Do you mind a question about the economy and the candidates?
Im a little dense about this I guess. I took economics in college. I dont understand why, all of a sudden, the economy is crashing. I understand that the war in Iraq is wearing on our budget, but wouldnt that have been doing that a little along, not a sudden crash?! Can someone please enlighten me as to how this could have happened all of a sudden? I know...Bush is the answer, at least it seems that way but can you explain your theory? Also, how can the candidates possibly change what is happening?
Answer: No. The meltdown was caused by corrupt and greedy people starting with Congress who failed to enact legislation reforming Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac who demanded that unqualified people be given mortages. These were called high risk loans.
John McCain saw the fiscal meltdown coming two years ago and tried to do something about it and helped propose reforming Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac.
The bill was shot down by members of Congress who were influenced by Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac lobbyists and the Black Congessional Caucaus. You know Obama's friends.
McCain:
"I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation."

LETTER FROM WASHINGTON; U.S. Fiscal Deal Unlikely Without Compromise
WASHINGTON — As many Republicans reject higher tax rates for wealthier Americans, Newt Gingrich , the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, urges them to continue to resist, claiming that the economic boom of the 1990s and the resulting budget surplus were due to his leadership in Congress and not to President Bill Clinton - By ALBERT R. How does the Left plan to challenge the Arizona law this week or this month?
How do they plan to do this when the law wont even go into effect to the middle of the summer?
Dont they realize that the law isnt even ripe for review until after it goes into effect and someone is supposedly harmed by it?
Disher5:
Im too tired to explain to you Con Law but you cant challenge without standing and you dont have standing without some injury.
But what do I know I am just a Law School student.
Answer: ... It's not just the left. There are actually a few good people on the right, too.
With Arizona's controversial immigration-enforcement bill now law, the battle will quickly shift from the state Capitol to the courts, where opponents plan to challenge it as an unconstitutional intrusion on federal authority and a violation of civil rights. The U.S. Constitution makes it clear that the federal government alone has the responsibility to enact and enforce immigration laws.
.
The ugly specter of racial profiling, which violates civil rights, has drawn rebukes from Democrats and Republicans alike. On Friday, President Barack Obama said he has directed administration officials to "closely monitor" the civil-rights implications of the Arizona law. Newly appointed interim Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley, a Republican, also expressed civil-rights concerns last week when urging Brewer to veto the bill. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, a Democrat, signaled Friday that he intends to pursue a lawsuit. The Justice Department also could try to intervene legally.
Under the Constitution's "supremacy clause," the Constitution and federal law trump state law. Article 1 of the Constitution, which spells out Congress' powers, specifically gives U.S. lawmakers authority to establish a "uniform Rule of Naturalization" and to regulate commerce with other nations. Opponents of individual state action on immigration argue a uniform national immigration policy makes sense and is preferable to a patchwork of different laws in different states.

Timing is not clear, but legal experts speculate that certain immediate challenges to the law - such as the argument that federal authority is supreme on immigration - could result in a judge blocking the law from ever taking effect. Other challenges, such as those claiming racial profiling, may require enforcement of the law first to create a test case.

Is Rove correct, will Lieberman put the final nail in the republican coffin if he is selected for VP?
Republican strategist Karl Rove called Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) late last week and urged him to contact Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to withdraw his name from vice presidential consideration, according to three sources familiar with the conversation.
Lieberman dismissed the request, these sources agreed.
Lieberman "laughed at the suggestion and certainly did not call [McCain] on it," said one source familiar with the details.
"Rove called Lieberman," recounted a second source. "Lieberman told him he would not make that call."
-HP-
Answer: Unless Lieberman is looking to permanantly switch parties, he would be foolish to take the VP slot, just as I think McCain would be foolish to offer it to him.
Now before you slam me, let me explain. I really like Lieberman. As far as Dems go, he's probably the best. I know he recently declared he was Independent because of his tiff with Howard Dean, but he's still pretty much a Dem at heart.
However, if he accepted and Obama wins, he will long be ostracized from the DNC, probably never to be considered for anything again, and he'll be ostracized by the (currently) largely Democratic Congress.
McCain's biggest criticism from most is that he's too liberal, so selecting a Democrat would really send the far right into a frenzy (not that they would vote for Obama, but it might cause a 3rd party to rise us and at least take away votes from McCain.
The other big criticism of McCain (from ignorant people I might add) is his age. At only 6 years his junior, adding Lieberman would do nothing on that end either.
The best choice for McCain would be Condi Rice.
1. She's qualified
2. She's experienced
And it would also help to nullify issues of race and gender so people could hopefully vote for a team based on issues. Call me un-PC, but a lot of people (both Black and White) are voting for Obama because of race (at least as their primary issue). If Condi Rice were on the bill, they could put that aside and look at the people and the issues; their actions, statements, associations, track records and proposals.
Like it or not, they call it "politics" for a reason, and McCain has to play the game if he wants to win. At roughly 20 years McCain's junior, it would also help to nullify the stupid issue of his age that has also hampered him.

Were you outraged when Bush tapped phones?
If you answered yes, then you are most likely a bitter liberal. Also, you should be just as outraged by Obama. He and his constituents have asked you to report family and friends emails to a white house database if they speak out against the government run healthcare or the president (aka the fuhrer). That is communism there. I smell an audit coming for anyone reported to that database. At least Bush did it to try and catch alleged terrorists. It wasnt to try to censor or punish people against his own views and policies.
Answer: Obama voted for the Patriot act.

Why didnt Boehner introduce a bill in the House to declare or not declare war?
The action of declaring something a "war" -or not- begins in the House. It was Boehners responsibility to introduce a bill.
Answer: He's been too busy with a number of really important bills like:
H.Con.Res. 13 (ih) Reaffirming ``In God We Trust'' as the official motto of the United States and supporting and encouraging the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions. [Introduced in House]
H.Con.Res. 26 (ih) Expressing the sense of Congress that the United States Postal Service should issue a commemorative postage stamp honoring former Representative Shirley Chisholm, and that the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee should recommend to the Postmaster General that such a stamp be issued. [Introduced in House]
H.Con.Res. 25 (ih) Expressing the sense of Congress with respect to the Obama administration's discontinuing to defend the Defense of Marriage Act. [Introduced in House]
H.Con.Res. 18 (ih) Urging the President to authorize the return to the people of the Philippines of two church bells that were taken by the United States Army in 1901 from the town of Balangiga on the island of Samar, Philippines, and are currently displayed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. [Introduced in House]

Who here is naive enough to believe that Saddam would leave WMDs lying around and that Obamas taxes are less?
Obams tax plan is higherfor those who make more than 42 k
I know you are there LOL
come out of your closets libs
Answer: These people do, before they didnt, then did, then didnt again.
United States weapons inspector Charles Duelfer released his extensive report last week, and confirmed that Saddam Hussein had shut down Iraq's chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons programs following the first Iraq war in 1991. His report also showed that Saddam had no stockpiles of WMDs after that year. With that said, it is interesting to look back at how the Democrats, like Bush, lied to the American public, and inflated Saddam's supposed threat to our national security. The mendacity was undoubtedly universal. Here are a few of the choice quotes.)

Why are Christan "pro life" conservatives always the first ones pounding the drum for war?
Whats up with that?
Answer: David, you sound like an idiot. Who is more blood thirsty then the baby killing liberal?
As far as being the first to pound the drum for war, WWI was started by a far left loony liberal Democrat named Woodrow Wilson and approved by his Democratic Congress he was replaced by William Howard Taft, a Republican after the war.
WWII was started by Franklin Delano Roosevelt A Democrat with the blessing of his Democratic Congress.
Korea although not called a war was just as costly as many of our other wars and we entered into the Korean action upon the insistence of the Democrats in Congress and the Senate and President Harry S. Truman, a Democrat. He was replaced by Dwight Eisenhower, a Republican, who got us out of the war after the signing a truce with the North Koreans and establishing the present boundaries separating North and South Korea.
Eisenhower also create the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) and allowed some troops to go to Vietnam as advisors and observers. It was John F. Kennedy, a Democrat who sent in a new team of investigators and produced the “December 1961 White Papers” which was was basically a cry for more aid to Vietnam. Kennedy decided to send more advisors and machinery but would not send troops. Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, was the president in office when the Gulf of Tonkin attack occurred. Two U.S ships were attacked off the coast of Vietnam in neutral water. The first attack was legitimate but no one knows if the second actually occurred. Johnson decided to use this situation as a chance to cover up the resolution that gave Johnson more war powers. This was called the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. The resolution was a series of air strikes against the North Vietnam territory. From there the war and American involvement escalated. It was Richard M. Nixon a Republica, who finally got us out of Vietnam.
William Clinton, a Democrat got us involved in the Bosnian/Balkan conflicts.
George H.W. Bush, a Republican under pressure and insistence of a Democratic Congress with the urging of the UN, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other Arab countries did intervene to liberate Kuwait from Iraq. George W. Bush, a Republican after the 9/11 attacks and with the approval of a Democratic Congress and UN resolutions did go war with Afghanistan and Iraq.
Barack Obama, a Democrat has gotten us involved in some illegal conflicts such as Libya without the approval of the Republican controlled Congress. He has also used the military and an unmanned UAV drone to assassinate an American citizen in Yemen..
Even the Civil war was started by Southern Democrats and Confederate President Jefferson Davis, a Democrat who ordered Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard to lay siege on Fort Sumter thereby starting the civil war.
What was it you were saying? Christan "pro life" conservatives are always the first ones pounding the drum for war. BULLSHIT, YOU NEED TO GO BACK AND STUDY SOME HISTORY AND STOP MAKING UP STORIES.

What are Obama and Romneys policy on Solar Energy?
What with greenhouse gasses emitted from burning coal, oil and natural gas, are they seriously considering solar energy as an alternative? Or are they too heavily swayed by lobbyist from vested interests in the energy sector be it owners or labor unions?
Answer: Obama promised to put solar panels on the White House and still has not "Spring officially ends next week, and the White House is strangely silent about the panels that never materialized. Throughout this spring, I’ve e-mailed the White House, through all the various channels I can find, to ask what’s up. I get responses to about a third of my inquiries, but they have nothing to do with White House solar panels. I fear that promise has gone the way of the Guantanamo closing and so many others. My hope, it is a-fadin’.
But there’s strength in numbers, and I’m giving it one more try. Today Credo Action launched a campaign urging people to call President Obama and ask him to install the solar panels on the White House. “This is a simple and easy commitment on climate action, and the President should make good on it,” Credo Action’s website states. Indeed, this is one action that President Obama could take without having to fight Congress or make any compromises. Michelle could handle it. I guess they’ve been busy.

Or perhaps Obama is staying off topic because of the failed solar ventures he has poured taxpayer money into.
Romney appears to support renewable energy and alternative energy but, not if it means huge taxpayer subsidies.

How do you feel about California lawmakers want to suspend ALL immigration laws?
California State Senator Gilbert Cedillo-D put forth a resolution that passed in the California Senate condemning specified policies and practices of federal agencies regarding the enforcement of immigration laws. Furthermore Cedillo’s resolution urges Congress and President Obama to declare an immediate moratorium on immigration policies and practices until a comprehensive reform of immigration is enacted.
Although a Joint Senate Resolution does not have the force of law, it is voted on in both California Houses. This resolution has passed in a partisan Democrat vote. The resolution is not typically sent to the Governors desk. Most would consider the document more of a hopeful resolution.
The first paragraph of the resolution reads, “The State of California values all of its residents, whether they be citizens, legal residents, or undocumented immigrants, and strives to enable all residents to work and live free from discrimination, exploitation, and repressive federal immigration enforcement.”
However Congressman Brian Bilbray-R Calif. reminds Sen. Cedillo that this resolution breaks the laws of the Constitution. “He should look up the separation of powers section and this resolution is nothing more than political posturing.”
According to Sen. Cedillo’s Press Secretary Xochitl Arellano, Senator Cedillo who campaigned with President Obama has now officially put the President on notice. “The electronic raids have to stop.”
There are hundreds of undocumented workers losing their jobs on a moments notice, Arellano points out. “The Obama Administration must stop E-Verify, period.”
When asked about the California’s double-digit unemployment rate and the difficulty U.S. citizens’ face Arellano says, “We are not responding to that and it doesn’t matter.”
This resolution will surely create a firestorm of backlash from those who demand enforcement of state and federal immigration laws.
One such opponent is State Assemblyman Martin Garrick-R Carlsbad.
“ It’s ridiculous and Assemblyman Garrick has tried numerous times to strengthen immigration laws and how to better identify the ones who reside in the jail system,” says Mike Zimmerman, press secretary for Garrick. “However, the make up of the state legislation makes it difficult to get any meaningful reform through.”
Zimmerman continues to say a moratorium on immigration enforcement would be a public safety threat and should be very concerning for all citizens in the country.
Tactics like these doesn’t come as a surprise from anti-amnesty and secure border groups like the Minutemen.
"Gil Cedillo has long been a strong advocate for Mexican illegal aliens, but this crosses the line and is a direct attack on American citizens and taxpayers. Cedillo does not speak for most Californians with his seditious words and radical propaganda," says Jeff Schwilk, Founder of the San Diego Minutemen.
On a national level, immigration organizations that study the issues and their affect on the U.S. population like Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) view Cedillo’s action as unacceptable.
“In the wake of busts across the country of separate, unrelated terrorism busts of individuals who are mostly foreign born, California wants to replace some semblance of order provided by solid programs like E-Verify and 287(g) that better help us find out who is authorized to be here and who has and has not broken the law, with blinders. What are California lawmakers thinking? Would it matter if the Dallas bomber was the LA bomber instead?” Janice Kephart, Director of National Security Policy for CIS said.

Answer: The illegal aliens are voting in all the counties in California. When you look at that news, you know exactly what it means for the future. It is also important to understand every day the Senate and House stalled the votes that would have enforced the immigration law, what we saw in California was closer and closer to being the case, rather than an exception.

Today is the 28th and still no deposit from the IRS. Did anyone else NOT receive their deposit today?
The WMR has never updated. It still reads...
We have received your tax return and it is being processed. Unless there is a processing delay or you owe other taxes, you should receive your refund by February 1, 2011. Thats on a Tuesday. Does the IRS make deposit on any days other than Fridays?
Answer: Who Must Wait to File For most taxpayers, the 2011 tax filing season starts on schedule. However, tax law changes enacted by Congress and signed by President Obama in December mean some people need to wait until mid- to late February to file their tax returns in order to give the IRS time to reprogram its processing systems. Some taxpayers – including those who itemize deductions on Form 1040 Schedule A – will need to wait to file. This includes taxpayers impacted by any of three tax provisions that expired at the end of 2009 and were renewed by the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act Of 2010 enacted Dec. 17. Those who need to wait to file include: * Taxpayers Claiming Itemized Deductions on Schedule A. Itemized deductions include mortgage interest, charitable deductions, medical and dental expenses as well as state and local taxes. In addition, itemized deductions include the state and local general sales tax deduction that was also extended and which primarily benefits people living in areas without state and local income taxes. Because of late Congressional action to enact tax law changes, anyone who itemizes and files a Schedule A will need to wait to file until mid- to late February. * Taxpayers Claiming the Higher Education Tuition and Fees Deduction. This deduction for parents and students – covering up to $4,000 of tuition and fees paid to a post-secondary institution – is claimed on Form 8917. However, the IRS emphasized that there will be no delays for millions of parents and students who claim other education credits, including the American Opportunity Tax Credit extended last month and the Lifetime Learning Credit. * Taxpayers Claiming the Educator Expense Deduction. This deduction is for kindergarten through grade 12 educators with out-of-pocket classroom expenses of up to $250. The educator expense deduction is claimed on Form 1040, Line 23 and Form 1040A, Line 16. In addition to extending those tax deductions for 2010, the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act also extended those deductions for 2011 and a number of other tax deductions and credits for 2011 and 2012 such as the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the modified Child Tax Credit, which help families pay for college and other child-related expenses. The Act also provides various job creation and investment incentives including 100 percent expensing and a two-percent payroll tax reduction for 2011. Those changes have no effect on the 2011 filing season. The IRS will announce a specific date in the near future when it can start processing tax returns impacted by the recent tax law changes. In the interim, taxpayers affected by these tax law changes can start working on their tax returns, but they should not submit their returns until IRS systems are ready to process the new tax law changes. Additional information will be available at www.IRS.gov. For taxpayers who must wait before filing, the delay affects both paper filers and electronic filers. The IRS urges taxpayers to use e-file instead of paper tax forms to minimize confusion over the recent tax law changes and ensure accurate tax returns. Except for those facing a delay, the IRS will begin accepting e-file and Free File returns on Jan. 14. Additional details about e-file and Free File will be announced later this month.

What are some problems that face the World Trade Organization and?
and what are some bad things that cause this organization to function unefficiently?
Answer: TO: Barack Hussein Obama II
Mr. President, as you embark today in this historical occasion –the first visit of a US president to Puerto Rico in fifty years– 3.8 million American citizens that live on the Island embrace this occasion with the expectation that its outcome sets a definitive course to address the Island’s economic perils and a permanent solution to the issue of our future status and relationship with Washington.
It is also significant that this visit occurs during one of the most challenging economic periods in decades for the U.S., and for Puerto Rico, that endures the hardships of a six year long recession.
After 113 years of relationship with the U.S., we have made remarkable economic and social strides that made it possible for the Island to evolve from being known as the “poor house of the Caribbean” to today’s modern and vibrant society. It has been a significant and beneficial relationship for both countries, but it now needs to evolve.
In the face of this challenge, we recognize your administration’s efforts providing a blueprint for economic development and political stability through the report issued in March by the White House Inter Agency Group. However, much more needs to be done in order for the Island to attain both goals.
With an unemployment rate that stands at 16.4 percent -the highest of all U.S. jurisdictions-, we see pivotal to our economic development and exploitation of our exporting potential (highlighted in the task group’s report) the opposition of the applicability in Puerto Rico of the Jones Act of 1920, which has proved to be an impediment to our free trade and a stranglehold on our economy.
It is also of upmost importance to us that your administration sees that the Navy picks up the pace of the comprehensive cleanup and remediation at the closed military range in Vieques, as well as that of the implementation of the promised policies from the federal government to boost sustainable economic growth and job creation on the municipal island.
On the matter of status, we have not forgotten the promise you made in a letter sent to Gov. Luis Fortuño in January of 2009 in which you pledged “….to work with Congress and all groups in Puerto Rico to enable the question of Puerto Rico's status to be resolved during the next four years ”.
That Puerto Rico needs to exercise its inalienable right to self-determination, as you and so many other presidents before you have stated, is obvious. But as a “non-self governing territory” in which the Congress and the President retain ultimate governance of the Island, we urge you to seize this chance to make a compelling case in Washington for a formal commitment on the part of the U.S. Government to honor whatever determination we make.
The U.S. has a legal and moral responsibility towards Puerto Rico. It is time now to move from the conceptual into action.
Puerto Rico must accept the dispositions of laws imposed by another country, without its consent, clearly demonstrates the colonial character of our relationship with the United States. In Puerto Rico, this is called "Estado Libre Asociado"(Free Associated State or Commonwealth). In international law, it is called "colony".
This current colonial status does not allow Puerto Ricans to vote for the President of the United States. Puerto Ricans do not have representation in the U.S. Senate and no voting representation in Congress. Instead, the 4 million U.S. Citizens of Puerto Rico only have one “Resident Commissioner” who cannot even vote on the House floor. Therefore, Puerto Ricans have no say in the making of the laws and statutes that apply to them. Even though the U.S. Supreme Court has absolute jurisdiction over Puerto Rico, Puerto Ricans do not have representation in the U.S. Senate to cast an up or down vote on Supreme Court nominees. In the end, Puerto Rico is governed by a Congress in which they are not allowed to participate in, an Executive whom they did not elect, and a Judiciary whose justices they did not confirm.
In a world in which the world's most powerful (the United States) owns the world's oldest colony (Puerto Rico), stand up for freedom, liberty, and democracy. Say NO to Colonialism... Support Puerto Rican Independence or Statehood!

for those of you who watched obamas state of the union speech?
what "image" did obama wish to convery and how does he do it to each of the following audiences?
very confused of how to answer this please help!
a) washington DC colleagues
B) democratic party activist
C) mass public
Answer: (i dont really understand "washington DC colleagues" im taking it as something close to the word peers maybe?)
a) He was talking to his pals in washington whenever he was urging congress to step it up and make decisions without getting into the manditory battle between republicans and democrats such as when he was asking for them to get the bills SOON and he'll sign them quickly.
b) The only place i could see him talking straight to these guys would be when he was focusing on boosting the middle class because thats what democrats do, and republicans boost the upper class (steriotypically)
c) He was mainly trying to speak to the mass public because he was giving the "State of the Union Address" and its meant for the mass public to understand. When he used words like JOBS and LOWER TAXES, thats every polatician's bait for the mass public because thats the people who cant afford the taxes and dont have jobs.
Overall i think the image was about fairness, reform, common sense, and rationality.
(I'm a 10th grade high school nerd so i mean i probly have a slightly different view on polatics than a laid off worker who cant pay their utilities. The republican nomanies have claimed his speech was high on rhetoric and low on action though lol youre choice should be to interperate the info you get the best you can.)
Cheers, John

Its a sign of how poorly liberals market themselves and their ideas that the word liberal is still in disrepute despite the election of the most genuinely liberal president that the political culture of this country will probably allow. What do you think about Obama being one of the top 3 Congressmen to receive contributions from Fannie&Freddie?
He is the third largest recipient of contributions from the two failed home mortgage giants after Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. Now the Federal Government is having to bail them out at tax payer expense. Is this just a prelude to how he is going to treat us taxpayers if he gets elected?
Answer: I think it is outrageous!
FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005
The United States Senate
May 25, 2006
Section 16
Sen. John McCain [R-AZ]: Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae's former chief executive officer, OFHEO's report shows that over half of Mr. Raines' compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator's examination of the company's accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.
