U.S.-MEXICAN BORDER EFFORTS HAMPERED BY POLITICS AND INERTIA
It was billed as the greatest cooperative undertaking ever by United States and Mexican law authorities working on the border. But when it ended April 16, the operation served instead as a stark illustration of a central problem facing the United States as it tries to gain control of the border. Crackdown targets illegal aliens

Suspected illegal aliens, bused from a North Tonawanda greenhouse, enter a downtown processing center on Wednesday.
A government crackdown on illegal aliens targeted a hydroponic tomato greenhouse in North Tonawanda on Wednesday, as federal agents made 34 arrests.
Authorities said they expect that most of the men and women arrested at the Fortistar tomato facility on Shawnee Road will be deported to Mexico within a week.
They also were required to plead guilty to misdemeanor criminal charges, under a tougher government policy on illegal immigration. In the past, government attorneys in Buffalo deported thousands of illegal aliens but rarely prosecuted them criminally.
"Illegal immigration poses an increasing threat to our security, public safety and economy, and hard-hitting interior enforcement will reinforce the strong stance we already take at the border," U.S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn said after the arrests.
A defense attorney, though, said the federal government was acting unnecessarily harshly.
"Theyre throwing the book at people, but it seems a rather harsh punishment for people who are only here because theyre trying to start a new life in America," responded David G. Jay, an attorney for one of the Mexican men arrested. "Many of us have ancestors who came to this country to start a better life, and in the old days, our country welcomed them with open arms."
The Bush administration has said it has to try new tactics to stop the flow of illegal aliens into the United States. More than 11 million undocumented aliens - many of them farm workers - reportedly live in the United States.
Prosecutor John E. Rogowski, who presented the cases in federal court, said most of the people arrested on Wednesday immediately pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of entering the country without an inspection.
"They will be deported," said Peter J. Smith, a supervisor of immigration investigations for Homeland Security in Buffalo. "All the people who are being prosecuted criminally are people who were found to have false identification, including false Social Security numbers."
Two men, including Jays Mexican client, Ruben Baltazar, 24, will face more serious felony prosecutions for illegally entering the country.
"The government has said he is charged with a felony because he was already deported once before - from El Paso [Texas] in June of 2001," Jay said of Baltazar.
Rogowski said the second man charged with a felony could not be found on Wednesday and is considered a fugitive.
The arrests were made at the 12.5-acre Fortistar hydroponic greenhouses, where company officials said 3.5 million pounds of tomatoes are grown annually. The company also runs a power co-generation plant in North Tonawanda.
A manager at the greenhouse referred a reporters questions about illegal aliens to a company official in White Plains, but that official was not available.
In recent months, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from the Department of Homeland Security have made three of the largest roundups of illegal aliens in area history.
Defendants were taken from North Tonawanda by bus to downtown Buffalo. Many appeared nervous or confused as they listened to an interpreter explaining the proceedings before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hugh B. Scott.
Answer: Typical of the defence attorneys to play the our folks came over here and was welcomed with open arms. Very true but our folks came here legally, not the way these are coming. It is the pandering of the illegal element that is causing the high crime rate. It is the wimpy politicians that don't want to call a spade a spade and have law abiding citizens but have those that begin by breaking our laws come on in and invite the rest of the family so we can have more murder and theft and rape.
DID you know?
40% of all workers in L.A. county are working for cash and not paying taxes. There are ten million people in LA county!
95% of outstanding warrants for murder in LA are for illegal aliens

70% of the US population growth annually is a result of immigration (90% in the states of CA NY and FL)

Pretty good reason to get some politicians with some backbone, don't you think?

Mexican Criminals Hide In Los Angeles Area
Los Angeles offers a congenial environment for Mexican criminals who want to hide from the Mexican government.
LOS ANGELES – The killers cross the U.S.-Mexico border, assume new identities, get jobs, blend in among Spanish speakers and sometimes enjoy freedom for years.
But these fugitives from the law arent border-jumpers heading south. As the recent arrest of one of Mexicos most notorious fugitives at a modest home outside Los Angeles showed, some criminals escape justice by heading north.
In the last 10 months, federal immigration officials have helped locate 13 Mexican murder suspects, along with hundreds of other criminals, hiding in plain sight in the Los Angeles area.
The vast Spanish speaking populations of LA provide an environment in which criminals can hide.
"There are large pockets in the L.A. area where you could live forever without having to speak English," said Jorge Field, who oversees the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcements fugitive operations teams in Los Angeles. "As long as youre law-abiding in the United States, as long as you dont have any contact with police, you can fly under the radar for a long time because there is such a vast population in this area."
Of course, some of these fugitives violate laws and harm people while they are in the United States. They are criminals after all.

Who know Mary Boquitas?
Answer: Maria Raquenel Portillo (born 5th January 1970) is an infamous Mexican woman, who is much better known for her nickname of Mary Boquitas.
In 1985, she auditioned for a music group. This group, managed by powerful Mexican producer Sergio Andrade. Portillo was chosen for the group; the girls picked the name "Boquitas Pintadas" because it sounded very different from the names of other typical teenaged bands of the era, many of which tried to copy Menudo with their name. Because of the band's name, Mary Raquenel Portillo would later become known as "Mary Boquitas".
Gloria Trevi was another member of the band. "Boquitas Pintadas" had five members in total; however, it was Trevi and Portillo who were able to forge a friendship that went beyond their days at "Boquitas Pintadas".
As Trevi became a top selling singer during the early 1990s, Mary Boquitas went on to sing as Trevi's back-up while on tour. She would continue singing as one of Trevi's back-up singers until a big scandal began to unravel during the middle 1990s.
In 1995, Andrade's former wife published a book in which she alleged that Andrade sexually abused teenaged girls, sometimes submitting them to torture and even into having lesbian sex with some of Andrade's singers. The book specifically pointed at Trevi and Portillo being involved in these acts, among other people. It also mentioned Karina Yapor.
Andrade, Trevi, Portillo, Yapor and, it is believed, a number of young girls fled Mexico soon after the book was published, and, according to police investigations, they lived at various countries for periods of time, including Spain, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. In 1997, they were declared fugitives by the Mexican police.
News about this case reached the United States, being widespread on a daily basis by such television shows as "El Gordo y la Flaca" with Lily Estefan and Raul De Molina, "Cotorreando" with Mauricio Zeilic and Sábado Gigante, with Don Francisco, among others.
Soon after the Mexican police declared them fugitives, Brazilian police arrested them. Among the charges was the alleged killing of an infant girl that Trevi had supposedly borne. Trevi herself has admitted, through a comics series she draws for a Spanish magazine and which is based on her experiences in Brazil, that she indeed had a baby girl, but that she does not know what happened to her daughter. Brazilian police pointed at Portillo and Andrade as top suspects in the murder of the baby, but the baby's corpse was never found, and the murder charges were later dropped.
Brazilian police also accused the group of kidnapping minors and of sexual conduct with them.
The Brazilians faced one technical problem: Mexico's law also wanted the group, based on the fact that the crimes in which the group was allegedly involved (not counting the baby's case, of course) happened in Mexico. A long, legal battle between lawyers and lawmen from both countries ensued. Meanwhile, the Andrade-Trevi-Boquitas-Yapor case was so widespread that, in 1998, when female inmates had to be transported from Trevi and Portillo's jail due to overcrowding, a special Boeing 737 of Varig had to be chartered for the accused in the famous case, so that they would travel under better protection measures.
In 1999, the women were extradited to Mexico. Yapor had voluntarily returned before, and she was spared from jail time.
After four years and a half in a Mexican jail, the women were acquitted of all charges in 2004.
