives managed to slip by most of the prove you are far right banter and now does not have to move at all to occupy the center. Hes already there.
Does this provide an advantage of some sort?

Will Romney move back to left of center if he gets the republican nomination?
Its not like republicans have any choice after he is nominated. They either vote for Romney, or stay home and hand the election to Obama on a silver platter.
Answer: He'll do ANYTHING that he thinks will put him one step closer to getting into the White House.

Who would win a boxing match between Obama and Romney?
I would have to go with Obama.
Obama would be much faster on his feet and can certainly think faster.
Romney has about 25 pounds on Obama but is much slower and tends to not be able to make quick decisions.
Round One
Romney moves to the center of the ring, flat footed and fighting from a half crouch.
Obama delivers a blistering round of left jabs, always the dancing master on the balls of his feet, nible and lighting fast.
Round Two
Romney moves toward Obama but Obama dances away, Romney swinging wildly now.
Obama now with more left jabs, infuriating Romney whose blows glance harmlessly away.
Round Three
Romney frustrated now. Obama taunts him with "Float Like Butterfly Sting Like a Bee. Everything you learned you learned from me".
Romney lunges as Obama leans into the ropes.
Romney swings wildly.
Obama appears to be hurt and covers himself.
Romney continues to swing wildly but is tiring himself.

Conservatives, are you mad the Rick Perry is beating Romney decreasing the likelihood of beating Obama?
I think Romney stands a better chance....at least Rick Perry can pretend to move to the center so he can be a better alternative to Obama instead of going full steam ahead as a conservative candidate but is going to be harder to win against Obama who absolutely sucks as a President.

For Vice President, a Heartbeat Away From the Public Isnt Close Enough
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Yes, Joseph R. Biden Jr. gives a lot of stump speeches. But, no, that is not the most indelible part of his campaign style. If Romney loses the election, will the GOP need an extreme makeover in order to survive?
I mean if Romney loses during a recession (which is likely going to happen according to polls), how can the GOP survive?
do you think theyll get rid of their most extreme plans and move towards the center?
why did the GOP sell out to right wing pundits and FOX NEWS? they are clearly costing them the presidency. As a moderate, I feel both parties have gotten extreme!

What does this mean? Axlerod said he wont let Romney Move back to the Center after his phony far right Primar?
David Axlerod said he wont let Romney Move back to the Center after his phony Far right nonsense during the primary season? What does he mean in English Please?
Answer: IDK. I guess Axlerod intends to keep reminding folks what Romney said while pandering to the far right for votes. Most people already know that Romney is a moderate/centrist...which appeals to a much larger percentage of Americans anyway...Independents are the ones Romney should be courting. Republicans will vote for whoever the GOP nominee is even if they don't like him.. Democrats will vote for Obama... There are a lot of Independents and we don't vote by party...Romney is a sellout to the far right and Axlerod is going to hold him to what he said..

Wouldnt it be ironic if the Far Right picks a candidate further Left than Obama?
Rick Perry now seems to be a distant 2nd to Romney in beating Obama. As a resident of Massachusetts and a user of RomneyCare, I never knew Romney was a Conservative till he claimed so last election cycle. Id venture to say that not many in Massachusetts would call Romney a Conservative either.

If the Country is Center Right as Fox News says? Why dont Republicans run a Extreme Conservative?
I keep hearing Fox news and Republicans saying ... The country is moving to the right. The country is Center right.... My question to that is if thats truly the case, why do Far right Republican candidates always go down hard during the primaries? Michele Bachmann? Rick Perry? On top of that, their primary winners are always Centrist Republicans... John McCain.. Mitt Romney... Even Bush?? Seriously If its so Center right, moving to the Right.. Wouldnt they have a Extreme Conservative Front Runner? Instead of this Liberal Centrist turned " Severe Conservative"?
Answer: Because everything is better in moderation. Unless you're a Democrat, then you field the best change-Nazi your side has to offer.

Is Mitt Romney a better Choice than any of the real Far Right Conservative candidates in the race?
After last nights debate when Republicans heard the Far Left Immigration policies of Rick Perry and the huge amounts of illegals workers in Texas that were part of the "Texas Miracle", they seemed to now be backing Romney, at least here on Yahoo and most of what I see on Far Right blogs.
As a Resident of Massachusetts and a Liberal..I can tell you that many Democrats liked Romney. His record is much more like a Democrat than any Conservative that I know of. Almost everyone in Mass polled love RomneyCare.
While I am in favor of Obama, is Romney an acceptable choice for some Democrats? Once elected many think he would move to the Center, maybe even Left Center So isnt this better than a real Far Right Conservative?
I am a firm Obama voter and would prefer the furthest Right Candidate.
Answer: We'd best not show any enthusiasm for Romney else the Cons will give him the boot. Wouldn't it be a hoot having Republicans elect a Liberal.

Will the Christian right lose some power in the GOP?
Since 1980, the Christian right has had major influence in the Republican party. But they have had even more power since 2000 and during the George W. Bush era. Because while Reagan was able to bring them in as part of uniting the whole party, GWB has focused on them in many ways as his main electoral strategy. He focused on getting their votes in the primaries in 2000 and because of his appeal to this group has basically swept Middle America in both elections. After Bushs victory in 2004, there was much talk about the major power of these voters, how Democrats would have to learn to invoke faith if they wanted to win elections, and how the next Republican nominee would likely be in the Bush mold, a charismatic Southern candidate who can appeal to Middle Americans and the Christian right. This electoral strategy was working so they likely wanted to stick with it.
Early speculation focused on former Senator George Allen of Virginia, who would be a candidate in the Bush mold. But as Bushs popularity declined, other candidates less like Bush, McCain and Giuliani, began to get more attention. Allen was defeated in the 2006 election, eliminating him from consideration and leaving the GOP field without a pure conservative frontrunner. Giuliani and Romney had both been accused of flip-flopping and McCain had never been too popular with conservatives. That was really the point of Fred Thompson coming in theoretically, to be able to sweep this crucial voting bloc which was dissatisfied with the current candidates, but Christian right leaders seem unimpressed with Thompson, who also has problems with them because he lobbied for a pro-choice group once, and if he cant get these voters then the whole point of his candidacy has really failed and I think youll start to see his numbers drop pretty quick.
Whats interesting is that theyre not really lining up for another candidate, like Mike Huckabee or even Sam Brownback. They are both very socially conservative but they dont seem too enthusiastic about them, they have both been considered to have "nice" personalities and dont try to bring these issues up as a wedge issue as Bush often did. Perhaps they fear that if these issues arent sufficiently pushed that their voters wont be as encouraged to show up to the polls. But if you want to have "compassionate conservatism" as your message Huckabee would be the perfect candidate.
But the Republican party seems to have a real, genuine fear of Hillary Clinton becoming President and seem to be willing to move to the center to prevent her from winning. Still, by not supporting another candidate, the Christian right, oddly, seems to be ceding some power within the GOP, the Christian right has had plenty of influence since Reagan, but probably more power than ever under George W Bush because the Rove strategy really relied on those voters.
Answer: Yes. Mitt Romney is making it hard to garner votes because he is Mormon, Rudolph Giuliani is making it hard to garner votes because he is inexperienced and acts like some crazy football player in High School who is getting a lot of attention, and McCain has proven himself to be a racist when he made ridiculous comments about Obama, and Ron Paul is not ever going to get the nomination, Huckabee could be a possibility but they don't know what to do with him, and the rest of them are horrible with the exception of Thompson whom they know is going to put his foot down on ever turn the party makes.
They are not afraid of Rodham either, they know she doesn't have a chance of garnering enough of the electorate to win, it is Obama whom they are afraid of as he is garnering a substantial backing from McCain voters - believe it.

A Party of Factions Gathers, Seeking Consensus
TAMPA, Fla. -- Mitt Romney arrives here this week to accept his nomination from the increasingly disparate coalition of factions known as the Republican Party , confronting the challenge of unifying them behind him and -- should he win -- exerting his own authority over a party that is in many ways still forging a post-Bush identity. In interviews, - Mitt Romney, attending the Republican National Convention, will accept the presidential nomination from a party that is increasingly divided by factionalism since the emergence of the Tea Party three years ago; some old-guard Republican leaders worry that their partys turn toward contentious social issues, and its increasingly antigovernment stance, may be pushing it out of the political mainstream. Does Gingrich branding Mitt Romney as moderate help Romney attract independent voters in the general election?
Politicians always move to the center during the general election. The Primary gives the GOP a huge soap box for pushing their agenda. It also give the ability to market their candidate. Does the Republican National Committee believe that extending the primaries will help Romney more than it will hurt him by distancing him from the Tea Party and making him more attractive to independent voters?
Answer: We should ALL Be Voting for Moderates over Radical/Extremists.
I'm a Moderate Republican and I would vote for a Moderate Democrat before I'd vote for a Radical Conservative. Same in the other direction, I'd vote for a Moderate Republican before a Radical Isolationist or a Progressive.
It's all about division, Radicals Divide and only look out for the interest of the Small Percentage of the Population that feels as they do. Moderates are more in tune with the Vast Majority of Americans and will make policy that will Help the Most Americans.
Thanks for your question.

Now that Ryan is his VP pick, will Romney move towards the center?
..and appeal to the moderates? Any idea how hell do that? Maybe boost Romneycare?
Pundits have talked for months on how Romneys going to "pivot" once hes the GOP presumptive nominee.
Answer: He’s already trying to distance himself from the Ryan Plan, which is being protested by Catholic Nuns for being “immoral.”
Romney has absolutely no core. It’s amazing.

Isnt Romneys pick of Ryan as VP a move away from the political center?
Doesnt the Ryan Budget represent the most extreme conservative view, a call for dismantling both Social Security and Medicare? Is Romney doubling down to energize his base, at risk of losing the moderates?
Conservative Patriot, its the Republican creed that only conservatives can be "fiscally responsible" and only conservatives know how to handle money and run businesses. But that is just a myth.
Gil, then you are agreeing that the Ryan pick as VP is a move away from the center, since youve made it plain that you need to hold your nose if Romney is anywhere near it.
Conservative Patriot, go consult some real numbers and see if you still draw the same conclusion:
http://www.skymachines.com/US-National-Debt-Per-Capita-Percent-of-GDP-and-by-Presidental-Term.htm
As usual, because you are the "conservative", you are "therefore the financial expert". This is just a myth that needs to be demolished.
Answer: It is a move away from the moderates and the political center.
However, the conservative movement in the USA is so strong and influential, that the entire country has moved to the right over the last 40 years. The USA is very much a right wing country at this point. Even Obama and Clinton are and were the most conservative democratic presidents we ever had. Clinton signed NAFTA, which is a very right wing bill, and Obama signed the PPAC Act which is based on a right wing health care proposal.
This move doesn't surprise me. Moderates in this country are being pressured to be more right wing all the time. And people on the left are really people who would be center right on the world stage.
This all bodes poorly for the USA. We cannot continue to move politically and ideologically to the right wing. It will be the doom of us. We need more balance.
