How do you purchase a Powerball ticket?

Im about to turn 18. When you walk into a place that sells lottery tickets, like 7-eleven, do you walk up to the cashier? What do you say? How do you pick your numbers?
Answer: 1. Walk into the place that sells tickets. A 7-11, pretty much any gas stations, and a lot of large grocery stores sell lottery tickets. 2. You have 2 options. You can walk up to the cashier and ask for a quick pick ticket/tickets for Powerball. The lottery computer will then randomly pick your numbers for you. The second option is to pick your own numbers. In the store there will probably be a stand with a Powerball/Mega Million sign and there will be slips where you can fill out. If you can't find them ask the cashier. Now on the slips you choose 5 numbers between 1-59 and 1 number between 1-35. You will shade the circles next to the number/numbers you want with a pencil, just like a multiple choice test from school. Then you take the slip to the cashier and he/she will print out of your ticket. 3. Powerball has their drawing every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 P.M. Eastern time. The drawing should be on one of your local channels, if you live in the Eastern or Central time zone look for it before the local news. If not still look for it on a local channel before the next show starts. There is a chance if you live out west that the drawing will be shown a few hours later which will be a tape obviously. You can also get the numbers a few hours after the drawing on the Powerball website or your states lottery website. Sometimes googling the winning numbers for the drawing date will get you the numbers faster then they are posted on the lottery sites if you are in a hurry. You can also take the ticket/tickets to a store that sells lotto tickets and the clerk will check your tickets for you but I would check them out yourself online or by watching the live drawing. If you win $600 or less you can claim your prize anywhere that sells tickets, if you win over $600 you have to claim the prize at one of the lottery offices in your state.

I was just wondering what type of system or processes do people use to pick lottery and Powerball numbers? The places I go to sell these little books and I wanted to know what these books were and how did they work?
Answer: How do most people pick numbers? Either randomly with pick'em tickets, or by picking numbers that have come up more often in the past (information on this is usually available in many places), or by picking "lucky" numbers, such as 7 or 11, or birthdays, or such. How should YOU pick numbers, to maximize your odds? Try to pick numbers that other people are unlikely to pick. Why? In most lotteries, if multiple people hit the jackpot they will split the winnings, so it's to your advantage to be the only person holding a ticket with whatever specific combination of numbers you chose. The best way to manage that is to avoid the most commonly chosen numbers, which are the ones most often viewed as "lucky." Of course if you're going to be this analytical about the lottery, you should also keep in mind that most lotteries only pay out about 20 to 40 cents on the dollar, so you'd be better off going with a more profitable (or at least less unprofitable) form of gambling such as blackjack, or poker. But, if you really want that shot at the huge jackpot, at least try to make sure your numbers are unique so that you get to keep it all if you win! Since the numbers that are chosen are chosen randomly, this is the only way you can do anything to benefit yourself when choosing your numbers, since there's no way to change your actual odds of winning through your choices.

How exactly is the PowerBall played?

I go to a retailer like a gas station, and then what? I know its more complicated than just buying a ticket, but how exactly does it work? Because on the powerball site it said something about picking numbers and crap, sounded like I had to cooperate with the cashier or something
Answer: You go to a gas station or anywhere else that sells Powerball tickets. Then you have 2 options, you can have the lottery computer pick your numbers for you which is called the Quick Pick option which the cashier will do for you or in the store/place that sells tickets there are slips where you can choose your own numbers and then you give the slip to the cashier who will run it through the computer to print out your ticket. After you buy your ticket/tickets you can watch the drawing on TV, you could check the results online a few hours after the drawing, or you can return to a place that sells tickets and they will run the ticket through the computer to see if you are a winner. The drawings take place at 10:59 P.M. Eastern time every Wednesday and Saturday. If you are on most of the West coast it's unlikely they will have the drawing on live TV but everywhere else it usually comes on one of the local channels right before the local news. If you win any of the top 3 amounts ($10,000, a Million dollars, or Jackpot) then you will have to claim your prize at one of your states lottery offices, any other prizes can be collected anywhere that sells tickets. Also anywhere along Saint Charles Avenue from Canal to Lee Circle, except for the Endymion Parade (on Saturday). Endymion rolls on Canal Street from mid-city and not on Saint Charles from uptown. Answer: First off, no lottery in the world will make you a billionaire. At least not in any currency where having a billion of it is especially impressive. And secondly, it would depend which lottery you were playing. If you are talking one of the big two in America (Powerball and Mega Millions) the scary thing is that even if you purchased $400,000 tickets, you would not really have an amazing chance of winning. The odds are now running at 195m-1. So I'd say you would not even be getting a 0.5% chance of winning. You'd invest your life savings for less than a 1 in 200 chance of winning. The other problem is logistics. If you could purchase an average of 10 tickets a minute, it would still take you 28 days to buy all 400,000 tickets. Clearly that would not be quick enough to get all the tickets in on a single draw, and that would lower your odds even more. Bottom line, few people are going to take such a huge risk with such a large sum of money.
