What are good topics for a long research paper for a Gender Studies class?
I am really stumped because a lot of the good choices are already taken. I need some help finding a topic that provides research. i need studies done on the topic. help please?
Answer: Rights v Privileges - a study on the realities of the current surge for Rights.
Ignore foreign countries - there are more than enough troubles at home - and the world will soon be closing down and Fatima will be left ot her own devices again. That may be sad, but it is true.
The field I've offered is fairly unploughed - not much reality has intruded there for a long time due to de facto censoring of real issues and bullying as a means of pushing things instead of informed reason.
EDITS:- A US Staff College group of field rank officers (Major+) and made up of about 40% women, decided that women should not serve in direct combat units. Not the difference betwen 'combat' units and 'direct combat units'. Intelligence section in a combat division is not the same as hand-to-hand grunt. You may consider this a fine line - grunts do not.

why are democrats and hillary clinton not fighting for women to be included in selective service?
Some people who are liberals feel like it is time for a woman to take control of this nation. However why arent alot of these same people complaining that selective service is unfair to take just men if the they claim their goal is to get equality for women. If we can both vote, receive financial aid and federal benefits, enlist in the army voluntarily, and run for office why arent we both forced to sign up for selective service?
Answer: Hillary Clinton, and other Democratic candidates, have already come out and stated that women should be included in selective service. They aren't making a big issue out of it, or mounting a big push for it, but they have been clear about their stands on it:
The candidates gathered in Charleston, S.C., for a unique CNN/YouTube debate that showcased prerecorded, submitted questions from voters. One of those dealt with whether women should register.
"We've had combat deaths of women in Iraq and Afghanistan," Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York said. "And I do think that women should register. I doubt very much that we'll ever have to go back to a draft. But I think it is fair to call upon every young American."
She added, though, that she's opposed to the draft.
Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) agreed.
"I think that if women are registered for service -- not necessarily in combat roles, and I don't agree with the draft -- I think it will help to send a message to my two daughters that they've got obligations to this great country as well as boys do," he said.
Former Sen. John Edwards didn't answer the question directly but pointed to a woman in the audience, sitting next to his wife, who flew combat missions over Baghdad. "Anybody who has any question about whether women can serve courageously and honorably" should go see her, he said.
Sen. Christopher Dodd (Conn.) said he opposed the draft but added, "[I]f you're going to have registration, it ought to be across [gender] lines; you don't just ask one gender to ... have the responsibility. So in my view that would be the fair thing to do."

How does a change in a countries gender structure lead to women having a lower status?
I dont understand how an in-balance in the male female ratio can effect a womens status in ledcs where the male ratio is higher .
I understand that male babies are more desirable in countries such as china due to the one child policy , i dont see how this effects womens status though , lower status meaning women have less education opportunities and so on ...
Thanks for your help :)
Answer: The Chinese government has already implemented exceptions to the one child policy in order to combat gender-bias (and the policy does NOT prohibit one child per family, it merely states the government will provide free welfare for one child per family, a family can have as many children as they want, they just have to foot the bills themselves).
Pre-birth scans to identify the gender of the baby is prohibited.
Families with girl as the first child can receive free welfare for a second child.
Twins and triplets, are of course, well accepted.
Ethnic minorities are exempt from the policy
Where the parents are both single-child the family can receive free welfare for a second child, regardless of the gender of the first child.
And if go visit China, you'd see
1 - the gender ratio in China is nowhere as bloated as the media portrays, China's imbalance is only slightly higher than the rest of the world, EVERY country has a gender imbalance. And
2 - women in China doesn't have a lower status, like in EVERY other country in the world women are paid slightly lower than men (unfair, but see if America change this first). In most families women actually dominate over men (the men will never admit it in public, saving their faces and all). Most Chinese women are professionals who are NOT bound by the roles of housewives - some American women hold the belief after giving birth their ONLY priority is to their children, whereas Chinese women nowadays say scrap that, professional pursuits doesn't affect motherhood or their devotion to the family in any way.
So do you see now? Chinese women are actually way more liberal than most western families, partially because of social pressure and the fact in order for the family to get anywhere, women have to work as much as men, so men are not confined to being the breadwinners and the women are not confined to being obedient housewives.
It's honestly quite funny to see the media trying to assert that China is still a communist state dominated by men - that is a joke on humongous scales, really love it when I see they try to talk about things to which they have no ideas about. If they want to make themselves believe they are still superior, hey, let them dream.

Will the military send you into war if you have a child?
My husband says that he knows of other women who were ALREADY in the military who had gotten pregnant and didnt have to fight, they had gotten desk jobs. I have a 2 month old at home, the militarys benefits for a spouse and children are attractive, but id be crazy now to go and fight overseas in a war with a newborn. I have a degree as a paralegal, and would like to work in thier legal departments. Im not part of the military now, is there a way i can join without going into battle?
Answer: you will deploy when and where you are sent, period. family status means nothing. Fathers and mothers have been sent into harm's way since the beginning. EVERY JOB has the potential to deployed to a combat zone . EVERY job.

Who was the most important women in WW1 for England on the front line?
I would like to know who the names of women are from WW1 who was on the front line that changed society for us
Answer: The only woman soldier enlisted in the British Army managed the feat by passing herself off as a man. Dorothy Lawrence, a 20-year-old ambitious journalist, joined in 1915 the B.E.F. Tunnelling Company using the alias Denis Smith, aided by some sympathetic men. She gave herself in after only 10 days worried about the safety of these men and had to endure an absurd interrogatory, as the authorities assumed she was a 'camp follower', that is to say, a prostitute, a term she misunderstood.
While she was forced to keep her adventure silent, as the British Army very much feared the ridicule it would plunge them into, another Englishwoman, Flora Sandes, published a book on her experiences as a soldier in the Serbian Army in 1916, with a view to raising funds for her brothers in arms. Sandes was initially an ambulance driver on the Eastern Front but managed to enlist with the Serbs, who by 1916 had already promoted her to sergeant-major. She stayed on after the war with the Serbian army eventually becoming a major.
Supposedly, Sandes was accepted by the Serbs as the personification of British war aid, a symbolic value also attached though in another sense to no doubt the most famous female combatant of the Great War: the Russian Maria Bochkareva. A soldier in the Army since 1914, wounded and decorated several times, Bochkareva convinced the revolutionary leader Alexander Kerensky in 1917 that a battalion made exclusively of women would shame men grown diffident about the war into fighting.
She recruited 2,000 women out of which about 250 saw actual combat on the Austrian Front fighting together with units of male soldiers. In contrast, the Cossack Maria Yurlova, active in Armenia against the Turkish Army, saw her participation in the war rather as an adventure, though it cost her in the end a severe breakdown.

Can women be Navy Corpsman on the battlefield?
Someone close to me was shot and killed in Iraq, and I want to make a difference. I already want to be a medical specialist, but I want to be immediately useful to those who are injured. Is it possible to be a battlefield Navy Corpsman?
Answer: FMF Corpsmen can be women. I have been in enough non-infantry battalions to know this and have worked with female Corpsmen. And yes they even go outside the wire when we sent out convoys or recovery missions. And I even know at least one with a combat action ribbon. So yes female Navy Corpsman can be on the "battlefield" you just won't be with an infantry battalion. And depending on your unit you may or may not ever leave the wire if you get deployed.

Why do some women want to join the marines and special forces in combat roles?
I have come to accept males are much stronger and faster than women and I dont think women should be in combat roles in the marines or special forces. I dont think any woman could handle it since the military already takes the strongest and most fit men for the special forces.
Looking at it realistically, since the special forces only take the best, I dont think there is any female that would make it. The strongest men will easily beat out the strongest women.
Answer: since the dawn of mankind, men have been soldiers. why you ask? who else is gonna run the country during war? women are generally smarter than men, but lack the physical traits that most men have. sure some women are better than most men, but whats that 1% of all women? women Just don't belong in combat, on the front lines or in special forces. to a child what hurts more losing a dad or a mom? usually its the mom. women are more of a sociably nurturing type of animal. men are predators they provide the whole community or family with food and protection. hence why man was created with tougher bones, and is generally fatter. due to this men usually can lift more in most cases. women want to join in combat roles because they are just idiots or feminists. they don't love their country. if they did then they would be happy with there highly sexist MEDICAL JOBS. i mean come on the women fill the roles of truck drivers, surgeons and mechanics. i mean military wise that's what majority of them are good for. they want to be special forces because they think they can just as good as any man. i say a combat job and the role of a soldier is a mens thing. a women can be anything she applies herself too. yes that's true but look is she going to be able to smash someone skull in with her gun better than a male? its just how humans were made. men are bigger for a reason. reasons why women are unfit for combat- (this is all women together, there are few who are blood thirsty fighters, but women overall cannot achieve the role of a soldier.
----------------------------------
1. women if captured by a foreign enemy are almost always raped.
2.women can get pregnant form this rape and her and the babys life can be ransomed as a scandal that releases public outcry.
3. men are generally physically stronger.
4. relationships will and cannot happen on the frontlines of a war.
5. if women were on the frontlines and some girls bf gets his brains blown out, shes not fighting and goes nut, because the lovve of her life is dead. that hurts the unit. the same goes for the gf dying too.
6.men have been proven to be able to take more damge, due to tougher bones. womens bones are generally smaller and more delicate.
7.testesterone is what makes muscle mass. men have 50 times of it more than women
8. men have a higher endurance rate.
9. if d-day happened with both men and women there would be no baby boom. if you send a and draft both sexes to a a bad war, that destroys that whole generation of people, hurting the country.
10. men can carry more
11. women can get periods during a battle
12. if the women is devastated she may get rage.
13. men have been proven to be able to take combat stress better.
14. if women were excellent warriors they would have been holding those heavy swords and shields 1000's of years ago fighting.
15. if you feminists say women are just as stong as men, and that women are very fragile and must be protected is a lie, then why is it a saying to even begin with?
16. seeing men can generally carry more, they can run faster with heavy equipment.
17. the pentagon has a law to ban women form combat, so hah feminists i have the GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO BACK ME UP.
18. women if they want to get out of terrible combat can get themselves pregnant and get out of the unit hurting it severly.
19. feminists dont see it as a rule provided so we have a better military. no no no they think its agaisnt equal equality. i would rather have a good military than a fair one.
20. men have been proven to be more combat effective and have a little built in program in there head. thats why most violent murders are done by men. men have a killing mentality, when they hate an enemy.
again war isnt about equality, its about protecting your country. the best rules must be enforced. which is why women arent in combat. women only fight when its a matter of self defence. to think mothers could go into the military. if women are so so equal to men, and there is not difference, then why do men and women exist? if this feminist idea is real then why are men more bulky? because women are valuable assests that help our troops fight wars. thats how its always been in this little fucked up wotld of ours and trhats how it will always be.
just my 2 cents.
if you are a person with similar ideas and you are a smart upstanding american woman, then check out
http://www.cmrlink.org/
smart women with ideas like mine. hell even some officer females agree that women shouldnt be in combat at all!
trust me. its a whole power thing. women feel that they are not as equal to men so to make up for it they try to be better. thats what you call a stupid kid.
ohh and btw i just talked to an old marine who was in okinawa, and iwo jima and a handful of battles, who had been shot 2 twice and had killed many men. and when i asked him do you think women should be on the frontline he said to me, women should be clerical and no uniformed. and those are just the words that i recieved from an old marine who fought for our freedoms.

Should women be allowed to serve in combat and should they be required to sign up for selective service?
(like men are)and be susceptible to the draft.
What exactly does equality mean, does it mean that women and men are different to the extent that women should have equal rights but less civic responsibilities than men or does it mean that before the law, men and women are indistinguishable from one another and therefor have the same rights and the same responsibilities.
And how does the military get away with discriminating against women who desire to take up arms in defense of their country.
Is womens blood any less red than a mans??
equality is great, true equality is even better!
Answer: Women should not be required to participate in the National Selective Service until women are not discriminated against in the military and locked-out of especially leadership. Active-duty military women are fighting lock-outs. I am 100% against men having to participate in the NSS, also. It's not needed. The military does not want a draft because it lowers the standards. It just makes you wonder 35 years after the end of the draft what exactly the government wants to "register" young men for. It's a violation of their rights. As for combat, women are already in numerous combat fields, including fighter jet pilot and battleships, for example. Women have ALWAYS been in combat positions throughout history but not awarded rank, benefits or recognition. Organizations of active duty females and veterans are increasingly bringing greater awareness about the historical but hidden role women have played in the military. As for combat positions, very few MALE soldiers are in combat positions. The vast majority of service personnel are in support positions. If a female qualifies and wants to be in a combat position, why not? Eighty percent of war victims today, killed, left homeless, raped, etc, afterall, are women, due to urbanization of warfare. It's not exactly like men are "protecting" women in war. At least mass rape has been finally made a war crime.

Answer: More than likely yes. I went to recruiting school back in the late 80's and we were told then that the male population was declining. So they were ever then looking into opening more things to women. Men since mid 70's have had to sign up for selective service not that they are going to bring back the draft but to have some kind of record of the male population thus giving more merit to women doing things now and soon. There has been major changes already and more are going to take place after this election in November or when the new year starts up anyway.

Should women be allowed to fight in military combat?
Im working on a persuasive speech, and would like some opinions. Heres the questions to my speech:
Should women be allowed in combat/military?
Should women be in the front line?
Should women be allowed in any dangerous/hazardous duties?
In my speech, Im going to say yes, but Id like a little insight from others. Thanks!
Answer: Many women already find themselves in "combat." They are just not allowed in combat arms such as Infantry et al.
There are no "front lines" When was the last time terrorists lined up in trenches and met us head on?
They are already in dangerous and hazardous duties. That is the nature of the military.
The larger problem with females in Combat arms is the differing hygiene needs. A company of Infantry can go weeks or a month at a time with nothing more than a five gallon water can bath. Females cannot. I worked with females as part of my company the entire time I was in as an MP. Even during a normal field exercise the females could go no longer than 72 hours and we had to release them to go find a shower somewhere, gym. whatever. Us guys could go a week and that is just training in a TRADOC environment. Put folks in hostile zones with added diseases, shi** flying through the dust that is unknown to us period and you have created more problems than you solved by being politically correct. The numbnuts in Washingon couldn't handle a two day camping trip in their 100K Winnebago without having to head on home completely exhausted yet they know exactly what is best for folks deployed in the military but they base their thinking on that experience. Well my wife and daughter went with us and they are just fine. I could go on but I'll shut up for now but it's like this, when they make 1 Standard scoring card for the Physical Fitness test that neither delineates between male and female and females would not be harmed by going days on end in the most crappiest environments we could send them too then by all means, lets open up combat arms jobs to females.
I'll be patiently holding my breath, Not.

What are some good arguements for AND against women in combat?
I am in a debate class and I have been given the topic of Women in Combat. I am for it, but would like arguements for AND against it. If anyone would post any links or wouldnt mind taking time to post their arguements I would greatly appreciate it. I need more facts than opinion, though some opinion would also be helpful. Thanks!

Answer: Well, if you are married, you will already know that most of them are pretty good at it.
Seriously, women want equality, and this is just another step in achieving just that.
