High-ranking Taliban fighters paid the militants a total of $2,000 to carry out the attack, Raufi said. The attackers came from Pakistan but were Afghan nationals, said Doud Doud, an Interior Ministry official. The attackers squirted the acid from water bottles onto three groups of students and teachers walking to school in Kandahar city on Nov. 12. Several girls suffered burns to the face and were hospitalized. One teenager couldnt open her eyes days after the attack, which sparked condemnations from around the world. Girls were banned from schools under the Taliban regime, the hard-line Islamists who ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001. Women were only allowed to leave the house wearing a body-hiding burqa and accompanied by a male family member. Arsonists have repeatedly attacked girls schools and gunmen killed two students walking outside a girls school in central Logar province last year. UNICEF says there were 236 school-related attacks in Afghanistan in 2007. They, and the Professional Soldiers opposed the War in Iraq because opening up a second front when our troops were so close to victory was stupid and self defeating. Suddenly capturing bin Laden stopped being a priority, our hopes of finishing off the Taliban melted a way and now we're stuck with TWO wars--one of which we actually one five years ago, (Iraq) and the other of which would have long since been over if we'd had the troops available to finish the job. Sundays attack brought the number of victims across the country, which has been blighted by drug-related violence since President Felipe Calderon launched a 2006 crackdown on the cartels, to at least 57 just in the past weekend. The attack began at around 1:30 am (0630 GMT) as the murder squad rolled up at the popular rental venue in the usually calm suburb of Torreon, said Fernando Olivas, a Coahuila state government official. "A heavily armed hit squad arrived and cried Kill them all! and they started shooting," a Coahuila police source told AFP, citing a witness. Most of those gunned down were in their 20s and 30s. Investigators found more than 200 shell casings, mostly from bullets fired by AK-47 automatic rifles, which are widely used by Mexican drug gangs. Adolph Ellis awakened and drove the prowler from his home with his shotgun. Depew examined the body of Margie Lee Winn. He said her heart and chest had been penetrated by numerous small pellets, apparently about .410. The right sleeve of her coat was powder burned. The post-mortem examination was performed at the Ray F. Allen Mortuary in Beaumont. he search for Winn's killer became one of the largest manhunts in the history of Riverside County, California. The sheriff's department requested three planes from the Hemet, California Aerial Squad. The planes crisscrossed the region in search of the fugitive. Mounted posses combed the wastelands and fringes of the nearby desert. Roadblocks were established within twenty minutes after the crime took place. Additional roadblocks were set up in Indio, California, Palm Springs Junction, Beaumont, Riverside, and Redlands. Dozens of hitchhikers and others were queried, but with one exception, no arrests were made by Sheriff's Captain McCracken. One suspect held at Beaumont was Tobe Beams, 34. He was a seaman cook from Pleasant View, Kentucky who was removed from a freight train at Beaumont. Beams attire was described as a sailor's blue coat and a gray hat with a dark band. He claimed he was just recently off a ship and had been robbed of his money and baggage. He said he boarded the train at Colton, California.Footprints in the soft ground linked the Ellis' home invader with Margie's slayer. Footprints in the mud plowed up by Sloan's car matched those around the Ellis farmhouse. An all points broadcast described the searched for man as a white male, 30-40 years old, 150 pounds, and 5'8" tall. He was presumed to be unshaven, with a narrow face. Is there a difference between explorers program and a police ride along?

Well, Im in college and thinking about if I should go into law enforcement. Honestly, I would love to get as many ride alongs as I could possibly get, because that line of work is very interesting to me. I have heard about the ride along thing, where a certain criminal justice class requires you to do them? Anyways, I dont exactly know what a explorers program is, are they both the same or what are the differences? And which one would be better?
Answer: Normally police explorers has a cut off age of 21. The police explorers program was designed to give high school kids the opportunity to see what a career in law enforcement would be like. The program is ran nationally by Learning for Life and is ran locally by the local (city) police dept with at least one police officer acting as an adviser. Each post is unique and the activities of each depend on their specific department’s policies and guidelines. Does anyone else have a problem with turning our schools into armed camps for our children to attend? What qualifications does a teacher have that would warrant them to carry loaded guns around our children.

In reality when an aggressor sees a "Gun Free Zone" sign he reads it as "Unarmed Victim Zone" and he knows that there will be no one who is capable of easily stopping him. Israel used to have a problem with terrorist attacks on schools, so they armed the teachers and after a few dead bad guys they didn't have a problem anymore. Now for those of you who will say "That won't work here." it has. Five years prior to the VA Tech shootings a gunman attacked the Appalachian School of Law and was stopped by two armed students before he could kill more than 3 people. In 1997 at the highschool in Pearl Mississippi the principle stopped a gunman with his personal firearm, however his response was delayed because he had to run over 1,000ft to retrieve it from his car due to the school's "Gun Free Zone" status, costing lives & injuries. Febuary 2007 at the Trolley Square Mall an off-duty police officer forced a gunman to retreat from the crowd by using his personal sidearm. In all 3 of these incidents lives were saved because lawabiding citizens exercised their Second Amendment right to carry a firearm and had the courage to use it when the need arose. Have you ever noticed that all of the "mass-shootings" take place in "Gun Free Zones", but not police stations or gun shows, Ever wonder why? It's because the shooter knows that if he attacks a police station or a gun show that in fairly short order he will have new, and likely fatal, holes in his anatomy. That would kind of put a crimp in his plans, just a bit. ;-) An active shooter, whether it be in a school, a mall, a college, wherever demands an imeadiate armed response to stop it, and every delay will cost lives. Now which senario would you rather see- - A shooter walking the halls unchecked while the police respond. or - A teacher shooting the gunman before he can do anymore damage. I'd prefer option #2. All this in less than a week, yet President Felipe Calderon believes Mexico is getting a bad rap and wants to hire a public relations firm to improve its image. He might want to start with convincing his own countrymen, who are frustrated by assurances that the drug war is going well. "No matter how much the authorities want us to believe that they are winning this fight, the reality and the perception is that, on the contrary, its a lost battle," said Miguel Jimenez, 21, a student in Morelia, the capital of Calderons drug-plagued home state of Michoacan. "Day after day, its demonstrated with the increasing violence." Calderon passionately defended his military-led offensive against cartels this week, pledging not to withdraw the thousands of soldiers and federal police battling gangs across the country. He acknowledged violence has surged — often claiming innocent lives — but insisted it was a war worth fighting and that things are going as planned. "The strategy is advancing in the necessary direction that was established from the start," Calderon wrote in a long essay posted on his offices website this week. "Some analysts say that it was a mistake to fight crime, that we should not have provoked them. I think this perspective is mistaken." Calderon said cartels are infiltrating every walk of Mexican life, from police and politics to businesses cowered by extortion demands. He insisted there is no choice but to fight them. If there is more violence, he said, it is because drug cartels are reeling and splintered. And his government is embarking on long-term solutions, including U.S.-backed training of thousands of police and prosecutors in modern investigative techniques. Some Mexicans agree. Improvised school shooting resolution plan?

Taken directly from one of my questions regarding the issue, out of inspiration from a very insightful answer: "If we make guns common, it’ll just be like anything else. Knives and guns are murderous; the former makes your dinner and the latter foils the criminal. The arms race is inevitable; we have to stay on the ball. We’ve the force with us, so the odds are always against them. Armed security and equipped police are integral. Everything else is useless if one can easily break in and open fire at will. Patrolling guards are vital to assist those in need, defend against crime on the premises, and respond in an emergency while prompt police backup neutralizes the threat completely. Given the risks we face, we need to have panic buttons and drills. Fires is rare, few injuries usually occur, it’s random, and response is effective; shootings are on the rise, casualties are certain, the shooter takes aim at us, and response is atrocious... We have so much for fire protection, but nothing to defend a shooter. Panic buttons are quite like fire alarms. The shooter has little time to inflict casualties with security at the area and equipped police arriving. Pipe bombs are usually unreliable and fail to detonate. If we have several guards in the classroom they will assist the teacher from resolving disputes to stopping fights to foiling an assault, giving the peace of mind that there’ll be no sudden moves. No more cabinets; the guards are all we need. With each one armed and ready for action, they will promptly handle any activity in question. The summary is only an example. I’m sorry that the first one is ridiculous, however the second one is valid. Less than 100 died in total, but in the Columbine had their propane bomb gone off that alone would total 488. Education is important, but much to little progress. Criminals are spawning at incredible rates and must be stopped... It helps to have “[t]eachers … motivated to become involved in their students lives”. Some teachers don’t care about the kids; the signs are there, they won’t give a damn to look. If we put this security into a city the crime rate will plummet. The costs are high, but the plan is not limited to shooters. Officers at the station around the block could now serve the surrounding area better to enhance the concept to serve and protect. Answer: The scenario of gunmen shooting students execution-style is so rare that it doesn't make sense to hire several armed guards per classroom. At least in my area, the vast majority of violent campus crimes are stabbings*, and the vast majority of said stabbings are gang-related. Rather than throw money at armed guards, perhaps a wiser investment could be made in programs that keep kids out of gangs. The problem with your "solution" is that it doesn't solve anything. If someone is deranged and wants to kill dozens of people, and there are armed guards at school, then they will come up with an alternate plan to, say, shoot at a mall or at a park or something.

Answer: The Beslan school hostage crisis (also referred to as the Beslan school siege or Beslan massacre)began when a group of armed terrorists, demanding an end to the Second Chechen War, took more than 1,100 people (including some 777 children) hostage on September 1, 2004, at School Number One (SNO) in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia-Alania, The initial attack took place on September 1, the traditional start of the Russian school year, referred to as "First September" or Day of Knowledge. On this day, the children, accompanied by their parents and other relatives, attend ceremonies hosted by their school. Because of the pupils and family members attending the Day of Knowledge festivities, the number of people in the schools was considerably higher than usual for a normal school day. At 09:10 local time, attackers wearing military camouflage and black balaclava masks, and in some cases also wearing explosive belts, arrived at SNO in a stolen police GAZ van and a GAZ-66 military truck. Kennedy assasination? Conspiracy or lone gunman?

Ive just watched a documentary about the Kennedy assasination, and some people think there may have been a second gunman on the grassy knoll. Ive seen the photo of the supposed second gunman, the guy in the cop uniform, but I still dont know what to think of it. What do you think happened? Was it a big scheme to kill Kennedy? If so, who were the conspirators? And why did they want him dead?
Answer: I've avoided any public answer to this question for many years now. But I have always had my own feelings about it. I was chairman of the 6th grade elementary school that I attended at the time of JFK's assassination. I still remember it as if it were yesterday. I remember the teachers and school staff weeping when the news was told to them. The school maintained two minutes of silence, and then we were dismissed early. I can still recall how my own suspicions about the assassination began to take root even at that early age. As I watched the events being re-broadcast on TV, the first thing that caught my attention was the Secret Service Agent driving the Presidents car put his brake on just before the fatal shot struck Kennedy. Another thing that threw up a red flag with me, was the fact that Lyndon B. Johnson, the Vice President, was from Texas. It was his "home" state. He would take Kennedy's place upon his death. The third thing that happened that convinced me even more that there was some sort of conspiracy going on, was seeing Lee Oswald on TV saying he was just a "patsy". (In those days that was a well known term that was used to describe what is today known as "a fall guy" or someone to take the blame) What convinced me even more was when Oswald was being led through the police garage on live TV and Jack Ruby (a known mob figure) shot him dead while he was surrounded with TV cameras, and law officers. (Jack Ruby's real name was Jacob Rubenstein) Then 4 or 5 years later Ruby himself while in prison, mysteriously contracted cancer and died while behind bars. Too many things were being held back from the public by our government. If everything was on the up and up, they would not have hidden so many facts. Then when JFK's brother Robert was assassinated in California, that convinced me completely. Now even his son John Jr. the little guy I saw standing in the street saluting his fathers casket as the funeral proceeded down Pennsylvania Ave., is dead. I believe that he too was a victim of the same plot. Jackie Kennedy, married an ugly old guy and fled the U.S. after the killing. She could have had anyone she wanted at the time, but she married Aristotle Onassis because he was filthy rich, and had his own army and owned a private Island. YES...... there was a conspiracy. Who , what and why we can only guess at for right now. It's true that Kennedy's father Joseph Sr. had links to Lucky Luciano and Myer Lansky back in the days of prohibition and bootlegging liquor. But how that crew could have changed the Kennedy motorcade route the morning of the assassination without the help of someone within the government is impossible. I do know that the mayor of Dallas at the time was the brother of a U.S. Army Intelligence General who JFK had removed from his job. The mayor of Dallas hated Kennedy and he had the power to change the motorcade route forcing it to come to nearly a complete stop as it made a left turn in front of the Texas Book warehouse. Question: If the route had been changed THAT morning, (which is now a well known fact) how would Lee Oswald (if he really was the shooter) have known to carry a rifle into the building with him, since he had already gone to work before the route was changed? Question: The major event that supposedly led police to suspect Oswald was the shooting of a Dallas Police officer named JD Tippit. Bullet casings (shells) were supposed to have been found at the scene of the killing that day after the Kennedy assassination. But Oswald carried a revolver NOT an automatic pistol that would eject empty cartridges. How does a revolver eject casings? Question: If it wasn't known by our own government who the shooter(s) were and who their target(s) were, then why when 2 days after the killing when Lyndon Johnson asked J. Edgar Hoover (Director of the F.B.I) if he were also a target, Hoover responded and said, "No." Kennedy was loved by many Americans and hated by many more. Not just Americans. His father Joseph Sr., while serving as U.S.Ambassador to Great Britain, told Winston Churchill that the Nazi's were going to defeat England in the beginning of WWII. This coupled with the fact that Kennedy was Irish Catholic (remember that England had been invaded several times by the Spanish backed by the Roman Catholic Church, in an attempt to conquer it and end Protestantism ie: the Spanish Armada in 1588, 1596 and again in 1598) and sympathized with the Irish cause of a free Republic, put the Kennedy family on England's get even list. When Kennedy flew to Berlin Germany during the start of the cold war and Soviet blockade, he said, "Ich bin ein Berliner." (I am a Berliner *German*) this was only 15 years after the end of WWII. Many former Nazi's still held government offices during that time. This one action put him on notice with both England and the newly formed country of Israel. (During the 1960 Presidential Election JFK was investigated by the FBI for any ties he might have had to the Nazi's in WWII. In 1980, Ronald Reagan was investigated by the FBI for ties to the mafia *Reagan's National Campaign Chairman was actor/singer Frank Sinatra who was the Godson of NY capo Joseph Bonanno*, both were found to be not "linked" according to the F.B.I.) Who did it? Not Oswald, at least not alone. Why did they? Most likely payback for something or fear of something else. Luciano, Lansky, Trafficanti, they all had interests in Cuba. They could have blamed Kennedy for not invading Cuba and killing Castro. The CIA tried to hire mob figures to assassinate Castro, why not assassinate the man they blamed for not stopping Castro? Just a small step to the next level of murder? Was there a conspiracy? You bet your bippy there was. Some member(s) of our own government were involved at some level, and it all centers around "money". (The realm of the CIA) To sum it all up....... The murder of JFK, RFK and John Jr. was/is a joining of forces not just here in the U.S. but with links to other countries/beliefs. The reasons for the killings may have been different, but the result was mutual. It was all orchestrated by people within the U.S. government.
