Answer: Dems:
At this point Obama should be the Democratic nominee barring a small miracle. He might offer the VP to Hillary--mainly to mend whatever rift might have formed in the Democratic Party-- but I doubt she'd accept (though Barack might offer anyway just to appeal to her supporters.) Edwards didn't really help Kerry in '04 and I doubt he'll be asked again.
The Dems will probably go with a white governor from a swing state or southern state who plays well to conservative voters. Ted Strickland of Ohio might be a good bet.
GOP
McCain has more riding on his VP pick--due to McCain's age the Veep has a good chance of becoming President and therefore the VP is likely to come under extra scrutiny. McCain might go with Huckabee as a way of appealing to conservatives who are lukewarm at best towards him, while Giuliani's flameout in the primaries and his relative liberalism would probably keep him from being seriously considered. Paul wouldn't bring in many new voters for the GOP and he's fringey enough that he won't be seriously considered.
I would also bet that the GOP will go with a governor of a swing state--Charlie Crist of FL is a good bed.

Is there a civil war within the Republican Party?
They are trying to remove moderates like John McCain and Charlie Crist. Should John McCain become an independent?
Answer: No.
Crist is just pond scum, acting like a little kid.
The Republicans must be truer to conservatism if they want power again. They can't act like Democrat-lite.
Bush and McCain were moderates, and look where that got them.

Do you think Charlie Crist an Independent or a IINO? (Independent In Name Only)?
It seems Charlie Crist has been shunned by the GOP for being “too support of President Obama”, so he’s dropped the (R) from his campaign.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100429/ap_on_el_se/us_florida_senate
Do you think Charlie Crist has what it take to actually be an Independent, or do you think he is a IINO?
Answer: For now ... he’s switching from being an undependable conservative Republican who on carefully chosen occasions pretended to be a moderate Democrat - into being an undependable "Independent", happy to have a label that lets him swing both ways more comfortably now, in whatever directions that shifting political winds and poll numbers dictate. But he was right about Obama's stimulus package, and he was right about politics in D.C. becoming more important than a functioning Congress. First choice, Meek. Second choice, Crist. Way last choice, Rubio.

Are Republicans actually more beneficial or effective toward gay rights than Democrats?
Consider these things:
Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to public office in the USA - He was a Republican who had campaigned for Goldwater when he was first elected.
Ronald Reagan supported Gay Teachers being allowed to remain in the classroom when a majority of Democrats were against it.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mary Cheney were among the few politicians in the State of California to speak out against Proposition 8.
Among the few Republicans who were able to take seats in the Florida legislature were pro-gay Republicans like Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and the Charlie Crist-appointed Sheriff of Broward County, Al Lamberti.
More Conservative Republicans are becoming aware of Gay issues and how they might correspond with their own interests. Ron Paul said that “Clintons Don’t ask, Don’t tell fails because it doesn’t take into account heterosexual behavior that is disruptive to service and I have no interest in interfering with two individuals in a social, sexual or religious sense."
Dr. Paul also refuses to support any Federal legislation against gays... unlike Sarah Palin, who supports a Federal Ban on Gay Marriage which would interfere with her position on States Rights.
But the big question is... What have Democrats done lately for their heavily-pandered masses of gay voters?
Answer: Swatzennegger is married to Maria Shriver there is no way she is going to let him get away without doing something & Mary Cheney is gay. If you want the republicans to start taken credit for all they do for gays then you have helped give them a new idea. You must want to aggravate the people who have worked the hardest to get the least credit. I know my spiritual center has done so much for gay rights but they are liberals who are doing this & it does seen to be a slap in there face to keep insuating what you have been posting.

Has an independent candidate ever become governor of an American state?
Answer: Illinois, Maine, Oregon, Rhode Island and Texas are the only states to have elected formally independent candidates as governor: Illinois' first two governors, Shadrach Bond and Edward Coles; James B. Longley in 1974, Angus King in 1994 and 1998 from Maine; Lincoln Chafee in 2010 from Rhode Island; Julius Meier in 1930 from Oregon; and Sam Houston in 1859 from Texas. Lowell P. Weicker, Jr. is sometimes mentioned as an independent governor, though this is not technically correct; he ran as A Connecticut Party candidate (which gave him better ballot placement than an unaffiliated candidate would receive), defeating the Democratic and Republican party nominees. Another former governor who is sometimes mentioned as an independent is Jesse Ventura, who actually ran as a member of the Reform Party's Minnesota affiliate, which later disaffiliated from the party and reverted to their original name the Independence Party of Minnesota.
In 1971, State Senator Henry Howell of Virginia, a former Democrat, was elected lieutenant governor as an independent. Two years later, he campaigned for governor as an independent, losing the election by only 15,000 votes.
Recent polls predicting the gubernatorial election in Massachusetts shows an independent having at least 30% of the possible vote in November 2010, ahead of Either possible Republican candidate and tying with the Democratic Incumbent.
There were several unsuccessful independent gubernatorial candidates in 2006 who impacted their electoral races. In Maine, state legislator Barbara Merrill (formerly a Democrat) received 21% of the vote in Maine. In Texas, country music singer and mystery novelist Kinky Friedman received 12.43% of the vote, and State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn received 18.13%. Strayhorn and Friedman's presence in the race resulted in a splitting of the ballot four ways between themselves and the two major parties.
In 2010, Florida governor Charlie Crist left the Republican party and became Independent.

Virginian born Stewart Alexis Alexander is the perfect model of a concerned citizen. An average American turned political activist, the cleaning company owner and “automobile sales consultant” (as his filings for California’s 2006 Lieutenant Governor elections showed), is also the Chairperson for the Socialist Party of California as well as the Executive Director of the African American Civil Liberties Union.
Alexander, who once served as a reserve in US Air Force March Joint Air Reserve Base, will be participating in his fourth top-tier election following defeats in Los Angeles Mayoral (1989), California’s Lieutenant Governorship (2006), American Vice-President (2008) and California’s gubernatorial (2010) elections. His first brush with politics was back in a very non-Orwellian 1984, when he campaigned for the Democratic presidential nominee, Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Burck’s journey to fame began in 1997 when he won a radio contest in his hometown Cincinnati, with the prize being an appearance as an extra on the hit TV show, Baywatch. Despite his high hopes, the cameo lasted for all of two seconds. It appeared that the then 27-year old dream of a career in Hollywood was heading for a quick end. However, a concatenation of events that began from a suggestion of good friend and theatre agent Sid Craig, eventually resulted in the creation of The Naked Cowboy personae – a guitar totting, cowboy boots and hat wearing busker dressed in a Star-Spangled themed briefs.
And now, 14 years on, Burck is finally ready to take the next leap in his dream of becoming, in his own words, “the wealthiest person who has ever lived”. A tall order, you might say. But then again, we are talking about a man who reportedly sends a postcard monthly to everyone he has ever met in his life.

Charlie Crist became the 44th governor of Florida in January of 2007. He quickly established the Office of Open Government by Executive Order to make the government more accessible to the people. His main focus since taking office has been addressing the state’s high property taxes and insurance costs. Crist oversaw the largest tax cut in state history and passed Cover Florida Health Care plan to give affordable insurance to thousands of uninsured.
Crist attended Wake Forest University for two years. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and a law degree from Cumberland School of law in Alabama in 1981. Passing his bar exam after two previous attempts, Crist accepted a position as counsel to Minor League Baseball in St. Petersburg, Florida. Politics attracted him but after a failed attempt at the Senate in 1986 he joined his then brother-in-law’s private law practice. In 1988 he became an aid to Senate candidate and eventual winner Connie Mack and he himself won a Senate seat in 1992.

Becky Rusher is a non-political non-party person. She freely expresses her dislike of career politicians that have forgotten why they are where they are. They are there because they got people to believe in them.
While Becky Rusher is not known she does have strong feelings on the issues. Becky’s main thought for running for president is to get others to realize they do not have to follow along with a certain party. She believes everyone is their own person and has valid ideas and those ideas should be put out there in the world. Whether by blog, emails, or running for president of a country.

If Obama is so bad why couldnt the GOP have offered America a better choice than McCain/Palin ?
Harley ...Bush said Iraq had WMD so to even compare him to President Obama is ridicilous
Still Happy ...yeah, Palin was the final nail in the coffin
Answer: For me McCain wasn't the problem; Palin was.
I'm a life -long Democrat who doesn't like the rookie Obama and would have voted for McCain had he chosen a normal person like Charlie Crist as his VP.
I was pretty sure that McCain would die of natural causes during his first term of office and the possibility of an inexperienced radical right wing Christian lunatic becoming POTUS got me off the fence and into Obama's camp.I have no doubt that a lot of people voted for Obama for the same reason
Note to YA:
Since Obama is now the POTUS could your spell check finally recognize that the possessive form of his name is Obama's and not IBM's

What is your opinion on the governor of Florida,Charlie Crist?
He is not married , never has been , dont know much about him, so write some facts. Thanks.I did not vote for him, this time my vote went mostly to democrats.
Answer: He has served honorably in several different positions in the government. He served in the Florida Senate for 6 years, and was chairperson of the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee. He was Florida's last elected Commissioner of Education. He then became Florida's first elected Republican Attorney General. So I think his history and experience will make him a good governor. In my opinion his style of governing and politics will bear many similarities to Arnold's out in California. He is considered politically moderate, and flexible rather that rigid when it comes to his stances. More importantly, he won election rather handily as a Republican in a year(2006) that most Republicans did badly. As a Floridian, I personally think his attitude will be one of bipartisanship. And that will be good for Florida.

Governor? House? Rick Scott is very beatable now. Whatever Democrat gets in, they need to reverse those early voting laws. If they do, I see Democrats winning Florida in 2016.

Will the Redneck Riviera just accept that the Gulf will become a safe haven for rampant oil and gas drilling?
Just kissing the wildlife and beaches goodbye? After all many of the voters there have little love for environmentalists and wouldnt vote for a Democrat anyway!
Answer: No way. People here in north Florida are furious.
Democrats are just as much in the pocket of the big megacorps as the Republicans are, so very few of us see any hope in switching which party beats us on Wall Street's behalf.
However, independents are gaining strength rapidly. I'm not much of a Charlie Crist fan, but his prospects for the Senate election against the Republican teabagger and the "Who's he?" Democrat are excellent. And it definitely means something when a sitting governor, who as a prosecutor was known as "Chain Gang Charlie," is thought to be "too liberal" by a major party.
Ultimately, I think, the Gulf may very well be the start of a new left movement that will some day sweep the South, an old-fashioned radical left movement that fights against the corporations and their Democrats and Republicans.
Just wait until you see pickup trucks with rifle racks, and with red flags flying from the antennas!
"Redneck" is going to take on a whole new meaning.
I can't wait to hear a "good 'ol boy" talking contemptuously about "all those damn conservatives up North, like Obama and Palin."

Is Global Climate change a bipartisan issue?
I seriously dont think that Global Climate is a Bipartisan issue. This is a human issue that we cannot ignore. I know libertarians and radical democrats who can sit around the table and agree on Global Climate change. Can you convince me otherwise?
Answer: I think you mean to say that it IS a "bipartisan" and not a "partisan" issue, don' t you?
You mean to say that people in both major political parties can agree on how important it is? That makes it "bipartisan," and issue that can appeal to BOTH of the big parties.
Personally, I think you're more hopeful than I am. I think most conservative Republicans have been ignoring this or denying this for a long time, mostly because of the influence of the oil and coal companies on the Republican Party.
OTOH, Senator John McCain has been talking about global climate change for several years now. And now such GOP politicians as Gov. Arnold Schwarznegger of California, Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City all have taken up the cause as well.
I think the Democrats on the whole have been better on this issue than Republicans have -- but not all Democrats, unfortunately.
Senator Robert Byrd, from coal-rich West Virginia, is one Democrat who played a key role in keeping the US from signing the Kyoto Treaty in the 1990s. With his state's economy heavily dependent on coal, it's not clear whether Senator Byrd is now going to work for progress on tackling the climate issue - or whether he'll try to block it.
Representative John Dingell of Michigan, who has long been a power in the key House Commerce Committee, is another Democrat with ties to an industry that has a bad record on climate change.
Rep. Dingell basically represents the Detroit area, and over the years he's helped to keep the Detroit auto companies from having to face higher mileage standards for their cars, SUVS and light trucks.
Senator Barrack Obama, whom I favor for President, unfortunately comes from coal-rich Illinois. In the past, he's supported "coal liquefaction" as a way of turning coal into a replacement for oil and gasoline -- an idea that most scientists believe would make GW much, much worse.
So I hope Senator Obama, on this one issue, will hurry to change his mind.
I agree with your main point, though.
With the Arctic sea ice melting in the summers, with the Greenland glaciers starting to speed up on their paths to the ocean, and with "extreme weather events" such as big hurricanes, big droughts, unusually severe floods and big wildfires threatening many important agricultural areas worldwide -- this really has become an "human issue," and not one that should be ruled by partisan politics.
Republicans and Democrats, libertarians and believers in government regulation, people of all religions and political philosophies -- let's take action on this global threat before it's too late.
We can always find plenty of other things to fight about - but on this one, let's unite and solve the problem, soon.
