"The English landscape painter John Constable once wrote, "I should paint my own laces best." This precept guided his career, as Constable developed a unique style combining objective studies of nature with a deeply personal vision of the countryside round his boyhood home. While most landscapists of the day traveled extensively in search of picturesque or sublime scenery, Constable never left England. His name is so closely associated with his native Stour Valley that the area is sometimes referred to as "Constable country."
Beginning with the 1819 Academy exhibition, Constable demonstrated his aspirations more boldly by exhibiting large-scale scenes of working farms and waterways painted in his studio, using increasingly broad brushstrokes and thickly applied highlights. The Hay Wain (1821; National Gallery, London), one of these so-called six-footers, was among the three paintings that Constable exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1824, where he was awarded a gold medal. His strikingly fresh, apparently spontaneous transcription of the landscape, described by the French writer Stendhal as "the mirror of nature," caused a sensation among French painters. For Eugène Delacroix, in particular, Constable's rich, shimmering surfaces came as a revelation, and, during his 1825 visit to London, he sought out the reclusive artist."
Constable wrote:
"The sound of water escaping from mill dams, willows, old rotten planks, slimy posts and brickwork, I love such things. These scenes made me a painter."

In his full-scale landscape paintings, Constable always devoted a great deal of thought to the skies. They became for him an emotional obsession and a subject of scientific curiosity as well as an object of pictorial analysis, and his obsession received a triumphant vindication when, in 1824, Eugène Delacroix repainted the sky in his The Massacre at Chios after encountering Constable's The Hay Wain (1821) in the Paris Salon. As a consequence of that encounter, it can truly be said that Constable's sky changed the course of European painting. So great was Constable's interest in this subject that from around 1821, he began to create a series of paintings and oil sketches entirely devoted to it, shifting the focus of his art from the earthbound English landscape to the unbounded space of the heavens. This in itself constituted one of the most radical innovations in the history of modern painting. Constable called this practice "skying,"

The work of Constable and Turner marks an important shift in the tradition of British landscape art. Although very different in style and content, the painting of Constable and Turner developed a freedom of paint handling that was to have a profound effect on landscape art. Constable’s preoccupation remained with physical actuality whilst Turner strove for the atmospheric. Together, however, they invented and explored the new language that French painters took up in the Barbizon school and then in Impressionism. The moods of nature, from the subtle range of greens in Constable’s meadows under windy, cloud-tossed skies to the greys, misty blues and browns of snow storms in Turner’s Alps or rain-lashed seas, feelings were expressed through a vocabulary of impasto paint and free brush strokes.

Answer: Her diary begins in September 1991 as she writes about how summer is concluding and that she is about to start school. In the days ahead, she writes about her back-to-school shopping, the music videos she watched, her favorite pizza, etc.
Then the war erupts. Unlike Anne Frank, Zlata rides out the war in their apartment. She constantly battles the cold and hunger as she describes shells pouring over. But nothing is more saddening than the loss of her friends and loved ones.
Her entries went from writing about herself to reports about death, the massacre, no electricity or gas, etc. For the sake of her parents, Zlata had to be strong. She continued to go to summer school despite the shooting and her mother continued to go to work.

Answer: By this posting, you're telling us that you've re-scanned the book, reviewed your class notes, and looked up each item in your web browser, and you haven't been able to do so much as eliminate a single wrong answer.
I find this incredible, in the original sense of the word: a rational person would not believe this. For instance, in all the information about Lincoln's two presidential elections, you haven't been able to find which general ran against him (#20). You haven't been able to identify Lincoln's political party (#7). You searched for "Chief Red Cloud" and "massacre", but couldn't find that answer to #6. You looked up "Civil War" and "Cemetery Ridge" but couldn't do #5.
I see two likely possibilities here:
(1) You have not yet developed the work habits and study skills to do simple, single-item research. You have not developed the reading comprehension skills to handle the textbook material at your level. You have not developed the note-taking skills to deal with the material presented. In this case, you *should* fail the class and back up to recover the missing skills. Passing you through would be setting you up for a *massive* failure in the coming year.
(2) You've simply abandoned your homework to us through laziness or other dysfunctional academic habit. Again, this is something that you *must* fix to be successful, and the remedy is beyond the boundaries of this forum.
I strongly recommend that you go back to the resources you have at your disposal. Start with those look-up keys I suggested above. Apply similar searches to as many of the other questions as you can. It's been 40 years since I had this class, but I'm confident that, with the Internet at my beck and call (and three questions I can answer from "life experience"), I can nail a 18 of 20 on this test within an hour.
Go ye thou and do likewise. When you get *stuck*, post the questions you can't get, explain to us where you're stuck on each, and we'll help with the rough spots. As you've already seen, if you simply abandon the entire assignment to us, we tend to figure that you're simply cheating, and we ignore you.

Dancing With Wolves Movie Critic?
Im recently studying film and my professor made us watch this movie and gave us a short guide film critic
If you watched the movie please help,,(steps below)
1. Introduction
2. Analyze the theme
3.Analyze the story (plot,characters,sybolism)
4. Analyze the Genre *I believe this movie is western* correct me if im wrong
5. Concluding remarks
6.References
I need to complete this ..to have an idea on how to do a movie critic.
first right answer gets 10 POINTS!! :D
Answer: 1. Introduction:
the movie opened up with the main character (John Dunbar) played by Kevin Costner is lying on a cot and suffering from a battle wound to his leg. the period was during the civil war, the setting was a medical tent. John Dunbar overheard that his leg will have to be aputated due to the severity of his wounds. upset with the news John flees the tent and mounts his horse on a suicide mission towards the enemies position. he rides directly in front of the confederate infiltry line mocking their shooters. the enemy soldiers begin taking shots at John as he rides by with his arms spread eagle. just as a man taking aim at John is about to fire, he is shot in the head by an opposing soldier. the distarction caused by John's antics gives the Union batalion an opportunity to mount a to surprise attack. the general on the field commended John Dunbar's heroic and sees to John receiving the best medical attention in order to save his injured leg... [the introduction deplicts John Dunbar to be fearless, bold, and quite careless. here is a man who was willing to die for the sake of losing a leg.]
2. Analyze the theme:
Dances with Wolves illustrates a different view of Native Americans, which is not frequently deplicted in most western films. despite the main character being a US soldier, the story leads him into the camps of an unknown enemy. we get to see how the some Tribes welcome uninvited visitors tresspassing on the lands. we share in John Dunbar's experience of hunting and trading with his new found neighbors. we witness the struggles Native Americans endured when amny US settlers would massacre wild buffulo, which was the life line of many indiginous tribes. the movie also takes us into the camps of the Souix indians where we get a look at their social and romantic baviors, and even how they defended their homes from invaders. therefore I would say the theme of the film was to educate the viewer on a different aspect of US history, beyond what we are taught in school.
3.Analyze the story (plot,characters,sybolism):
I believe the plot was John Dunbar finding his place in life, and realizing that treasures can be found outside the relm of your own comprehension. he was a lost sole searching for his purpose in life and found it where he's least expected it,
4. Analyze the Genre *I believe this movie is 'western'* correct me if im wrong:
I would say the movie is more of a Period film, or Drama. the setting was in fact surrounding the midwest, but the story is based on the relationship between a man who has nothing to lose, and a tribe of Native Americans whom has everthing to lose.
5. Concluding remarks: you're on your own
6.References: you're on your own

i dont understand the palestinian/israeli conflict?
please dont criticize me for not knowing, im 18, and most high schools these days arent good at educating their students. i would really like to know, and educated myself about it. i keep hearing different opinions from different people but they all seem biased because they either support or hate one group or another, so i would like some straightforward explanation to what is going on.
i hear from the muslims that Israel is to blame? this whole entire time i thought it was the opposite. like i said, please dont criticize me.
please explain it to me, ive searched throughout websites but im still confused, i think i would understand it better if there were a straightforward answer.
thank you, and please, no prejudice or hostile comments, lets keep it mature.
Answer: Jews originally came from Israel. Those that left were mostly forced against their will by foreign occupiers.
Some Jews stayed. In the 7th century, some Arabs moved in.
In the 1940’s both Arabs and Jews had large immigration into the area.
Arabs sold a lot of land to Jews at high prices.
Both groups wanted independence.
Arabs began ethnically cleansing Jews in 1929 from Hebron.
The British took almost 80% of palestine and gave it independence in 1947 and renamed it Jordan.
They immediately seized all Jewish property and began ethnically cleansing the palestinian Jews from the 80% of palestine that was now called Jordan and pushing them in to the remaining 20% of palestine.
The remaining 20% of palestine that was not indepedent yet now had the palestinian Arabs that had lived in that 20% + all the Jews that had lived in 100% of palestine squished in to it.
The UN voted to give both groups independence by creating 2 new states with borders and govt based on demographic majority.
Majority Jewish areas would be Israel; Majority Arab areas would be an Arab state; and majority Jewish Jerusalem would be an international city.
Jews accepted it.
Arabs rejected it and promised to commit genocide. Azam Pasha, the Arab League Secretary, declared, "This will be a war of extermination and a momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades"
And they tried.
Arabs attacked Israel immediately and did ethnically cleanse ALL Jews from all land seized by Arabs in 1948. They ethnically cleansed Jews from Jerusalem and the West Bank and Gaza.
Jews invited Arabs to stay. Many did. Today 20% of all Israeli citizens and elected MKs are Arab Israeli citizens.
In Israel, anyone can own property.
It is a death penalty crime for Jews to own property in “palestine” and for Arabs to sell land to Jews under both Jordanian and PA law.
Currently PA and Hamas teach that all Jews must be killed as a Moslem religious obligation. This is taught in schools, children’s tv, comic books, and in Mosques.

Samurai Champloo- Mugen's a buck wild warrior - violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin - mysterious, traditional, well-mannered and very strong as well. These two fiercely independent warriors can`t be any more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy waitress, saves them from being executed when they are arrested after a violent swordfight. Fuu convinces the two vagrant young men to help her find a mysterious samurai "who smells of sunflowers." And their journey begins. This is a story about love, friendship and courage... NOT!
It's really funny, sad, and badass.
Deadman Wonderland-A massive earthquake ravaged Japan's mainland and destroyed most of Tokyo, sinking three-quarters of it into the ocean.
Ten years later, the story starts with Igarashi Ganta, a seemingly ordinary, unassuming middle school student attending Nagano Prefecture's middle school. An escapee, a survivor of the great earthquake, Ganta has no memories of the tragedy and has lived a simple, normal life. This all changes one day when a strange man covered in blood and crimson armour appears, floating, out of his classroom windows. Smirking madly, this Red Man massacres Ganta's entire class and, instead of killing him, embeds a red crystal shard in his chest. I think you'll actual;ly like it. It's bloody. And sad butt REALLY AWESOMEEE. !!!!
Full Metal alchemist Brotherhood-
In this world there exist alchemists, people who study and perform the art of alchemical transmutation - to manipulate objects and transform one object into another. They are bounded by the basic law of alchemy: in order to gain something you have to sacrifice something of the same value. The main character is the famous alchemist Edward Elric - also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist - who almost lost his little brother, Alphonse, in an alchemical accident. Edward managed to attach his brother's soul to a large suit of armor. While he did manage to save his brother's life, he paid the terrible price of his limbs. To get back what they've lost, the brothers embark on a journey to find the Philosopher's Stone that is said to amplify the powers of an alchemist enormously.
Soul Eater-Set in the Shinigami technical school for weapon meisters, the series revolves around 3 groups of each a weapon meister and a human weapon. Trying to make the latter a "Death Scythe" which is the highest title for a weapon and thus fit for use by the Shinigami, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and 1 witch.Maka & Soul Eater, Black Star & Tsubaki, and Death the Kid with Patty and Liz Thompson are the characters Soul Eater revolves around. Besides taking the time to gather souls, these students of Shibusen defend Death City from some of the most powerful of creatures while still attending school and trying to become stronger.
Herioc Age-When the Golden Race invited other races to join them in the stars, three sentient races answered their call. The Goldens called them the Bronze, Silver and Heroic Tribes. Just before the Gold Tribe left to travel to another Universe, a fourth race appeared, traveling to the stars on their own accomplishments. The Golds named the human race the Iron Tribe. During the passing of time, humanity suffers at the hands of the more dominant races and is now facing extinction. Following a prophecy left by the Gold Tribe, Princess Deianeira sets out to search for the powerful being who might be able to save humankind. She meets a wild haired boy on an abandoned planet - a fateful encounter that will not only change the fortunes of Humanity, but also the fate of the universe.
It's mechaaa. Umm I really liked it.
Cowboy Bebop- Enter a world in the distant future, where Bounty Hunters roam the solar system. Spike and Jet, bounty hunting partners, set out on journeys in an ever struggling effort to win bounty rewards to survive. While traveling, they meet up with other very interesting people. Could Faye, the beautiful and ridiculously poor gambler, Edward, the computer genius, and Ein, the engineered dog be a good addition to the group? It's a classic. Loved it. Ummm not very good artwork. Cause it's kinda old. But still just give it a try. !!!

Answer: Okay i don't know a great deal before 1900 because my course doesn't start until around then, but i'm guessing it was similar because not much improved under the Tsar.
The Tsar Nicholas became leader in 1894, and at the time he was liked by Russia, and since he was the supreme leader, he was very important. Russia was a large empire, not just a single country so there was a lot of land and people to control. There were many different nationalities living there, and they weren't all happy with the Russian rule so it was important that the Tsar kept them all unified. Throughout his rule however, the Tsar became more and more out of touch with his people (most notably on Bloody Sunday in 1905), therefore others had to begin taking control e.g. the Bolsheviks were fighting for a majority and the first revolution was as early as 1905 (with the final two being in 1914 that meant the Tsar abdicated). This meant that in effect the Tsar was becoming less and less important, because he wasn't really doing much anyway and other people began to take control until his final abdication.
The life of the peasants around 1905 was terrible. They made up 80% of the population but they were living in squalid conditions where famine and starvation was prevalent. They worked in dirty conditions and there were no regulations on child labour, working hours or safety - they were overworked in dangerous conditions. Life expectancy for farmers was around 40. Most peasants were illiterate and poor so had no way of gaining any more education. Peasants lived in communes and land was in short supply - there was a lot of overcrowding in the cities like Moscow as people moved there in search of a better lifestyle in the industrial areas. However, despite all this they remained supportive to the Tsar as they were religious and thought the Tsar had been appointed by God i believe. I presume it was similar before 1905 but have not learnt that specifically as my course is 1905 onwards. Between 1905-14, their conditions did not improve a great deal under the Tsar because his ruling became worse and worse.
Russia was a backwards country. It was far behind other foreign powers like Britain in terms of industrialisation and they did not seem to be doing much to move towards industrialisation. Russia was very expansive but there were few industrial areas, most of the East was high land, forest and tundra that had couldn't be worked on. It was difficult to get around as the infrastructure was old fashioned.
The Tsar was an autocratic leader which meant he had complete control over Russia and everything that occurred was his responsibility. This put quite a lot of pressure on him. The autocracy were like the upper class citizens in Russia and they lived quite luxuriously - they made up 1.5% of the population but owned 25% of the land. They were mostly educated and had no reason for the most part not to support the Tsar.
The Tsar was quite popular at the beginning of his rule - the peasants supported him and the autocrats lived good lives so they also did. However, as the Tsar began to get out of touch with Russia, his popularity dwindled significantly and there were murmurs of a revolution. The 1905 revolution was mostly unorganised peasants, and this happened because the massacre at Bloody Sunday, which was meant to be a peaceful protest. Respect for the Tsar was lost here. Later, around the time of WW1, the autocracy also lost support for the Tsar when he went off the become the war leader and left his unpopular wife to take control of Russia with Rasputin. He was greatly disliked by the end (him and his family were held hostage and murdered).
In terms of industrialisation, Russia was still very backward, although some rapid industrialisation happened whilst Sergei Witte was prime minister. He developed iron and steel plants and modernised Russia slightly, there were more workers in the factories but this meant wages were low and conditions were awful for the workers. (sorry didnt have a great deal to say about that).
