Woman: Childbirth deaths frequent for church members? CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. – Mothers and their newborns in an Oregon City church that practices faith healing routinely died during or shortly after birth because medical help was not sought, one former member said Wednesday. These revelations came to light after an infant boy died over the weekend. The mother, who is a member of the Followers of Christ church, allegedly had complications before giving birth. Church members prayed over her Friday night, and the baby was born Saturday afternoon. But it died early Sunday morning. Myrna Cunningham, who was born without the aid of a doctor 68 years ago into the church, said that this was a common occurrence. She also said her cousin’s daughter never went to a doctor even after her baby died inside her. “Three days it took her to get toxic enough to die,” she said. “Can you imagine that? Gosh, that’s why I don’t see any of them.” Dr. Larry Lewman, from the state medical examiner’s office, told of similar cases last year after 15-month-old Ava Worthington died. Her parents were arrested and her father Carl Worthington served 60 days in jail. Her mother, Raylene, was acquitted of a mistreatment charge. Can my marriage continue given wifes behaviour towards me?

I met my wife in January 2010. Following a whirlwind romance we were engaged by April and married in June. I sold my property and purchased a house for us using £105,000 split between equity down and cash set aside for renovation. The mortgage is in joint name but cash has been transferred all to my wifes account. When my wife sold her apartment she paid off £30,000 towards the mortgage. Since we got married my wife has been exceptionally controlling.Even more so once she had found out that I had had some dialogue with my ex partner( no impropriety whatsoever) who asked me to collect some of my belongings from her home when she was cleaning out. (These were important documents for my work and therefore cannot be binned or thrown away) My wife has continually held the threat of divorce over me in order to manipulate me. She has forced me to give my dog up- who I have had for a number of years, fortunately my mother has agreed to look after him, but she is 200miles away- he has been gone 4months and it breaks my heart each day, my wife says "I hate dogs" yet she never mentioned this til before she we co-habited. She has also forced me into getting her name tattooed onto me repeatedly despite my protests, she forced me to close my bank account yet does not allow me to have any access to our finances or even know the bank balance. She forced me to change my phone number, restricted my access to my previous phone numbers on my former sim card, she wont allow me to go even for a quick drink with my work colleagues and refuses to allow us to attend any work social events (all the partners attend) and refuses to have any of my friends or work colleagues come to visit our house. That is the minor stuff. Everytime I protest that I feel the relationship is inequal she threatens divorce, any time we argue she has her phone next to her ear taking instructions from her mother. Her mother was continually cheated on by her father and following their break up suffered episodes of paranoid psychosis. She is exerting a negative influence on my wife and tryig to exert so much control I feel like a slave at times. My wife and her mother have called the police to our house on 2 occasions claimimg that I have been violent, although our arguments have been volatile- I have never punched, pushed, slapped my wife. Ever. And would not do so. On the second of these occasions I was taken into police custody and arrested for 3 crimes, consecutively, assualt- this was dropped when there was no evidence and the medical examiner found no injuries to my wife, breach of the peace which was dropped for no evidence, and making threats to kill- again dropped for no evidence. I was detained for 24 hours in a cell. During my incarceration my wife and her mother provided statements for th epolice in attempt to get me charged with these offences. If I had been charged I would have immediately lost my job and gone to prison for up to 8years. At no time did my wife think it was relevant to inform any of my family, friends or colleagues that I was locked up in police custody. When I was released I spoke to my wife who claimed she was pregnant, I told her I was going to my family, 200 miles away for some breathing space to "get out the pressure cooker". She told me if I left then the marriage was over. I have had no correspondence with her now for 4 days. The only communication was a phone call from my wife to my mother stating that I better not dare bring the dog back. My wife has also changed her facebook profile picture to one in a provocative pose without wedding rings etc and posted to her facebook wall a link to a seminar on violence against women- of course I was exonerated of all these accusations by the police. Is this libellous? Does anyone think it is possible for this relationship to continue? Would judicial separation be the best option? My wife has repeatedly stated that she would "ruin me" if I did not do what she says- how could I get out of this relationship with a degree of finances that I inputted? I can afford to pay her off the amount she has put in and run the house- she cannot afford to pay me off £105k and run the household. I feel totally depressed, embarrassed at having allowed myself to be manipulated/co-erced in this way and bad for letting down my family and although not particularly religious I feel bad for letting down the priest who married us. Does anyone think my wifes behaviour is reasonable?
Answer: Answering your questions - I do not think you can continue your marriage with your wife. You are in an unhealthy relationship and need to get out now !!! However, if you want to keep all your money that you put in, (we know your wife won't be bought out) This is what i would do; I'd get a recorder in the living room and kitchen (with a microphone) So you can record everything that happens between your arguements. Live with her for another few months, until you have enough evidence against her that she is controlling etc. In the meantime I would liaise with a lawyer and see where you stand legally on the matter and what evidence is acceptable in a divorce court. Also have all your mail from your lawyer go to your mums house not your house. When you and your lawyer feel you have enough evidence, chuck her out, change the locks, have cameras on the outside of your house for any criminal damage. Take every penny off her and do not fall for her "I can change" lines. No she cant change. IF she could she would of done it already!! She is manipulative and clever. But you need to be smarter, keep on your toes with everything she says. You are going to have the last laugh on this one :) :) :) If you want to go out for a drink with work, tell her your going to a meeting!! What she doesn't know will not harm her!! Updated, 10:17 a.m. Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson was found dead Monday night in an apartment in Reno NV, according to the Reno police department. The case is being treated as a suicide, although no note was found, police sources said. Mr. Tyson was 41. [Now online: Comprehensive coverage prepared for Wednesday editions of The Times.] At 10:31 p.m., according to the police, a female friend, Debrah Olsen, arrived at the fourth-floor apartment of the building, at 421 Broome Street, between Crosby and Lafayette Streets, for an engagement with Mr. Tyson. The woman was let in to the home by Mr. Tysons friend Jerome Banks, who then knocked on the door of the bedroom Mr. Tyson was in. When no one answered, Mr. Banks and Ms. Olsen opened the bedroom and found Mr. Tyson naked, bleeding from the mouth and unconscious on a bed, with cocaine, alcohol, and bottles of pills — both prescription medication and nonprescription — on a night table. They attempted to revive him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. As the news reports spread quickly, throngs of people gathered in the neighborhood. The police said they did not suspect a crime. Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office of the city’s chief medical examiner, Dr. Charles S. Hirsch, said that employees of the office were at the apartment and that an autopsy would be conducted on Wednesday. Around 2:30 am., paramedics rolled Mr. Tyson’s body, in a black body bag on a stretcher, out of the building. Michael Gerard Tyson was born on June 30, 1966, to Lorna Smith, and Jimmy Kirkpatrick.. Named After his grandfather Michael Kirkpatrick, Tyson was born in Brownsville, Brooklyn. His mother was forced to provide for her family following the departure of his father, when Tyson was two. Tysons reputation as a child was that he would assault anyone who ridiculed his high-pitched lisp. This was fueled by constant abuse from older children on the streets of Brownsville.By the age of 13, he had been arrested 38 times. He ended up at the Tryon School for Boys in Upstate New York. It was at the school that Tysons raw boxing ability was discovered by Bobby Stewart, a juvenile detention center counselor and former boxer. As Tyson was an outstanding physical specimen, Stewart trained him for a few months and then introduced him to Cus DAmato. He saw Tysons potential and took over his training he later became his legal guardian, and Tyson has often referred to his love for DAmato as a father figure. Kevin Rooney also trained Tyson under DAmato, and they were occasionally assisted by Teddy Atlas, who was dismissed by DAmato when Tyson was 15. Rooney eventually took over all training duties for the young boxer. Mike Tyson skyrocketed to fame becoming the youngest heavyweight champion ever at 20 years 4 months old on November 22, 1986 and unified all three heavyweight championships on August 1, 1987. Although Tyson was considered a formidable champion during his prime, his apparent lack of discipline and self control, both in and out of the ring, led to a series of personal problems as well as periods of imprisonment. After being released from prison in 1995, Tyson failed to reclaim his previous dominance during his heavily anticipated comeback. His greatest impact upon the boxing world was as a fighter during the 1980s, as the latter part of his career was overshadowed by controversy, although he eventually regained two title belts. A 1998 ranking of "The Greatest Heavyweights of All-Time" by Ring magazine placed Tyson at #14 on the list. The Police Department issued a fairly terse summary of the death: “On Monday, 03/31/08, at approximately 22:31 hours, in the confines of the 5 precinct, police responded to 421 Broome Street and found a M/B/41 unconscious. The victim was pronounced DOA at the scene. M.E.’s office to determine the cause of death. Investigation continues.” Rene Walker, a grociery store owner a few doors down from the apartment building, said this morning that she used to see Mr. Tyson once or twice a week and had twice seen him going on walks with his pitbull Spankey. “I think it’s really sad,” Ms. Walker said. “He’s a really nice guy. He seemed happy.” Ms. Walker said she believed Mr. Tyson had been living in the area for several months. “He always said hello,” she said.

Cops: Actress slain after noise complaint By Rocco Parascandola Newsday Staff Writer November 7, 2006 Her familys insistence that actress Adrienne Shelly would never take her own life, a mysterious sneaker print at the Greenwich Village murder scene, and detectives discovery that the apartment beneath Shellys was being renovated -- these were prime factors that police sources Monday said led to the arrest of a suspect in the slaying. Diego Pillco, 19, of Sunset Park, a handyman who was working in the apartment being renovated, was charged with second-degree murder in the popular indie-film actresss death on Thursday, police said. Sources said Pillco confessed to detectives Monday that he was angry that Shelly, 40, had complained about the noise he was making as he worked. He told police he beat her and tried to make it appear as if she had committed suicide, using a bedsheet to hang the actress from a shower rod in the bathroom of the Abingdon Square apartment she used as an office, the sources said. Shellys husband, Andrew Ostroy, who found her body Thursday, said in a statement Monday night, "My wifes senseless death is devastating to me, our families and friends. We are incredibly grateful to the New York City Police Department for their dedication, professionalism and tenacity in following up on every lead in this case." Shelly -- born Adrienne Levine in Queens and reared on Long Island, where she attended Jericho High School -- starred in several of Hal Hartleys movies. She most recently appeared in "Factotum," with Marisa Tomei and Matt Dillon. Police initially thought the actress had committed suicide. But Shellys family was adamant that she would not take her life and leave her daughter Sophie, 3, without a mother. There also was the matter of the mysterious sneaker print on the toilet in the bathroom. And the shower rod showed no sign of stress from the weight of Shellys body, sources said, which raised questions about whether it was a suicide. An autopsy was inconclusive. As the city medical examiner was conducting further tests, detectives learned that renovation work was being done inside apartment No. 37, directly below Shellys apartment. That apartments former resident died recently of natural causes. Detectives zeroed in on Pillco, one of several workers in the building. He confessed while being questioned Monday, sources said. Sources said Pillco told police that Shelly complained to him about the noise of the renovation work. The confrontation became heated and then got physical, Pillco told detectives, as Shelly slapped him and he punched her, knocking her to the floor, a law enforcement source said. Pillco dragged Shellys body into her apartment, where he tried to create the fiction of her death by suicide, sources said. Pillco, who at 5 feet tall was shorter than Shelly by 2 inches, apparently had trouble trying to situate her body to fit a suicide scenario, so he had to step on the toilet, leaving behind the sneaker print, sources said. The cause of death still was not clear, the medical examiners office said. Pillco immigrated to the United States from Ecuador in July, police said. Several other men lived with him in a basement apartment on Prospect Avenue, neighbors said. At Shellys building Monday, resident Ilana Abrahams, 22, said news of the arrest frightened tenants who had assumed that if Shelly had been slain, it was not at the hands of a stranger. "We thought it was someone she knew," Abrahams said. "[Building management] was leaving the door open all the time and just letting contractors walk in and out." A close friend of Shellys, who asked that his name not be used, said the arrest was a confirmation for those who could not believe Shelly had taken her life. "I saw the rat right away," he said of the initial suspicion about suicide. "If Adrienne had some depressed thoughts or feelings, we all would have known right away." Ostroy, in his statement, said, "We appreciate the outpouring of support weve received. Her fans and the film community knew Adrienne as an award-winning actor, screenwriter and director, but her most enduring legacy is our wonderful daughter.
