How much do voice coaches make?

Im in college and Im wanting to study to become a voice coach. How much would I be expected to make on average? What kind of classes would I need? Other than music theory and other music-based classes... do I need education classes?
Answer: The training and education of vocal coaches varies widely. Some vocal coaches have extensive formal training, such as a bachelor of music, a master of music, a conservatory diploma, or degrees in related areas such as foreign languages or diplomas in human kinetics, posture techniques, or breathing methods. On the other hand, some vocal coaches may have little formal training, and so they rely on their extensive experience as a performer. While vocal coaches without formal training are mainly found in the popular music styles, they also exist in the Classical milieu. For example, a native German language speaker who moves to the US may begin providing German diction coaching to amateur vocal students, and over several decades, this vocal coach may develop a broad range of on-the-job experience in coaching German-language singing styles such as lieder and Wagnerian opera. The vocal coaching field is competitive, especially at the highest professional levels. Salaries vary greatly, as do the conditions of work. While a small number of top vocal coaches can command very high hourly or daily rates, most vocal coaches, like most other music and arts professionals, tend to have salaries which are below the average for other professions which require a similar amount of education and experience, such as economists or bank managers. The work conditions vary widely, from part-time or occasional freelance work for individual singers, opera companies, or record companies, to full-time contracts or multi-year jobs for universities (coaching vocal performance students and students in opera courses) or music theater companies.

applying j1 visa for USA , my nationality is Indian .currently i am pursuing my master of computer science in?

UK .previously i have been rejected 3 times in 2009 for student visa in India ,but i got visa to UK in January 2011 and am planning to go USA for visiting purpose in Easter holidays.am i eligible for getting US visa or NOT?what are the chances of me in getting visa and how long the US embassy will maintain it records?please provide detailed information as i am very much interested to visit USA.
Answer: Sounds more like you are coming to US to look for a job! First, you will need a visa to enter the US, even it really is for a short vacation over the Easter holidays. With your record of three visa rejections, that's unlikely. You definitely will not receive any J1 or other employment visa. Frankly, it looks like you are attempting "backdoor immigration" to the US, and that could well be the reason for multiple rejections. So with your record, you can forget getting visas for the US. BTW, jobhunting on a tourist/visitors visa is actually visa fraud. If you had a job interview you needed to attend in person, the company would have to produce the paperwork in support of your application for a business visa. If they ever hired you, you'd have to return to your own country while the employment visa application from the employer was processed, and you'd have to get the visa stamped in your passport in your own country prior to reentry to US. There's no jobs in the US anyway. Over 31 million Americans are currently looking for work. The total number of "employed" persons is back down to 1998 levels despite a huge increase in population. I worked last summer with a bunch of foreign students at a major US university, mostly finishing masters, mostly in high-tech fields (e.g. engineering, IT, computers), and NOT ONE had been able to obtain any job offers at all! And these are people in the US, getting US degrees! All had been actively jobhunting for at least a year. Don't bother looking for a job in the US. Highly unlikely. And even more unlikely you'd be able to get a visa.

If I get caught breaking US law, can I hide my US citizenship and get deported instead of going to US jail?

If my fingerprints are not in the system, and Ive got no id on my person, and I get caught breaking the US law, can I just claim to be an undocumented Mexican and be "deported" to Mexico instead of a US jail therby avoiding a US criminal record on my name and social security number? Its still a pain in the ass to get caught breaking the law, but if it has to happen, it seems like the most beneficial route to take is as an undocumented alien rather than a US citizen. Some of you are missing the point. I do not want to deny my citizenship. I want to hide it. I would still be a US citizen and reap all of the benefits which that entails. But, when it would be to my advantage to be a non citizen, I could gain even more benefits by dodging the bad parts of being a US citizen. Then I could return to the US when the coast is clear. Thus I could aquire the most personal gain for myself, and better my life the most possible. It is not really fair and honest within our system of citizenship, but heck, none of us have any respect for that crap system, RIGHT?
Answer: You probably could do that. I know a lot of foreign students in the US get credit cards max them out then go abroad and change their names. The US government really doesn't care about things like stopping crime. They might even like the idea of sending you abroad in order to save prison space and expenses. Right now, I'd say it's very possible to do what you are saying.

How can I become a lawyer and a journalist?

I go to a community college and I messed up really bad the first year. Now im trying to get my act together and I want to become a lawyer and a journalist...can anyone tell me step by step what I can do?
Answer: According to the US Dept of Labor ( http://www.bls.gov/oco ): Here's what it takes to be a lawyer: 1) The required college and law school education usually takes 7 years of full-time study after high school—4 years of undergraduate study, followed by 3 years of law school. Law school applicants must have a bachelor’s degree to qualify for admission. To meet the needs of students who can attend only part time, a number of law schools have night or part-time divisions, which usually require 4 years of study; about 1 in 10 graduates from ABA-approved schools attended part time. a) Although there is no recommended “prelaw” major, prospective lawyers should develop proficiency in writing and speaking, reading, researching, analyzing, and thinking logically—skills needed to succeed both in law school and in the profession. Regardless of major, a multidisciplinary background is recommended. Courses in English, foreign languages, public speaking, government, philosophy, history, economics, mathematics, and computer science, among others, are useful. Students interested in a particular aspect of law may find related courses helpful. For example, prospective patent lawyers need a strong background in engineering or science, and future tax lawyers must have extensive knowledge of accounting. b) Acceptance by most law schools depends on the applicant’s ability to demonstrate an aptitude for the study of law, usually through good undergraduate grades, the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), the quality of the applicant’s undergraduate school, any prior work experience, and sometimes, a personal interview. However, law schools vary in the weight they place on each of these and other factors. All law schools approved by the ABA require applicants to take the LSAT. Nearly all law schools require applicants to have certified transcripts sent to the Law School Data Assembly Service, which then submits the applicants’ LSAT scores and their standardized records of college grades to the law schools of their choice. Both this service and the LSAT are administered by the Law School Admission Council. Competition for admission to many law schools—especially the most prestigious ones—generally is intense, with the number of applicants greatly exceeding the number that can be admitted. During the first year or year and a half of law school, students usually study core courses, such as constitutional law, contracts, property law, torts, civil procedure, and legal writing. In the remaining time, they may elect specialized courses in fields such as tax, labor, or corporate law. Law students often acquire practical experience by participating in school-sponsored legal clinic activities; in the school’s moot court competitions, in which students conduct appellate arguments; in practice trials under the supervision of experienced lawyers and judges; and through research and writing on legal issues for the school’s law journal. c) A number of law schools have clinical programs in which students gain legal experience through practice trials and projects under the supervision of practicing lawyers and law school faculty. Law school clinical programs might include work in legal aid clinics, for example, or on the staff of legislative committees. Part-time or summer clerkships in law firms, government agencies, and corporate legal departments also provide valuable experience. Such training can lead directly to a job after graduation and can help students decide what kind of practice best suits them. Clerkships also may be an important source of financial aid. d)In 2004, law school graduates in 52 jurisdictions were required to pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), which tests their knowledge of the ABA codes on professional responsibility and judicial conduct. In some States, the MPRE may be taken during law school, usually after completing a course on legal ethics. e) Law school graduates receive the degree of juris doctor (J.D.) as the first professional degree. Advanced law degrees may be desirable for those planning to specialize, research, or teach. Some law students pursue joint degree programs, which usually require an additional semester or year of study. Joint degree programs are offered in a number of areas, including law and business administration or public administration. f) After graduation, lawyers must keep informed about legal and nonlegal developments that affect their practices. Currently, 40 States and jurisdictions mandate continuing legal education (CLE). Many law schools and State and local bar associations provide continuing education courses that help lawyers stay abreast of recent developments. Some States allow CLE credits to be obtained through participation in seminars on the Internet. To be a journalist: Most employers prefer individuals with a bachelor’s degree in journalism or mass communications, but some hire graduates with other majors. They look for experience at school newspapers or broadcasting stations, and internships with news organizations. Large-city newspapers and stations also may prefer candidates with a degree in a subject-matter specialty such as economics, political science, or business. Some large newspapers and broadcasters may hire only experienced reporters. About three-fourths of the courses in a typical curriculum are in liberal arts; the remaining courses are in journalism. Examples of journalism courses are introductory mass media, basic reporting and copy editing, history of journalism, and press law and ethics. Students planning a career in broadcasting take courses in radio and television news and production. Those planning newspaper or magazine careers usually specialize in news-editorial journalism. To create stories for online media, they need to learn to use computer software to combine online story text with audio and video elements and graphics. Some schools also offer a master’s or Ph.D. degree in journalism. Some graduate programs are intended primarily as preparation for news careers, while others prepare journalism teachers, researchers and theorists, and advertising and public relations workers. A graduate degree may help those looking to advance. Reporters typically need more than good word-processing skills. Computer graphics and desktop-publishing skills also are useful. Computer-assisted reporting involves the use of computers to analyze data in search of a story. This technique and the interpretation of the results require computer skills and familiarity with databases. Knowledge of news photography also is valuable for entry-level positions, which sometimes combine the responsibilities of a reporter with those of a camera operator or photographer. Employers report that practical experience is the most important part of education and training. Upon graduation many students already have gained much practical experience through part-time or summer jobs or through internships with news organizations. Most newspapers, magazines, and broadcast news organizations offer reporting and editing internships. Work on high school and college newspapers, at broadcasting stations, or on community papers or U.S. Armed Forces publications also provides practical training. In addition, journalism scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships awarded to college journalism students by universities, newspapers, foundations, and professional organizations are helpful. Experience as a stringer or freelancer—a part-time reporter who is paid only for stories printed—is advantageous. Reporters should be dedicated to providing accurate and impartial news. Accuracy is important, both to serve the public and because untrue or libelous statements can lead to lawsuits. A nose for news, persistence, initiative, poise, resourcefulness, a good memory, and physical stamina are important, as is the emotional stability to deal with pressing deadlines, irregular hours, and dangerous assignments. Broadcast reporters and news analysts must be comfortable on camera. All reporters must be at ease in unfamiliar places and with a variety of people. Positions involving on-air work require a pleasant voice and appearance. Most reporters start at small publications or broadcast stations as general assignment reporters or copy editors. They are usually assigned to cover court proceedings and civic and club meetings, summarize speeches, and write obituaries. With experience, they report more difficult assignments or specialize in a particular field. Large publications and stations hire few recent graduates; as a rule, they require new reporters to have several years of experience. Some news analysts and reporters can advance by moving to larger newspapers or stations. A few experienced reporters become columnists, correspondents, writers, announcers, or public relations specialists. Others become editors in print journalism or program managers in broadcast journalism, who supervise reporters. Some eventually become broadcasting or publishing industry managers. Good luck!

How many credits/classes do you have to take while in medical school per semester?

If I am a college student taking heavy science classes at 15 credits per semester, how many credits do you predict I will take once I get into medical school? Someone told me (who did not go to medical school) it is much more than 15 credits and you basically have to have no social life to keep up with it all. I hear you can take many classes pass/fail so you dont have to perfect all of those classes though in certain medical schools.
Answer: There is great variability in how schools determine the credits for each class. I have seen some schools allot 10 semester hours for Gross Anatomy, some only give it 8 and others 12. But on average, you can expect to carry somewhere between the mid-20's to mid-30's. Once you get out of the first two years of medical school (the Basic Sciences) and begin Clinical Rotations, the "load" is determined by the number of weeks of training. For example, the Core rotations are between 6 and 12 weeks. Elective rotations can be as few as 2-4 weeks. It's true that schools do vary in the way they record your grade, but the reality is that is only an internal policy. The National Board of Medical Examiners quality assures medical education in the US through the use of "Shelf Exams". These are standardized tests administered by every US medical school at the end of each course. The exams are scored by the NBME on the basis of percentage of correct answers (and there is no sliding scale!) The NBME reports the results back to each school and how the school chooses to record it is their decision. The allegation that medical students have no social life is a scare tactic. Most medical schools provide class for about 6 hours a day. The average medical student studies between 4 and 6 hours a day, depending on the subject material and their ability to grasp and retain the information. That leaves plenty of time for taking care of personal business and/or socializing. Of course, that changes pretty much around test dates! Some schools are very "kind" to their students and grade on sliding scales, allow students to take make-up tests, etc. That's fine and good as far as taking it easy on the students' psyche, but the medical school is not the final arbitrator in a medical student's "standing". Everybody, regardless if they are educated in a US school or a foreign school, must take and pass the US Medical License Examinations. For most students that involves Step 1 ( a killer of an exam that is all about the Basic Sciences) and then the two-part Step 2 exams which test Clinical Skills and Clinical Knowledge. Foreign trained students (non-English speaking) also have to take exams to test their English abilities. Most medical schools will not allow a student to proceed to Clinical Rotations unless they have achieved a passing score on the Step 1 exam. Some schools will limit your ability to retake the Step 1 (usually to two or three times). If you continue to fail, you're washed out of medical school. But then there are some schools that only require that you take the exam and whether you pass or not does not impede your progress through school. But the big kicker is this--your residency program will accept you based on your USMLE scores. Which means that even if you graduate medical school, yet score low on the USMLE, you may not get into ANY residency program. And I don't know of any state that will issue a permanent medical license to somebody who has not completed residency training.

Why dont we allow foreign doctors on H1 visas to practice in the USA?

Why not allow foreign doctors on H1 visas to practice in the USA? Its a myth that foreign doctors are substandard to American doctors. They are as goof and in some cases they are even better than American doctors and less greedy. We need to bring down the cost of healthcare by importing foreign doctors just the way we import engineers and scientists.
Answer: There are plenty of foreign medical schools that are accredited by the US medical associations to the same standards and no shortage of highly qualified doctors and prospective med students overseas. They already comprise a large and growing proportion of doctors, but the government could make it easier to them to emigrate. As difficult as it is to fix our education system's abysmal record on math and science, its pretty easy to just take the highly trained students of other countries and reap the economic benefit they will bring as trained grads after an Asian government has done all the work. Of course US doctors will complain, but only because they will face real competition and will have to lower their inflated salaries to remain competitive. Health care has been the fastest growing industry and also the greatest cost to society in recent years, while the number of doctors has remained relatively static (the immensely prohibitive cost of getting a medical education in the US is part of the problem).

Age You must present your birth certificate if you have it or can easily obtain it. If not, we can consider other documents, such as your passport or a document issued by DHS, to prove your age. Identity We can accept only certain documents as proof of identity. An acceptable document must be current (not expired) and show your name, identifying information and preferably a recent photograph. Social Security will ask to see your current U.S. immigration documents. Acceptable immigration documents include your: Form I-551 (includes machine-readable immigrant visa with your unexpired foreign passport); I-94 with your unexpired foreign passport; or Work permit card from DHS (I-766 or I-688B). First President to withdraw an existing coal permit that had been properly issued years ago. •First President to actively try to bankrupt an American industry (coal). •First President to fire an inspector general of Ameri-Corps for catching one of his friends in a corruption case. •First President to appoint 45 czars to replace elected officials in his office. •First President to surround himself with radical left wing anarchists. •First President to golf 73 separate times in his first two and a half years in office, 102 to date. Rethinking the Armory Show

In 1913 — a few months short of a century ago — you are in New York City, not yet the world cultural capital. It’s a seething, manic place, with a powerful but provincial population. Wall Street is challenging London’s dominance of the international stock market, and finishing touches are being put on the highest - Upcoming exhibitions at the New-York Historical Society and Montclair Art Museum will offer new interpretations on the impact that the purportedly shocking 1913 show of modern art at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York, which featured works by Matisse and Duchamp, had on the American art world. How would my savings get transferred?

if I moved from Canada to the United States. My current bank is not in the United States. So how would that work if I had a lot of money.
Answer: You have a few options... 1. Contact your Canadian bank, let them know you will be moving and that you would like to transfer money to a US bank once you get one. You go to the US, open a bank account, and then contact your bank in Canada with your US bank account number. They'll transfer the money to the account. 2. Depending upon the US city, your Canadian bank might have branches in the US. Visit one in the US, open a US acccount and you can make arrangements to transfer money fairly easily. Depending on your length of stay in the US, you can also set up a US bank account in Canada (before leaving) and access it from their US branches (with limited fees). 3. Get a certified check or bank draft from your Canadian account. Deposit it in your US account once you set it up. Most US banks will do this, although some may put a rather long hold on the check. If the amount is over $10,000 you must declare this at the border. 4. Traveler's cheques. Again, over $10,000 you need to declare it. Note that in order to open a US account, if you aren't a US citizen, you'll need your student visa or green card. Foreign transfers are recorded and accessible by the IRS, various law enforcement, and the INS. Make sure you have records of paying Canadian taxes on any amounts transfered from Canada in case the IRS asks.

how does the filtering of applications in universities like harvard, stanford, princeton take place?

i and my friend have registered for the SAT reasoning and the subjective test. as well as TOEFL.... i was told by a counselor in India that an 80 + % in the CBSE exams (CBSE is an Indian education board for schools) and a 2000+ in SAT wud giv us a chance of entering harvard or the others.. etc..... is it true? how exactly are the applications accepted?
Answer: Generally, to be competitive, you'd need a higher score than 2000+; probably more like 2100-2220+. BUT, for you as a foreign student, it might be OK to get just a 2000+ if you are at least getting a 700-800 in the math section (since you might have language trouble in the reading and writing sections), and you have a high TOEFL score to make up for lower SAT verbal/writing scores. Your high school grades and activities are still important, though. The applications are evaluated on the basis of each applicant's entire high school record (and activities at school and outside of school), essays, and recommendations. There is not one standard formula for accepting or filtering applications. In general, if you want to get into one of these schools, this is what you should do: 1. Get good grades. Straight A's are best. But a mix of mostly A's and a few B's is OK, especially if the B's are in tough AP/honors courses. So, yes, try to get straight A's, but if you get a B, don't kill yourself over it--just work harder. Try to stay in the top 10% of your high school class. 2. Take challenging classes. Honors, AP, etc. Don't take soo many at once that you overload yourself and get a C. But take as many as you can take with good grades. 3. Clubs/extracurriculars are important, but there is no "magic number" of activities that you need to do.The most important things are commitment (do the same activities for long periods of time) and leadership (being president, or treasurer, or committee chair...). And you should have at least 1 or 2 community service activities, but your other activities can be clubs, sports (especially varsity) or student council, etc. 4. Get as high scores on the SATs as you possibly can. Start studying a in your freshman or sophomore year, so you will be very well prepared to take the exam late in your junior year (or early in your senior year, but better to get it out of the way in junior year if you can). You'll need a few SAT II subject tests in addition to the SAT I. 5. Think about what teachers you might ask for recommendation letters, because you need good ones. Try to take more than one class with them, so that they get to know you well. Or the reverse: in your senior year, ask the teachers you've taken the most classes with (or done the best with) to recommend you. But if you start thinking about that now, you can perhaps plan accordingly. 6. And of course write a good essay that you have proofread and reviewed by others.
