What can we do, as citizens, to stop future shootings?
Can we try to pass a bill to protect the future of the next generation?
There must be something we can do to stop shootings in America.
Help me here!
To think that the creator of the first gun, probably made it for gaming purposes. If he were here today, what would he think? "I made guns to easily shoot game (animals) not humans."
Answer: In the over all world, America has the best protection when it comes to guns, NRA. Many countries have nothing legally in check that stops them from putting automatic rifles into 8 yr old hands and teaching him how to pull the trigger.
As citizens, we can only try to work with the democratic red tape. Write and call your Congressmen and Senators about your issues. The more responses they get about an issue, the more they are swayed toward what the people want. They don't know which way to vote on a specific act if you don't tell them your personal opinion.
The shootings are tragic, but home bound, not something that is coming from outside the country. Perhaps, setting up a program for the children, "Against Fire arms", that could be taught in churches and/ or schools. But good luck in getting that passed in the Midwest...the hunting enthusiasts of the continental states.

What Do You Think of the NRAs Response?
In response to the Newtown tragedy, the NRA s Wayne LaPierre has called for armed guards in schools rather than any tighter gun laws . What do you think? Good idea? But who are going to pay for that cost? Tax money? Wait. But are you willing to pay more in taxes? How about higher taxes for those making more than $400,000 a year?

NRA Press Conference Question?
Since Republicans have allowed hundreds of thousands of cops to lose their jobs by blocking every jobs bill, and every bit of spending they could regardless of who it hurts...you think they will be willing to spend money on law enforcement and security again...now that the NRA is calling for armed guards at every single school? Or will the private sector step up and provide all that security?

How do you feel about gun control?
As in laws which govern firearms ownership?
What would you change about gun laws?
Personally I say let people have any gun they want. Even full autos. Draw the line at explosives. Explosives are not defensive weapons. Automatic weapons ARE.
If people are so afraid and freak out that they will get shot, then they should stay home.
Answer: @ mr.danger. Then it makes my heart glow with gladness mr. danger, that you will never be happy. There is no one I would wish unhappiness on more than you.
@ justjose. Why only high school children? I think children should be taught firearm safety from the 1st grade through the 12th grade, and there should be extensive education about the laws (in local jurisdictions & elsewhere & how they differ) regarding firearms from 6th grade up. But the cry bay bed wetting liberals will not allow children to learn firearm safety, they even fight the NRA's Eddy Eagle gun safety program, being taught in school. They think the more children that do not learn about firearm safety the more children will be killed accidentally, and that will give them more fuel for their anti-gun attacks.
Do you also believe that there should be no allowable excuses for Human malfunctions" that result in unjustified injury or death to another of other things that kill people, either from direct handling or allowing anybody else to mishandle it? If you feel that way then you should also include automobiles, right?
Do you also believe that everybody should be issued a certification upon completion of (years) of training that states that they are fully qualified to buy, to own, to sell and to drive and to use responsibly, the automobiles of their choice, since automobile kills thousands more people each year than firearms?
Wouldn't it just be a great waste of tax money to "registered" people that never plan on owning a firearm in their life, (whether or not they actually choose to exercise that Right)? But tell us one thing that registering people would do to reduce crime, you are aware that 80 million law abiding firearm owners didn't kill anyone yesterday, didn't you?
You say "That, in my book, is responsible "bearing of arms"/gun-ownership.", I say that is the thinking of a typical Second Amendment hating anti-rights liberal. Oh your scheme of thing sis anything but draconian, it is right out of the modern day gun haters hand book.
No, we do not have to have every excuse within imagining, we only need the important one, it is called the Constitution, have you ever heard of it?????
So you would be fearful of their safe weapons-handling, yes that sounds like an uneducated gun hater to me. Do you realize that in 2009 their were only 800 accidental firearm deaths in the US, while we had over 42,000 accidental automobile deaths in the US in 2009??? No, I am sure you know nothing about that, you spend to much of your time crying about firearm owners, to have learned something like that.
Now, saying that was worth a lot more than 2 points to me.

Theyre NOT advocating that we arm teachers with guns............
but they are calling for: Armed security officers to be placed in every school.
Now THAT DOES make SENSE. Even those of us who are pro-gun-control are in favor of POLICE and LAW ENFORCEMENT having guns.
Armed security - sensible solution.

How do I spread the word about the consequences of gun control?
In my last question, I got a lot of good feedback but a lot of it was facts. I know the facts. I want to get some ideas on how I can spread the facts to a larger audience. The NRA and conservative talk radio programs are good but theyre preaching to the choir. Most everybody who read their articles and listen to them already agree with them. How do you spread the word to the people who are undecided or who are for gun control?
Answer: Try to explain it like a story.
Example: Your in a school and a deranged man crashes through the door. Kids scatter and hide behind their desks and the teacher locks the door.
Now would you like that teacher to have a cell phone in her purse, which is locked in her desk?
Or would you rather her have a carry permitted gun locked in her desk.
Quick now the kids are screaming and the madman is trying to break down the door?
Do you want that teacher to be huddled next you your kids or standing in the door way ready to shoot the SOB before he kills your child?
Example: You are a law enforcement officer. You are off-duty. You take you wife to a nice restaurant for a lovely dinner. You see a sign on the door that says" No GunsAllowed even with permit". Sodo you leave you gun locked in your trunk? Do you carry it in? If you leave it in the car, and a gunmen comes in to rob the resturant, do you act? Do you sit back and get a description? You as a member of the local police so you watch for an opening, but remember your gun is in the truck! Oh No. So the guy robs everyone and shoots the owner!
When the robber leaves, you id yourself and call it in, one of the patronsgrabbs you by the arm and says.........
Choice #1 - I'm sure glad you did not have you GUN....... Choice #2 - Why did you not protect us? Where's your GUN? We pay your salary to protect us?
Which would you do?
That's just a few examples! But remember, what you are trying to do with some people is like teaching pig to sing. It's a waste of time & annoys the pig!
Good Luck and Keep up the fight!
Gun Control = Hitting your target

Is this the answer to gun control by the NRA?
http://news.msn.com/us/nra-calls-for-armed-security-at-american-schools
Answer: "NRA calls for armed security at American schools."
No, it will promote more violence. The NRA response is to have society become increasingly dysfunctional!
Notice how they took no questions at their press conference. Would not discuss the issue of background checks at all gun shows, large capacity ammo clips or assault type rifles.

Does the NRA honestly think the best response to sandy hook is to have more guns in schools?
The NRA has just launched a national school protection program that introduces armed professionals into schools across America.
It really does make you wonder about the sanity of our society when the answer to lots of kids getting killed by guns in a school is to make sure that more guns are in every school. Im sure everyone can see the pure insanity of this totally warped and backward solution - this is an example of how human intelligence is flawed - its an example of the contractions that appear when a society is so blindly focused on order out of chaos.
Believe it or not but I think everyone should have a right to bare arms as this is fundamental to everyones freedoms in a society that functions through the threat of violence. (This is the definition of a capitalist society) When a government is heavily armed, its citizens must also have this right. In fact, it shouldnt even be a so called right because in truth, its not an issue the government should have any say in.
But, even with this pro-gun opinion, I still see the insanity of the NRA solution to the Sandy Hook shooting.
space999: Then your lucky at the moment but your time will come. You wanna hope there are other people left to fight your corner with you when its your turn. The ONLY way you can ensure this is if YOU stand up and support the people who are being threatened by the government now. The nature of a capitalist society is a society that functions through the CONSTANT threat of violence and the politics of fear and propaganda. The only destiny for such a society is tyranny.

How do the Presidential hopefuls view guns and gun control?
Obama is clearly against guns and would like to see them all banned. But what about those who are planning on running against him: Rick Perry, Michele Bachman, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, etc.?
I really want a President who isnt going to try to take away personal defense.
Answer: Michelle Bachman:
The Second Amendment states that the people’s right to keep and bear arms may not be infringed, and I believe that citizens who are in compliance with the law should not have that guaranteed right taken away. I am a member of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus which is a bipartisan group of nearly 300 U.S. Representatives and Senators committed to fish and wildlife conservation and preserving opportunities to hunt, fish and trap.”
Bachmann’s official website
Bachmann record extends to her support of numerous anti-gun control legislations, which includes:
• S.1001: A bill to restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia
(Mar 27, 2007: Co-sponsored by Bachmann. The bill was designed to overturn the gun registration & trigger lock law in Washington)
• H.R. 197: National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009
(Jan 6, 2009; Bachmann signed)
• S. 845: Respecting States Rights and Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009
(April 21, 2009; Signed)
• H.R. 126: Fairness in Firearm Testing Act
(Jan 5, 2011; Co-Sponsored)
Rick Perry:
Perry is an advocate of an individual’s right to bear arms.
“… proud to welcome all the men and women who have led the fight to protect the Second Amendment for every American… As a gun owner and avid hunter, I appreciate the work the NRA does day in and day out to protect our right to bear arms… Today as we celebrate the victories of the past 25 years, I can’t help but note how the public dialogue has changed when it comes to gun control. You don’t hear as many politicians making ridiculous claims about guns causing crimes these days and the reason for that is simple. Responsible gun owners like those in this room are not a threat to society, but a deterrent to crime. You have invested a vast amount of time and energy into educating the American people and the American people in turn have sent a loud and clear message to their elected leaders: the Second Amendment is not a loophole, so stop trying to close it!
April 12, 2005, Perry speaking at the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting, Houston
Legislation
Perry is against any form of gun control, and believes the emphasis should instead be placed on education of the public on the reality of gun use and legislations.
… That’s why as governor, I have been proud to sign many pieces of legislation supported by the state affiliate of the NRA. We have protected Texas shooting ranges from junk lawsuits that tried to shut them down for making too much noise. We passed a law that allowed Texans to possess a handgun in a recreational vehicle. And because the NRA has done such a tremendous job promoting safety with the Eddie Eagle Gun Safe program, I signed a law that requires visiting resource officers in public elementary schools to offer to teach the program at least once a year. We have also worked hard to strengthen our right to carry law because it is a good law that has made our people safer… In Texas, we believe that people should have the right to protect themselves whether they have called Texas home for years or are just visiting for a few days. In the past year alone, Texas has more than doubled the number of reciprocity agreements with other states that allow citizens from other states to legally carry a concealed weapon here in Texas as well as allowing Texans to carry away from home. I’m committed to ensuring we have as many concealed handgun reciprocity agreements as possible with other states. So far we have 18…”
April 12, 2005, Perry speaking at the National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting, Houston
Mitt Romney:
In favor.
"Let me speak very directly and candidly about where I stand. I support the Second Amendment as one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American. It's essential to our functioning as a free society, as are all the liberties enumerated in the Bill of Rights..."
Sep 21, 2007, in a taped message to the NRA's Celebration of American Values
Legislations
After throwing his support behind several gun control laws at the early stage of his political career, most notably, the Brady Act, Romney has reevaluated his position is now opposed to any further gun control legislations
I believe that Romney chases what ever position he thinks will get him elected. MA has some of the most restrictive gun laws of any state.
I tend to look more at what a candidate does than what they say. So look carefuly at past records for those that have them. I am a little leery of canidates whos claim to 2nd Amendment support is based on thier hunting experice since that has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment.

The NRA, which to my understanding has defended a strict reading of the Second Amendment on the grounds that the average citizen needs to be armed against potential government tyranny, is now calling for armed policemen to be stationed in every American high school & elementary school.

Can the NRA call for armed cop in every US school defend us from Government "Tyranny" ?
For at least 20 years now, the NRA has been calling for a strong interpretation of the Second Amendment -- for every Americans right to own guns -- as a potential defense against State Tyranny.
Do you think the NRAs call for an armed policeman in every school -- as a defense against future Lanza-style shootings -- would actually help to fight against State Tyranny?
Or is it giving in the public clamor for safety, even at the cost of liberty?
