Who do you believe about the Economy, Obama or Economists ?
Subprime Market caused this mess. Bill Clintons doing !
But it was the Clinton administration, obsessed with multiculturalism, that dictated where mortgage lenders could lend, and originally helped create the market for the high-risk subprime loans now infecting like a retrovirus the balance sheets of many of Wall Streets most revered institutions.
Tough new regulations forced lenders into high-risk areas where they had no choice but to lower lending standards to make the loans that sound business practices had previously guarded against making. It was either that or face stiff government penalties.
The untold story in this whole national crisis is that President Clinton put on steroids the Community Redevelopment Act, a well-intended Carter-era law designed to encourage minority homeownership. And in so doing, he helped create the market for the risky subprime loans that he and Democrats now decry as not only greedy but "predatory."
BUSH Tried to fix Fannie / Freddie -- DEMS blocked it!
President Bush tried to reform Fannie and Freddie in 2004 but was rebuffed. A Democrat-led Congress, with some help from weak GOP members, has made repeated mistakes in turning our world-class financial system into an over-regulated, politicized piggy bank for Democratic causes and candidates (see editorial above).
Virtually all the mistakes have been caused by errors in regulation — not by "corporate greed," as liberal Democrats would have it. Corporations follow the signals and guidelines set by Washington. When those are faulty, bad things happen and taxpayers pay.
Remember this, too, when Congress cranks up hearings and vilifies one CEO after another for "looting" their companies. It was Congress that created the subprime crisis. Any promises that it makes to solve it should be viewed with serious skepticism.

Joe,
The reason the loans became "easy" to get was a direct result of the regulations put in by Clinton.
They HAD to make loans in these markets to avoid fines, and to stay within regulations, they HAD to make the loans easier to get.
I provided the economists view, because all you will get on mainstream media is Obama and the Dems blaming Bush.
Trendy perhaps, but not truthful
Im very sorry that the truth causes such difficulty for you.
If you are at least curious about the truth, google it. It is out there.
Answer: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally someone with actual facts and history is on your side with your question. It appears that Clinton's legacy is coming apart at the seams. Justice is served.
And its funny how the Dems shift the blame unto Bush. In 2003 Bush did try to fix this upcoming problem. But the dems got in the way.
Oh yes to answer you. The economist. because history is on our side. Category: Politics

Do people on here not realize that Obama was NOT a member of the senate when the patriot act was voted on?
People on here claiming that he flip flopped,HOWEVER he did not say that...Hillary clinton accused him of it during the 2008 debate..
ONLY ONE PROBLEM
First as a point of clarity, Barack Obama was not a member of the United States Senate in 2001, and did not vote on the original PATRIOT Act. Senators Hillary Clinton and John Edwards, however, both voted in favor of it.
Second, Obama joined a filibuster that blocked a reauthorization of the PATRIOT Act, which would have made permanent 14 of the 16 original PATRIOT Act provisions.
Third, Clinton herself voted for the same bill she is now criticizing Barack Obama for supporting.
Fourth, Obama supported a separate act (the SAFE Act) that would have contained broader checks and balances than the original PATRIOT Act.
Fifth, Obama said the following when he ultimately supported a compromise act (the one Clinton is now criticizing him for supporting):
Direct quote from Obama
Let me be clear: this compromise is not as good as the Senate version of the bill, nor is it as good as the SAFE Act that I have cosponsored. I suspect the vast majority of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle feel the same way. But, its still better than what the House originally proposed.
This compromise does modestly improve the PATRIOT Act by strengthening civil liberties protections without sacrificing the tools that law enforcement needs to keep us safe.
In this compromise:
We strengthened judicial review of both national security letters, the administrative subpoenas used by the FBI, and Section 215 orders, which can be used to obtain medical, financial and other personal records.
We established hard-time limits on sneak-and-peak searches and limits on roving wiretaps.
We protected most libraries from being subject to national security letters.
We preserved an individuals right to seek counsel and hire an attorney without fearing the FBIs wrath.
And we allowed judicial review of the gag orders that accompany Section 215 searches. The compromise is far from perfect.
I would have liked to see stronger judicial review of national security letters and shorter time limits on sneak and peak searches, among other things.
Senator Feingold has proposed several sensible amendments--that I support--to address these issues. Unfortunately, the Majority Leader is preventing Senator Feingold from offering these amendments through procedural tactics. That is regrettable because it flies in the face of the bipartisan cooperation that allowed the Senate to pass unanimously its version of the Patriot Act--a version that balanced security and civil liberty, partisanship and patriotism.
If Clinton was arguing that Obama should have fought for a tougher compromise, or should have worked in more safeguards for civil liberties, that would be a real issue worth discussing. But thats not what shes arguing (if that were her argument, then it would apply with equal force to herself - she was, after all, a Senator who voted in favor of both the original and the compromise acts). Instead, this really appears to be either a criticism for "flip-flopping" or for talking too big a game. But if thats what this is, then thats clearly a misplaced criticism.
WOW Barney are you not aware of the difference betwen state senator and US senator??
A State Senator represents the people in his district in the
STATE LEGISLATURE. Theyt handle issues pretaining to
that state and his particular district. For instance how long
must the Public Schools in that state be open each year.
A States 2 United States Senators represent the entire
state, at-large, on matters which involve not just the state but
the whole USA on the Federal, National, Government level.
Obama was not a us senator till 2004
How would I know,Can you give me 1 link that shows he said that?? NOT a link where Clinton ACCUSES him of that??

Ms Giffords, a Democrat, is proud of her south-western roots, professing her love of trucks and motorcycles. She has served as co-chair of the motorcycle caucus on Capitol Hill.
One of her first acts in Congress was to push for a national day in recognition of cowboys. She is also a gun owner.
Ms Giffords began her career working for the family tyre company after her father fell ill. At the time she was a registered Republican with no political ambitions.
She sold the business before running for state office.
Blue Dog
Ms Giffords is considered a rising star in the Democratic Party. The New York Times predicted that she would one day run for Arizonas governorship.
Robert Reich, who served as President Clintons labor secretary in the 1990s, once told the Arizona Republic newspaper that she could run for the highest office in the land.
"I wouldnt be surprised if shes the first or second female president of the United States. Shes of that caliber," he said.
Politically, Ms Giffords is a centrist, as are most Democrats from her state.
She is part of the blue dog caucus in the House of Representatives, a group of fiscally conservative, moderate Democrats.
She upset Arizona conservatives by support President Obamas health-care reform bill, a move which landed her on Sarah Palins list of politicians to remove from office in the midterms last November.
She faced a tough challenge from a tea-party candidate, Jesse Kelly, but won by a narrow margin of just 4,000 votes.
Although she voted against President Bushs economic bailout bill in 2008 - the bill ultimately failed - she voted for President Obamas American Recovery and Reinvestment Act the following year.
Ms Giffords is passionate about military issues and served on the Armed Services Committee. Military contractors are a big employer in her district.
She has been deeply engaged in military issues, helping craft the GI bill which assists veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflict obtaining college degrees.
Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, said she was "a huge voice for veterans and the military".
During the last Congress she chaired the space and aeronautics committee. Her brother-in-law is also an astronaut who is currently in space.
