Im 17 and me,my boyfriend, and my parents are going to get a hotel room in NY for new years eve and me and my boyfriend were going to go do our own thing and at first we were thinking about whatching the ball drop in time square but the standing for 10 hours, on top of random strangers, didnt seem so appealing once we thought about it. Any other ideas? Especially because were under 18 Thanks so much
Answer: Seventeen and New Years Eve is tough, even the clubs that allow 18+ (like Webster Hall) are vigilant about checking IDs. I would also pass on Times square and the many hours of standing still. So what to do? Get yourseles a Metro card fun pass and get ready to ride - Start at about 3:30PM (Sun down is about 4:30) get on the 4 or 5 train to Bowling Green. Get out there and diagonally across the Street is the 'Bronze Bull' get a photo or two. Cross the street into Battery Park and take a walk on the Waterfront at Sundown. Once the Sun is down jump on the Staten Island Ferry and do the round trip through the Harbor. When you return to the Ferry terminal in Manhattan it should be about 6 -6:30PM Go back to the train (You can take the R, 4 or 5) Uptown to Canal street. Now you are in China Town . Why Asian food on New Years Eve. Well you wont need Reservations - It's not their New Year. Find a Chinese Place that you would like to eat (Hint look for places that have a good amount of customers) Call that place your find in Chinatown "Our Restaurant" - Hey I remember being 17!. After eating Cross Canal St and venture into Little Italy, go there for Cappacino and desert. It should be around 8-9 PM now - ring your parents cell phone and let them know you are heading back Uptown. Get on the Uptown R N or W Train and take it to 49 th street. Yes you will see all those folks (a few blocks of them waiting stationary) for the ball to drop. Walk to 50th street annd walk two avenues to Rockefeller Center (5th avenue). Check out the Tree and all the Grandeur of the Plaza. Also the Windows at Lord and Tailor across the street. There are glass structures on the street on both sides of the Skating rink yhay have a single elevator in them- near the street row of flags. Take the elevator down to the concourse. Check out the skaters- most of the stores will be closed, but usually Starbucks is open for Hot Chocolate. It s/b around 10-10:30 now you can stroll along 5th avenue or head back to to where the Ball will drop. Yes you will be several blocks away, but you can say you were there and sometimes watching the crowds cheer and the confetti fall is better from a distance Or Meet up with Mom and Dad and greet the New Year with those who love you the most!

Youre 35 years old and dont have a drivers license. You ride in a subway car with no air conditioning just because there are seats available. You and the other three passengers look at each other and know you have pure grit. You take the train home and you know exactly where on the platform the doors will open that will leave you right in front of the exit stairway. You know what a "regular" coffee is Its not Manhattan, its the "City". You get upset that a cabbie is obeying all the rules of the road Someone passes out on the train, you mistakenly think he is dead and complain that he had to die on your train because this is going to make you late! The rurals scare you, but.. Youre willing to take in strange people as roommates simply to help pay the rent. There is no North and South. Its uptown or downtown. If youre really from New York you have absolutely no concept of where North and South are. You cross the street anywhere but on the corners yelling at the cars for not respecting the fact. You move 8,000 miles away, spend 10 years learning the local language and people still know youre from Brooklyn the minute you open your mouth. You return after 10 years and the first foods you want are a "real" pizza and "real" bagel. A 500 square foot apartment is large. Your co-worker commutes 45 minutes by train to a 2,000 square foot house in the suburbs that was the same price as that same 500 square foot apartment of yours that takes only 35 minutes to get to and you think hes a sucker. You know the differences between all the different Rays Pizzas. You are not under the mistaken impression that any human being would be able to actually understand a P.A. announcement on the subway. You know who Dr. Z is. You have at least 50 menus in your apartment, two thirds of which you have neither ordered from nor even heard of. You wouldnt bother ordering an pizza in any other city. You know that the off the shelf insecticides are just laughing gas to the superior roaches cohabitating with you in the 500 square foot apartment. You get ready to order dinner every night and must choose from the 4 major food groups: Chinese, Italian, Mexican or Indian. Youre not in the least bit interested in going to Times Square on New Years Eve. Your internal is permanently set to know when Alternate Side of the Street parking regulations are in effect. You know what a bodega is. You know how to fold the New York Times in half, vertically, so that you can read it on the subway or bus without knocking off other passengers hats. Someone bumps into you, and you check for your wallet. You dont even notice the nice lady walking down the road having a perfectly normal conversation with her self. You pay "only" $230 a month to park your car. You cringe at hearing people pronounce Houston St. like the city in Texas The presidential visit is a major traffic jam.not an honor. Film crews on your block annoy you, not excite you. (They take up all the parking spaces!) You can nap on the subway and never miss your stop. You look forward to riding the subway to read the next installment of "Marisol and Julio". The deli guy gives you a straw with any beverage you buy, even if it is beer. You know that the plural form of you is youse. Of course it is!

What is there to do in Cincinnati on New Years?

Answer: Cincinnatians are largely homebodies, and the best times to be had here for New Year's Eve are generally private parties at friends' houses. Having said that, though, there are some really unique things to do here that you might not think of: Ice Skating on Fountain Square Downtown. The new rink has cooling built into the base, so it's possible to skate in anything under 50 degrees outside. Bar-hopping in Mt Adams is fun, and there's literally partying in the streets that night. Parking is atrocious that night, and getting a cab is challenging. I recommend dropping off a car earlier in the day to get it parked on the street, and then taking a cab in when you're ready to start. Going earlier than 9pm makes the night way too long. The best thing to do, I think, is to go the all-in-one-building route by staying overnight at a downtown hotel (the Netherland Plaza is my favorite), booking a dinner reservation either at the hotel or somewhere within walking distance (the hotel can make the best recommendations), skating for a bit on fountain square, and then attending a late-night party at the hotel. This is a good night to stay off the roads because of the heavy traffic and the drunk drivers. The Millenium has a good all-inclusive package if there are still reservations available. Lately Ive been in love with New York City and its seemingly hyper aura (blame it on the Times Square ball drop last New Years Eve) and I am already having one of those "little town blues".Im thinking of moving in anytime in the future but of course,I want to hear something about the city and this time,I want it to be something negative.Of course NYC isnt too perfect.What are the flaws and down moments of living there?No need to tell me good things about NYC because as Ive said,Ive fallen in love with it already.What are the steps I can do to make myself ready on moving in to a sleepless NYC from a sleepy place like mine?

Public transportation + gridlock traffic = you can feel quite trapped. Imagine you're late. The subway is running late because a passenger got sick. You try to get a cab but of course it's a shift change and they're all off duty. You finally find one, but you can walk faster than they travel during rush hour. There is no possible way to get to work on time. It's dirty. Rats will cross your path on the sidewalk. Unless you can afford a really nice place (see first paragraph) - you will find a roach or two every month in your bathtub.

Answer: Folks begin arriving in the early afternoon on December 31. Some of the prime viewing spots will be filled by mid-afternoon. Be aware that you won't be able to return to "your spot" if you need to leave to eat, use a bathroom, or move for any other reason Hit the Bathroom First Port Authority bus terminal, while crowded, is a good place to stop before you begin your wait in Times Square. There are public bathrooms inside of the Port Authority, as well as places to buy food and drinks. The Port Authority Bus Terminal is located on 8th Avenue and 42nd Street. Prepare for the Long Wait Once you've staked out your spot in Times Square, be prepared to stick it out until midnight. It's a good idea to have a nice big lunch before settling in. Unless you want to lose your spot, this means being dressed for the weather, with extra layers to add as it gets later and colder. You should also be prepared with snacks, drinks (no alcoholic beverages are permitted), and diversions. If you arrive in Times Square at 4 p.m., there are still 8 long hours until the ball drops at midnight. Bags/backpacks are not allowed, so wearing a coat with plenty of pockets is a good idea. Is this breed a possible good fit?

Im thinking of getting an Australian Kelpie. Here is my current situation, and you tell me if you think the dog would make a good fit for this lifestyle: Im a college student. I have classes in the mornings/early afternoons, and work after that. Im home from 5pm onward and leave at about 8am in the mornings. I can take the dog with me on the two walks i take - 1hr at night and 30m-1hr in the morning. I can hire someone to come take him out during the day for me. I had a kelpie mix while in high school, and he was the best dog.
